That would be quite clever. Most of the time it's nothing so artful, tends to be a "you are leaving the game area, turn back" message.

Between this and AC shadows Ubisoft getting their money out of me this year!

Unfortunately I’ll be buying the ultimate edition for both games.

Assassin's Creed is their big money maker. So nothing will change about how they do it with that franchise.

The new outrage over UbiSoft's pricing structure is weird as it's far from unique and been used for about a decade.

As such, it is incredibly likely that all the additional pieces of the deluxe editions will become available for individual purchase on launch day or just after.

It not being unique doesn't make the outrage unjustified.

It's a social media whipped up outrage over pricing structures used across the entire industry for the last decade. There's plenty of reason to slate UbiSoft's execs but this one is pretty weak.

Personally? The pricing on the deluxe / ultimate editions is absurd but I've also seen people online saying they will buy them, thus companies will keep doing them. Every AAA game has at least a deluxe edition, often bundling cosmetics for the price boost.

What gets forgotten is, save for Nintendo, games can depreciate fast, especially UbiSoft. So, if RRP £70 is a huge issue, wait it out until it's on sale, which will be anywhere between 3-9 months later. The pieces "exclusive" to the more expensive editions? Will be available for separate purchase after launch day, they'll go on sale too. You want to pull the teeth out of it? It's easy to do.

Pricing controversies be damned, I'm looking forward to this one.

How about some speculation on which legacy/multimedia characters we might be seeing?

    Confirmed:
"Captain Solo, and he's still encased in carbonite." (First story trailer)
Lando (seen in the Summer Games Fest teaser)
    Jabba (first story trailer)
Bib Fortuna (Summer Games Fest teaser)
Salacious Crumb (Summer Games fest teaser)
Qi'ra (I'm not sure if that's her in the red hood, but the devs said she is in it)

I'll get the ball rolling about characters we could see and how likely they are to show up. I'll put it in whitespace just to be on the safe side. Let me know your two cents on the below:
Dr. Aphra: I'm not sure how likely this is, but she is alive during this time period and her interactions with Kay could be really fun.

    Darth Vader
: Possible, as he certainly has an interest in what's going on in the Underworld in this time period. But I've also noticed that rebooted Canon tends to use him similar to how the IDW Transformers comics used Megatron: Only appearing when he needs to appear, and if you're not one of the universe's established heavyweights, then he's an unstoppable force of nature. Kay isn't Force-sensitive and she appears to have DJ's "Live free, don't join" attitude toward the Rebellion, so Vader would have little interest in pursuing her. If we do see him, it would probably be something along the lines of say, an Imperial High Command shindig that Kay eavesdrops on while infiltrating the base. (This is an Ubisoft game and they love their eavesdropping missions).

Emperor Palpatine: He's got an Empire to micromanage, so he'd be too busy to get his hands dirty here. That said, a Holonet propaganda vid might not be beyond the realm of possibility.

Boba Fett: A Fett cameo would probably be more likely than a Vader or Palpatine cameo, as it's quite unlikely that Vail will be the only bounty hunter pursuing Kay. It would probably depend on whether their guest star budget could afford Temuera Morrison (and if he's even available if it is).

Triple-Zero: The trailer shows a mechanic reactivating a black protocol droid. It could be him.

Moff Gideon: This would be totally out of left field. Then again, we've seen left field cameos before. There is a bit of curiosity of what Gideon was doing during this time (if the Rebellion believes him dead, then it's feasible that he could be hiding in the Outer Rim rebuilding his power base), and if they can't afford Giancarlo Esposito, then Dave Fennoy could probably reproduce the voice.

Greef Karga: Bounty hunters figure in this story and he's their de facto union boss. That said, I highly doubt it. Carl Weathers passed away fairly recently, and it's too soon to hear Greef voiced by another actor.

A recanonized Prince Xizor: There has been various telltale hints that Xizor does exist in the current Canon. But it's quite unlikely they would reintroduce him for a quick cameo in a video game. If one remembers the fanfare when they brought Thrawn back, reintroducing Xizor would probably have the same amount of fanfare.

Sorc Tormo: According to a few guides for The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, the Haxion Brood are still around after the Battle of Endor. I think there's a good chance of the Haxion Brood figuring into the plot of this game in some capacity, but Sorc himself, not so much. No one knows what is planned for him in Star Wars Jedi 3 - for all we know, the writers might intend for Cal Kestis to kill him there, so I can't see the Outlaws writers painting the Star Wars Jedi devs into a corner by establishing that Sorc is still alive in 3 ABY no matter what.

Bossk: This actually might be more likely than Boba Fett. He hasn't gotten as much face time as Fett, so there's a little more wiggle room.

Cad Bane: We know he's still alive during this timeline. AFAIK, he's never been in a Star Wars game before so it could be a fun boss fight. I'm not sure if Kay is anywhere near his weight class though, the Bad Batch needed Fennic Shand's help to fight him off.

IG Assassin Droid: Whether it's IG-88, IG-11, or a new model created specifically for the game, I think there's a fairly decent chance of this. It would make a fun boss battle, and a nice shoutout to the N64 Shadows of the Empire game where IG-88 was a boss.

Any or all of these characters could show up, but several of them - Vader, Aphra, and Bossk, for example - are pretty busy during this time period. Their role in the game may largely depend on the degree to which the story crosses paths with the events of the WotBH / Crimson Reign / Hidden Empire / Dark Droids arcs, which is mostly an unknown at the moment.

My left-field idea on who might show up in the game is Chanath Cha and the Orphans. I could absolutely see them running into Kay while on some mission or another for Qi'ra, or hiring her for their own ends.

Kay Vess for all intents and purposes is Aphra so I find it highly doubtful they would bring a character in that looks very similar to Kay who also leads a similar life.

Also doubt the game will get too much into what went on in the comics during this time. At most the comic material will probably just be in the background.

Well, we already know there was some level of communication between Charles Soule and the Outlaws creative team, so the likelihood of some reference to the comics within the game is high - how much each story actually overlaps the other is what we have yet to determine. Could be a little, could be a lot, and there is precedent for a lot - Battlefront II built its entire storyline around continuity established in the Aftermath trilogy and Shattered Empire, to the point where a scene from Shattered Empire ended up as a level in the game. So I think it could go either way. One thing's for sure, though - the more they pull in cameos from movie characters and others active during the timeframe, the more they'll have no choice but to acknowledge the greater continuity.

Hmmm...thinking about it though, that same comic introduced Zarek Besh, the primary antagonists in this game, in a similarly casual manner as it recanonized Xizor. Since that did feel a bit low key for bringing back such a big name, it makes me wonder if that is not coincidental.

Now I do agree I don't think he would only be back for a quick cameo, and the Black Sun are almost conspicuous in their absence among the big syndicates you can work for and against. So I think if Xizor is back, it as some big twist antagonists - like, the big heist to take down Zarek Besh actually turns out to be something that happens early or midway through the game and then you get another antagonist.

Admittedly, I am thinking the same thing about the mysterious imperial director with a lot of underworld contacts and some vague plan also from the same comic and there likely aren't going to be two twist villains...but I wouldn't be surprised if we got one or the other.

Well, Lando is also pretty busy in this period and we know he is making an appearance.

Actually a great comment about that in a reddit thread:
"Between escaping Bespin, the war of the bounty hunters, the ascent and fall of Crimson Dawn, that one week all the droids in the galaxy went insane, and being put on trial for treason, Its nice to see Lando taking some time to play cards before becoming promoted to General and infiltrating Jabba's palace. He's in the middle of a crazy year."

Man, I certainly hope you don't complain about anything that makes money. Because that would be awfully hypocritical. It is absurd, that's why people call it out. It being "industry standard" for so long doesn't stop it from being anti-consumer nonsense that needs to be railed against.
In this increasingly digital age games don't depreciate nearly as quickly as they used to.

I don't like Nintendo keeping prices high, but whatever I post online isn't going to change their pricing policy. So, practically, I wait for a 33% discount. The way to send a message to either company is to give them less money, not more.

How is UbiSoft offering three different purchase options anti-consumer?

If it was only the stupidly priced Ultimate edition I'd agree it is anti-consumer, but it's not.

If it was all-digital with no preorder discounts, in the way disc releases enable, that would be anti-consumer. But I have a disc copy preordered, with a good discount.

Irritating? Sure, but it's not anti-consumer by the usual meanings.

Have they mentioned how big the world's will be? How much there will actually be in it? Hopefully it's like some of the bigger open world games where it could take a hundred hours or more to do everything that's in the game.

Well, that looks impressively big and lively. Honestly, I am a bit suspicious since I don't see how it could be as absolutely stuffed as it looks without an insane amount of work for the studio and taking up a ridiculous amount of space on its system.

I am similarly impressed by but suspicious of the contextual animation.

I particularly liked being able to go to different parts of the same planet. In particular, it was cool seeing Bestine listed as one of the options, the old capital of Tatooine had seemed to have been displaced by Mos Espa (which in turn seemed conspicuously absent)

Cool to see the new pirate fighters as point out elsewhere, though I hope there is some kind of databank system to get a better look at them.

At the same time, I appreciated the nice variety of existing ships flying around - the classic BFF-1 freighter, the Darius-G from Resistance, and the Utilipede shuttle from Galaxy's Edge.

I also love the creature designs. I find those especially interesting, especially the focus shots they got in the trailer, given this game's focus on the underworld - makes me wonder what role they will play. Just random enemies for the overworld, or will they be integrated into the local planetary narratives? Also interesting given that their non-humanoid forms would require different animations for more player actions.

The cowboy hat is spreading. Wonder if this gunslinger will also have jet boots.

It is cool the space stations are also something you can explore on foot.

The arcade in the station is a fun touch as well. Somehow old fashioned arcade games seem very fitting for star wars to me.

Almost weird to see plants on Tatooine, even if it is logical for them to be some to support local wildlife.

I like the idea of tracking down skilled specialists as the main way to get new abilities.

Fortunately, this game will not be anymore near Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's mammoth +300GB, but around 100GB is likely.

Another, shorter video with different footage

-Akiva and Toshara look really good.
-That speeder transport has been used a lot but I always get a kick out of seeing it.
-Interesting how the rotary laser with defense shield built in from Battlefront has made its way into both this game and Jedi Fallen Order/Survivor
-The Nyxk fake death animation is great.

More new footage here, and some descriptions of missions, probably early ones.

-Space gameplay sounds pretty simple. As a pilot lover, that is a bit sad, but understandable
-High Republic reference is neat, if, as explained in the video, fairly simple and superficial.
-Interesting that along with the Pyke chopshop from the first trailer, we have another instance of a mix of generic thugs and troops wearing iconic syndicate uniforms. Wonder if there will be any gameplay difference between them.

An official easter eggs video. No new footage, but lots of fun tidbits, such as some facts about the new animals.

Notably, it directly references the sudden death of most of the hutt council rocketing Jabba to sole leadership of the syndicate, which seems like confirmation to me that the comic storyline is going to be important for this game's story.

Really? Wonder what was in that game. Or was that just poor file compression?

I want to hate on this but I come away from every video charmed by how much Kay Vess seems like an Adventure Journal OC. Right down to her name, haircut and generically boxy ship.

(Her pet is too contemporary looking though, it clashes with the rest of her getup.)

That Sullustan with the blind eye is a character from Aftermath, Surat Nuat, so already some great continuity with the book. Mister Bones when?
