Obi-Wan to Anakin: "You WERE the chosen one"

Clearly, Anakin is toast and Obi-Wan is speaking to a dead man in past tense. He was the Chosen One that Obi-Wan was counting on. Now all of Obi-Wan's beliefs are going up in flames along with Anakin. I think it would have been cool to see Obi-Wan pick up one of Anakin's legs and throw it into the lava as a symbol that he is burying his former friend.
