I'm a dorky geek. I have the love of Star Wars and other dorky things to a insane degree... and I'm a computer person/prgorammer/gamer, aka Geek.

Hey man. Where's my credit? That took us forty minutes to classify.

I gave nobody credit! I just wrote out our definitions!

Hey, do you have the paper that had dweeb, spaz, etc defined? Or do I have it? Or is it gone? Or did it never exist? Or did we only ever make a tree graph showing the branching?

WHAT AM I GOING TO DO NOW?!!

Use mine and CONDRADS far superior definitions?

I propose that we create some sort of system of rating Geek/Nerd and just combine the two words to mean the same thing, as long as they are followed by a level. Yes...it would be the ultimate nerdy thing to do...well...right after saying "Whats up my nerd?!" to all your friends as a greeting...

Well, our system is a lot like that anyway. There is much crossover.

It's all a matter of which of the three major catagories you fit into most really.

    -P!-

Geeks are socially inept because they concentrate too much on things like Star Wars, games and TV shows etc. Nerds are socially inept because the concentrate too much on academics. Dorks don't really concentrate on anything, but still lack any sort of social skills.

I gotta agree with DarthTunick... its all semantics. The only reason to bother differentiating is to alleviate insecurity.

I had it at some point. I don't know what happened to it. I remember some other specifics. The obvious ones: Geek=Star Wars, nerd=Star Trek. Let's see, I believe it was Dorks who played warhammer and the like. Dingus was the absolute bottom of the barrel, the lowest form of human life. Dweebs usually had asthma...Man, I wish I still had it. That thing was a work of art.

I think my definitions are pretty much the same as everyone else's here. Though I just use "dork" to refer to any of it. Geeks and nerds are both of the dork family, just different types. They're both obsessed, one with sci-fi/fantasy stuff, the other academics. Neither is totally stupid.

The spaz is like the the dork's completely inept/clumsy/not-so-bright cousin. The dweeb is the same as a spaz but they also have really poor hygiene. They're those types you see with dirty hair, wiping their noses on their sleeves.

Okay, I made most of that up while typing, but anyways... :p

    Dorks are the worst.

Dorks are geeks that are dumb nerds.

Nerds- The really annoying, underfed, pasty white 13 year olds who do nothing but electronics and are really reclusive and annoying.

Geeks- Interested in SciFi-Fantasy, some other stuff, have somewhat of a better social life- among other geeks.

Dorks- Stupid people. Or Geek/Nerd wannabees.

    Here's how I see it:

Dork: The guy who just doesn't get it. The one who thinks people are laughing with him when they're really laughing at him. The one who tries so hard to fit in that he'll never fit in because he tries so hard. Tries to get hots chicks but fails, but they still think he's cute in a puppy-dog kind of way.

    Example: Toad from American Grafitti.

Nerd: The guy with the glasses & pocket protector. Likes math. Likely won't get chicks.

Example: Nick Burns, your company's computer guy.

However, I think "nerd" is the most subjective and crosses over with "geek" a lot.

Geek: The computer savvy guy who can hang with the nerds or the in-crown. He's totally self-geek-aware and is fine with it, as are his social friends. Has a high self-esteem that borders on ego, but he often just keeps it to himself instead of being a jerk. He has no problem going against the grain and being different, like disliking sports. He's often very passionate about certain things (often sci-fi). He's the guy the dorks try to hang around. He's often as smart as the nerds, though sometimes in different ways, but he's usually a level above the "in-crowd". Often also qualifies as a "slacker". Occasionally, the chicks go for him. He is teh l33t.

Example: Me. (Athough that's being somewhat generous with the chicks thing.)

The common thread between all three? 9 out of 10 love Linkin Park. Some religiously, some just on the side. But in the end, it doesn't even matter.

I think I disagree with you guys quite a bit. Although dorks are definitely the worst, geeks are next worst. Geeks, to me, are the ones pushing up their glasses further up on their nose often as they hold up their index finger and tell us the odds...

Nerds are the best. I have been called "nerd" in many different ways, and I don't have the "look" of what most of you call nerds. :p

Nerds do NOT =trekkies. No. Bad. Bad!

And finally, I don't like Linkin Park! And neither do most of my nerdy friends.

Me = Geek. I can say this because I most definitely have a self depredating sense of humor. Cause I suck.

    You = Nerd though. [face_mischief] :p

    You = Nerd though.

Incorrect. As we all know nerds never have had sex, and I have. I even have a five year old son to prove it. I won't comment on if you are a nerd or not.... :D  :p ;)

    Oh ho ho ho

Now you insult the status of my virginity. That would be cunning if not for one fact. I don't care.

Oh, and Nerds can have sex. They'd just think they pleased their partner even if they failed miserably though.

I wanted to ask this very question [face_frustrated]

But the smiley face_nerd :-B is aptly named!

Geeks are those enthusiastic guys who have fun with whatever they geek about - be it Star Wars, comics or whatever

however, I still think 95% of trekkies are total nerds. Doesn't mean that 95% of nerds are total trekkies, though. But Nerds are the annoying know-it-alls you can spot from 10 miles away

I'm not sure about Dorks, but I like most of the definitions given in this thread.

Me, I'm definitely a slightly dorky Geek.

Twi'lek is right. A lot of Trekkies happen to be Nerds, but not all. They'll get into insane arguments over the superiority of this or that ship, and expect you to know exactly what they are talking about.

However, not all Trekkies are Nerds, and not all Nerds are Trekkies.

Omega: Well, you like to act reeeeally nerdy when it comes to Gundam and one or two other things. So you are on the line at best. But you have enough of a self depredating sense of humor to be a geeky. :p

You know I was afraid you were going to call me a dork as you do that all the time ;)

Anyway you're definitly geek although sometimes I feel you're a dork but that might be the nerd in me :p

Trell - nah, I was not trying to insult you specifically. Ever see Revenge of the Nerds? there was an early joke about that.
