So, apparently, one of the things about the new 4K version of TMP is that they redid the color grading because the original film rushed not only the editing, but also the color grading- the latter of which was done in only 4 days. And, while improved for the 2001 version, they've been able to implement HDR and other features to make the colors less muted as the original film was graded toards the blue side of the spectrum.

While I've only seen a couple comparisons, I'll miss the blue a little bit (the blue grey tinge to model effects work in the 70's/80's has always been an endearing quality to me), I suppose it offsets the blue being added to the color grading of Hoth for ESB:SE and beyond in the great scheme of things (though Hoth is a greater struggle- I like to see it as it was originally, yet, again, I'm a sucker for blue light. Especially for frozen environments. I blame James Cameron).

(he's probobly playing Altan, but in that regard could'nt Denise play Sela?)

Denise could play a Tasha Yar from an alternate dimension where Denise didn't call it quits after just one season

DS9 needs more love. Not sure any kind of reunion or spin off would be the same without René Auberjonois or Aaron Eisenberg though.

The important question is, how many people will they gleefully murder?

I need to hear each and every one of them say the F-Word at least ten times per episode.

Nah, I'll just settle for Wesley telling Picard to STFU even once.

We'll come full circle when Captain Wesley Crusher of the USS Enterprise-F yells "shut up, Picard!" and proclaims "old men are not allowed the the bridge!!"

Worf had spent extended periods of time pulling active combat patrols on Klingon warships, F-bombs are noob level swearing.

I'm surprised they got Dorn back without promising him a Captain Word series. Or maybe they did and that's where the Picard crew will go after. While it's great to see the TNG crew reunited I do wonder what this means for the other cast members on Picard. Or maybe that is season 2, everyone died except Jean-Luc and he has to find his buddies. Also possible.

Something I just picked up on (I never noticed it before becuase of the angles the ships were shot at in the show and how few times I've seen pictures of the actual model); the Vulcan "Apollo-class" ships used by the Romulans in their attempted invasion in Reunification have the same "hoop and stick, no necelles" design of later Vulcan ships from ENT onwards.

On a side not, about the name, is it possible that Apollo's species (let's just call them the Olympians) visited Vulcan as well and thus Apollo is a Vulcan deity as well as a Human one? It might explain...
    • The name of Vulcan (it's named after Hephaestus, whose Roman equiviliant was Vulcan)
    • The Romanesque culture and astetic of the Romulans.
Part of me would'nt be suprisised, given how uptight Worf is, that he would be the one character who would'nt be swearing:p

Also of interest in the design- not only does it feature a "ring" instead of nacelles, but also evokes the hard angles of the long-range shuttle from TMP, which was intended to be a Federation/Vulcan hybrid design (thus the nacelles).

It would have been interesting if the newest re-release of TMP had replaced that with a CGI ship that had the same design save for that it's red and the pylons connect to a surrounding hoop rather then to necelles.

(and also replaced the picture of the XCV-330 with that of the NX-01:p)
