I really wanna see the Padme family scenes because (well at least in the novel) it makes Padme's love for Anakin more belivable.

Here are the eight deleted scenes, as described in Star Wars Insider #63:

    1) PADME ADDRESSES THE SENATE-Following the failed assassination attempt upon her arrival to Coruscant, Padme addresses the senate in a speech opposing the creation of an army of the Republic.

    2) JEDI TEMPLE ANALYSIS ROOM-The most effects-laden of the deleted scenes, this encounter between Obi-Wan Kenobi and the analysis droids proves Dexter Jettster's later comment that droids lack the capacity for wisdom. This scene was the only one of the eight whose visual effects were completed by ILM before it was cut from the movie. The others were completed by the pre-visualization team headed by Dan Gregoire, and Concept Design Supervisors Ryan Church and Erik Tiemens.

    3) OBI-WAN AND MACE-JEDI LANDING PLATFORM-This conversation features Obi-Wan expressing his concerns about Anakin's arrogance, while Mace advises him to have more faith in his young Padawan, who could very well be the Chonsen One. "One of the great things about this scene is the interaction between Mace and Obi-Wan," says Kevin Kurtz, Lucasfilm Marketing Manager, "but also you see the Jedi Starfighter and its hyperspace transport ring. The end of this scene is something we really haven't seen before."

    4) EXTENDED ARRIVAL ON NABOO-This and the following two scenes flesh out Padme's back-story. In this one, Padme tells Anakin about her family, and they discuss her political career.

    5) PADME'S PARENTS' HOUSE-In this scene, originally intended to appear after the conference with Queen Jamillia, Anakin meets Padme's family. "It's 'Meet the Parents' all over again," says Kurtz. The resulting family interaction offers a more intimate view of Padme's life outside of government. "While she's this young, politically savvy professional, she also has a family to go home to."

    6) PADME'S BEDROOM-This deleted scene offers a more intimate look at Padme's past personal life. "There are some portraits on the wall that introduce a technology you haven't seen in a Star Wars movie before," says Kurtz. The holographic images depict important moments from Padme's life, including her first day as an apprentice legislator.

    7) DOOKU INTERROGATES PADME-Before George Lucas envisioned the droid factory sequence, Padme and Anakin instead encountered Count Dooku, who tries to win the Naboo senator over to his side. When he declares that the Republic is dead and not worth saving, she rebuffs his offer to join the "rebellion," her choice of words foreshadowing the role reversal to come in Episode IV.

    8) ANAKIN AND PADME ON TRIAL-In this short scene set prior to the arena fight, Poggle the Lesser sentences Padme and Anakin to death. The impatient Nute Gunray can barely wait to see his long-time nemesis executed.

I heard that some of these were getting put on the VHS release. Which ones are they?

In 2006, you will get to see every deleted scene inserted into the movie (hopefully).

How long would that make the film?

I am guessing 3-3.5 hours, if they included every scene shot for the film.

I think the Obi-Wan/Mace conversation was much, much better than the Obi-Wan/Mace/Yoda conversation that it was replaced by. I really liked the part where Obi-Wan confesses his awareness of Anakin's attraction to Padme and telling Mace that he understood why the Jedi were at first reluctant to train Anakin. It was much more human scene and I liked seeing Obi-Wan confide in Mace. The Obi-Wan/Mace/Yoda scene was much more aloof.

I also liked the extended arrival on Naboo scene. The additional dialogue was interesting, and while I did enjoy the scene with Padme's family, I agree that it was a bit slow without revealing a whole of new or interesting information.

This thread is jumping (locations) around more than Yoda on the force.... :D

I noticed during some of the featurettes ("Story," "Love" and "Action") there are short clips of deleted scenes. One that stood out was Anakin (with 2 sabers) fighting Dooku but Anakin was on defense/retreating...pretty cool..made it look like Anakin was more skilled using 2 sabers and didn't get one of them cut right away (if it had been inserted) there's also a couple other short ones not under "deleted scenes".

I think it's a fair trade off from what we've heard of IMAX and the content of the deleted scenes... IMAX clipped a lot of the A/P scenes but we get them in the DVD...
    works for me...

We DON'T get all of them.there are eight deleted scenes all n' all on the dvd.But there was a lot more cut from the film.

read it here on this link: http://www.starwarsnet.co.uk/deleted-ep2.htm

    Episode II: Deleted Scenes

    Padme's Address
After the attempted assassination on Padme in the opening, Padme and Palpatine address the senate. A particularly lengthy a moving speech opposing the Military Creation Act.

    Concentrate, my Young Padawan
A short scene involving Anakin meditating outside Padme's door. You may have seen this as a Lucas Select photo.

    Don't Talk Back
Anakin had more of a conflict with Obi-Wan, including a shot featuring the line, "I've heard this lesson before."

    The Lost 20
Jocasta Nu (the Jedi archivist) tells Obi-Wan of the 20 Lost Jedi and about the "great" Count Dooku at length in the scene where he is looking for clues in his adventure. A bust of Dooku can be seen.

    Explaining the Lost Jedi
Yoda and Mace discuss the lost Jedi who abandon the Order with Obi-Wan.

    Anakin's Warning Signs
Mace converses with Obi-wan on the platform before and after Obi-Wan gets in his Starfighter. Obi-Wan tells Mace of his apprehensions of Anakin taking Padme back to Naboo and he feels a disturbance in Anakin's feelings. You might have seen this shot in the SW Insider magazine.

    More Remorse for Tusken Slaughter
There was more to the extended "work shop" scene with Annie and Padme after he killed the Tuskens. Anakin cries (which we saw) - but continues on where he talks of his remorse for doing it and Padme tells him that he is only human.

    Padme Wants Obi-Wan Freed
After Padme's capture on Geonosis, she pleads with Dooku to free Obi-Wan.

    Up for Sentencing
In one scene filmed but forgotten, Padme and Anakin are brought before the Trial of Geonosians and sentenced to die in the Arena.

    Dooku Uses 2 Sabers
Dooku fights Yoda with TWO lightsabers.

    Padme's Family Scenes
Padme's family scenes were presented in some detail. All of her family was cast, but in the end they were deleted from the final cut of the film.

    Padme Finishes Threepio
The still naked C-3P0 and the scene of Padme putting on his coverings.

    Padme and Beru
There was a promo picture of Padme and Beru in the kitchen on Tatooine. Which means that they had a scene or two together. Unfortunately, all plot development there was cut and the Lars were reduced to significant cameos.

    Attack of the Massifs
Obi-Wan was originally going to be attacked by Mountain beast. We saw Obi-Wan walking down a path on Geonosis when he was quickly drawing his lightsaber, swirling it in a fast move! He obviously killed the attacker and put the sabre back on the belt.

    Join me, Amidala
After Anakin and Amidala are captured, Dooku meets with them at the round table and tries to convince Amidala to join the separatists.

    Boba Will Return
Boba Fett flying away from Geonosis, no doubt his heart filled with vengeance for the Jedi, who have just killed his father. The scene featured Boba putting on his father's helmet and jetpack and blasting from the arena.

    Ki and Plo in Action
Filmed but not used, Ki-Adi Mundi and Plo Koon had a mission to blow up the Trade Federation Control Core. This is why when the battle ends they are escorted into the circle. The first and major scene happens during the arena battle. When Kenobi and Windu are fighting back to back Obi wan says "We need to shut down these droid's" to which Mace replies "already taken care of". A group of Jedi, led by Plo Koon, fight there way into a parked battle ship and shut down the droids. The droids shut down and the Jedi cheer, but then the droids power up again.

    Diplodialect
Jar Jar's once had more scenes, including diplo-dialect (more mature language than Gungan) scenes. Also the laughter after he says, "Dellow Fellagates

in 2005 or 2006 there will be a super special edition of all six dvd's newly added footage in all of them and we will buy them. The DVD deleted scenes are not bad but I know there's more. I want to see that scene in front of the club played out more between Anakin and Obi-Wan. "But you haven't learned anything Anakin" is in all of the trailers but not in the movie. Should have been in there.

It was a shame they cut the extended arrival scene. It further establishes Anakin and Padme's budding relationship, and the edited scene's choppiness is so distracting once you realize what's been taken out. And the whole thing takes like 2 minutes, max... that was a terrible cut for George to make. I wish you could choose to incorporate it back into the movie on the DVD. I can't stand seeing the cut version of that scene now.

Don't know if it was ever filmed, but I recall seeing spoilers that the lightsaber dual scene has more dialogue and was longer. More fighting between each good guy and Dooku. The only shortness that really bothers me is how Obi-Wan is practically passing out after a few seconds of fighting Dooku (Master Kenobi, you disappoint me..). I know Obi-Wan's already tired before the dual starts, but c'mon, that was weak.

Have you guys seen those DVDs that have a feature where you are watching a movie and a funny symbol appears on the screen. If you press enter in your remote, a small featurette appears giving more insight of the scene. Then you go back to the regular cut. This is optional so if you don't care about the scene you just don't press enter.

Now wouldn't it be awesome if they did the same for the deleted scenes?. Instead of just going to a separate menu and picking them from there. I it would be much better if you are watching the movie and you see the symbol of deleted scenes, so you just press enter and see the scene that was cut.

I understand why scenes get cut but sometimes they provide so much background and answer some questions of why somehtings happened. With this idea I got while watching AOTC deleted scenes at lunch time, I think it would improve the DVD viewing experience, just like watching the movie with the commentary does.

Maybe on the next DVD edition of AOTC.

I agree Markdil, that the scenes on Naboo were fantastic. They really
established a lot about the heart of the characters and in my humble opinion, should have stayed in.

The extended arrival scene establishes that Anakin was lonely when he first went for training, thought of Naboo and Padme often and lends credence to his deep connection to her. It also shows Padme's desire for a family, like her sister's, and the sacrifices she was making by staying in politics.

Next, the scenes with Padme's family were well done and built upon the mutual
attraction that Padme was in denial over at that point.

Finally, Padme's bedroom scene, while my least favorite of the 3 I'm discussing, did establish how disconnected Anakin felt after he left his Mom and that he really didn't feel like he had a home.

If these scenes had been left in, that kiss at the retreat would not have felt so forced and sudden and would have quelled a lot of criticism regarding their motivations. If I had a vote, or a way to do it on my copy, I'd put them back in.

    My 2 cents anyway! ;-)

Also, Thanks for all of the cool info, SEDIOUS!

I agree that the Mace/Obi-Wan scene should've been added because of the subject of their discussion. (Too bad that dialog was not fully incorporated into that scene in the temple between Obi-Wan, Mace and Yoda.) Of course, the dialog needed to be changed since Obi-Wan would have said, "His abilities have made him, well, arrogant" twice. Another reason I like the scene because it shows that the Jedi have a small fleet of the Jedi Starfighters, plus we see the hyperspace rings in orbit waiting for starfighters.

One thing about it that was weird is when Obi-Wan takes off, Mace is right behind the engines. He would've been fried, right? :D

As for the extended Naboo scenes, I think it would've contributed to the "humanity" of the movie. I don't know how to explain it, but that was the word I came up with while watching those scenes. This was most true for Padme's Bedroom scene.

I posted this in the other thread but I think the Padme family scenes should have been kept in the movie. It mirrors the other family scene in the movie, Padme's family is all nice and nothing is really wrong on Naboo but then they go to Anakin's "family" on Tatooine and everything gets dark. Plus it's spooky seeing Darth Vader smiling at children.

The VHS has six deleted scenes: the two on Geonosis, Padme's parents' house, Padme's bedroom, Obi-Wan and Mace on the landing platform, and the analysis droids looking at the alien dart. They ran after the end credits of the movie, in wide-format, and each scene was preceded by notes reference where the scene originally fit into the movie and why it was deleted. After seeing them, I'd have to agree that none of them added anything of a crucial nature, although all expounded character and plot. I personally most enjoyed seeing the two Geonosis/Dooku scenes. It was good to see (and hear!) more of Dooku and Poggle, both favourites of mine. And Nute--mustn't forget him. He really is a jerk...

The Mace/Obi-Wan scene is awesome, not just for the content, but acting, as well as the extremely cool hangar filled with star-fighters and the circle of hyperspace rings at the end. It literally gave me goosebumps - I wanted to be up and away in one of those starfighters myself at that point! :D I don't understand how they decided this scene should be replaced by the Obi-Wan, Mace, Yoda interior scene. The latter is sketchy and not as gorgeous in terms of sheer imagery.

The extended Naboo arrival should have been left in. In fact, if they needed to make time, bits of corny dialog from the fireplace and meadow scenes could have been trimmed. IMO, this scene is really important in establshing why Padme fell for Anakin. I wonder why the "Palo" lines in the meadow, the Shaak riding, or the "kiss that haunts" line were considered more important than Padme desiring a family of her own. Padme's dialog really establishes the story MUCH better. The dinner with her family scene should also have been left in. I don't like the bedroom scene much, because I think it was not too well acted/put together.

The senate, Jedi droids, and the Padme/Dooku scenes are unnecessary and it's good that they were left out.

I agree with most here - the family scenes should have been left it. Remember in May when everyone was complaining about how Padme's sudden love for Anakin came out of nowhere? Well, add these scenes in and you can see it develop as the 2 spend more time together. Sure, there wasn't much action, but sometimes you have to go for substance over style.

"Plus it's spooky seeing Darth Vader smiling at children."

Wow, OmegazerO, I never throught of that. I just thought he looked very happy, like he'd finally found a place he felt like he belonged.

Seems from the intros by Lucas, etc., that they cut the Naboo scenes for plot and timing considerations, but, IMHO, they did this at the expense of character development and motivation. I think it took a lot of the heart and soul out of the film and a lot of the story, at this point, depends on the acceptance of the Anakin/Padme romance. Don't get me wrong, I love the film, but I think losing these elements weakend the story and it was obvious to a great majority that they were missing.

one scene 'from the book' I was wanting to see but might not ever have been filmed was the rescue attempt by lars and company, the wire strung out at neck height, the speeders wiping by and all those people killed in the time it takes to ignite one end of a duel edged saber
