Tarkin had the better entrance. Hell he even got the better music. Though Vader didn't say a single word and still managed to be intimidating.

preferring to KILL HIMSELF rather than face Vader's wrath, as well as his final words, sold Vader's menace quite effectively I thought.

That reveal was awesome, I got chills when I first heard the breathing. Imagine how great it would have been had the news that Vader would appear not have been released prior to the episode release.

Seriously, they really need to quit spoiling this kinda stuff.

 

I was thrilled that Ahsoka is back, but I was disturbed and frightened to see Vader. I'm afraid for what he could do to her. However, Anakin/Vader is one of my favorite characters in all of Star Wars, given how nuanced he is. It'll be interesting to see how they portray him in this series.

 

Both Kanan and Ahsoka will be killed by Vader, I think.

 

Okay, so where does the show go now? Ahsoka takes Kanan's place, and Vader the Inquisitor's...and they just re-enact the same weekly escape scenes per usual? And then what, maybe they'll escalate to Yoda and Palpatine?

 

I'm still not completely convinced that Vader will be the MAIN villain in Season 2, or at least not the main physical threat. I agree with Filoni that he's simply too powerful and remorseless at this point. Sure Kanan was strong enough to take down The Inquisitor, but it took him thinking that Ezra died in order to do that, and Inky is nowhere near Vader's level. It'd make more sense to me if Vader is the overall boss, but is sending someone else to actually do the dirty work. Someone more powerful than Inky was.

 

I could see him as the series finale villain, it would be great.

Now we just need to get JEJ back again.

 

Why did they use that abbreviated version of Vader's breathing? The second ("exhale") sound has the beginning of it cut off and there's this popping noise (as a result of the sound beginning in an abrupt and unnatural manner). Lucas used that one sometimes in stuff in the prequel era (one of the AOTC teasers?). It drove me nuts then. Why is Filoni's team sampling THAT one? They need to find the full, unedited breathing sound for future episodes. Am I the only one who notices this?

What I'm wondering is how the show will handle the actual character of Vader. As of now, the impression is that he is the remorseless, fearsome Dark Lord that the Inquisitor killed himself in fear of. However... I think it's important to note that this is, as of now, the first time we truly chronologically see Anakin/Vader since the events of Revenge of the Sith. If you were to watch and read all the currently released newly-canon materials, it would go in the order of TPM-AOTC-CW-ROTS-Rebels-OT. So, with that in mind, we get to know Anakin Skywalker the war hero, and get to know him very well through TCW, and then we see his tragic fall in ROTS. Now, this Rebels appearance is the first time we are seeing that character since his (chronologically) "shocking" transformation to Darth Vader. That fact, plus Ahsoka's return, makes me wonder if Vader will strictly be a cyborg Sith monster, as he was strictly known as in 1977 and 1980, or if we will pick up on any hints of his past life.

 

good question. i had always hoped they'd do a mini series after CW taking place right after ROTS.
i'm sure with Ahsoka and Vader both in it now there's going to be hint's if not outright reference's eventually. Just be interesting to see if she ever learns who he is. If they go down that path it could turn into a different series really though.

 

And what now? Will the plucky crew of chaotic adventurers escape the wrath of the Dark Lord every time they encounter him? How do you write Vader and Tarkin into a series about unkillable joke characters without cheapening them? For all the epicness of Tarkin's first visit, he proved to be just as ineffectual as Kallus and Ink. Why? Because he isn't allowed to be in a kids show.

 

You make it sound like Vader is unbeatable. But if you think about it, his only truly successful mission in the OT was Hoth, and even then, he couldn't capture Luke Skywalker.

He couldn't reclaim the Death Star plans, Princess Leia, escaped, the Death Star was destroyed
He couldn't capture or turn Luke, the Rebels fixed their hyperdrive and got away, and even freezing Han ended up undone
And ROTJ is obvious.

 

Vader let the rebels escape on purpose. He had them, and their plans, in his grasp.

And I also want to add that the characters from the OT are far more competent than those cartoon characters. For example they don't suddenly stop repairing something because yolo.

 

Tarkin got made to look like a fool the same will happen to Vader.

I'd prefer if they stayed away from OT characters but then Disney is probably pushing for it.

Fulcrum & Kanan vs. Vader could be a good fight.

 

i'm glad Vader is there, but yeah Vader would kill Kanan.
of course on the other hand considering how powerful Ahsoka was in the CW, even though she was only 14 or 15 she could probably take out Vader and Sidious.

 

Tarkin was made to look like a fool? No, he really wasn't. The heroes constantly getting away from him and Vader, oh you mean like in the OT that everyone loves. The double-standard that some people have is truly astounding.
