The Utapau'ans always reminded me of Nosferatu.

I don't want this to turn into an argument but all I see in the photo (which I already referenced) are their long temples, no red markings at all. The markings are not in different places between the two characters, as far as I can see, they are in the exact same places. But let's just agree to disagree.

I didn't suggest they were one in the same, only that there was a "connection". The same way Filoni suggested a connection between Mortis & the Jedi Temple on Illum by adding some suggestive decoration inside the temple.

The markings themselves might have some ancient significance, since the Family was supposed to have been out of the swim for 2,000 years, the visual references they chose to display in "human" form might have been out of date. There might have been a sect of Force Users who used those markings and it might relate to the unique nature of the Inquisitor character, in which case the resemblance would be intentional.

According to Filoni the Inquisitor image released is the actual animation model.

It's not an argument, it's just contradiction! I'll not agree to disagree on something that we can visually confirm one way or another.

Look under their eyes. You will see red markings in the goth tears style.

You use of the words 'exact' and 'identical' are incorrect. I'm not the most talented person when it comes to discerning the visual aesthetic, but there are significant differences in the size, shape, colour and placement of the different head markings.

You need to adjust your monitor, Eternal Hero, because the Inquisitor's under-eye markings are exactly the same as those on the natural Pau'ans. Downward arrows.

The Son's markings come down at the side of the eye, and his forehead markings don't match those of the Inquisitor.

I think if the inquisitor has anything in common with Son its that the model was reused a bit. The markings in the above picture look plenty different. They are similar looking kinda like how a leopard and a jaguar are both big yellow cats with rosettes but entirely different species. I personally would be impressed if there is any actual connection to the Son.

Plus, it's not nearly the first time in SW where a person has blatantly copied part of themselves from someone else. There's Darth Rivan, for example, who wanted to steal Darth Revan of KOTOR fame's name, but something got lost in translation over the millennia and "e" became "i". Or how the logo for the Empire is ripped off from the logo for the ancient Sith Empire of TOR. The former is a case of in-universe unoriginality, while the latter is a case of both in- and out of-universe unoriginality.

I think it's pretty clear that the Inquisitor's look was consciously based on that of the Son's without any intention of a connection between the two. There could be an in-universe connection in that the Inquisitor is somehow aware of what the Son looks like and styled his head tattoos after him, but really I find that unlikely. In-universe it's probably just coincidence.

To my eye it's closer to one than the other. The Utapau'ans lack any head markings at all. These markings appear intentional, decorative or signifying something, as opposed to natural pigmentation that looks like Alice Cooper make-up. If we're going to split hairs, the markings under his eye's don't even resemble the red smear from the movies. It could just be redesign, they changed the eyes too . . . but the eyes look strangely Sith-like as well and the guy's wielding a red saber (as opposed to Grievous who used sabers stolen from Jedi)! For my money, I think there's probably a connection. It's very like Filoni; and he's already said that Rebels would reference SW across different eras not just the OT era. There was a heap of minute detail in TCW that was never elaborated on onscreen and that delved into the EU, games & other levels of continuity.

So, we'll have to wait and see.

Anyway, it's fun to be speculating on new Star Wars!

So in other words: I'm right to assume that the people behind Star Wars are really scraping the bottom of the barrel?

It depends on whether you consider reusing concepts to be "scraping the bottom of the barrel".

To me that depends on the concept they're reusing. I joke around about the repeated outfits and locales in TCW but that didn't bother me that much, it was just funny.

Even so, gotta admit The Inquisitor looks pretty intimidating. That's not a guy I want chancing after me.

I wouldn't call this particular example scraping the bottom no. There's plenty of instances of scraping the barrel, in TCW and elsewhere, but this isn't really a case that applies.

It's not scraping the bottom of the barrel, it's maintaining stylistic consistency.

I'd prefer if they dropped the markings on The Inquisitor's forehead altogether. I think he would look much better without them.

I wish we could just fast forward to early next year (for TCW bonus content) then to next fall (for Rebels) so we could get some conversations going about story content instead of all this sniping about a character's facial features. :). Go ahead, get your hate on.

2015 is going to be sweet.

    Episode VII

    Terminator 5

Avatar 2 (or has that been pushed back again?)

Dawn arrives at Ceres and enters orbit.

    New Horizons reaches Pluto.

These are things of interest to me. The last two mightn't be on everyone's list.

I find it very funny that the canon wars have finally ended...in mutual annihilation. The debate over whether or not other Dark Siders besides Sith are possible within Star Wars has now been answered....the answer is a resounding yes. In that area EU fans won.

However, EU fans have lost their vaunted continuity....

I wonder which side is happier?

Anyway, I have not been a Star Wars fans for years. I hated the pseudo spirituality within the New Jedi Order and disliked The Clone Wars for its rough shodding of continuity, political preachiness, and general lack of good writing. However, the details about this new cartoon have me intrigued. I may check it out.

He said he's interested in the fandom again due to Rebels.

And it doesn't matter. He can still post here even if he hasn't liked anything Star Wars since 1977.

We love sarcasm here, but there have been far, far too many posts along those lines that were completely serious--and usually included demands for a no-sarcasm rule.

    [face_peace]

Anyway, back to Rebels for OT fans, PT fans, EU fans, TCW fans, future ST fans and fans who kick the damn Fan Category Box to the curb and pee in it.

Let's get psyched for this show in which we learn that the Emperor from original non-ST ESB release is actually Meebur Gascon's grandfather.
