But I think it's safe to say that that was the original intention behind that scene (to complete the alien life cycle) when Alien was made as just a film without franchise prospects. I want to say Ridley has even said as much in commentary over the deleted/restored scene in question.

It also could still be canon- at some point you have to have Xenos without a Queen be able to reproduce somehow (or be able to produce a Queen that could then carry on from there, etc).

    It's not a theory.

INT. UNDERCARRIAGE MAINTENANCE ROOM NUMBER 4

The round opening illuminates a dakr ladderway.
Still carrying flamethrower, Ripley starts downwards.
    Pitch black.
    Ripley arrives at deck level.
    Shines her light.
Its arc reveals the Alien's layer.
    Bones, shreds of flesh.
    Pieces of clothing, shoes.
    Bizarre extrusions on the wall.

    Something moves in the darkness.
Ripley spins, turns her light toward the movement.

Hanging from the ceiling is a huge cocoon.
Woven from fine, white, silk-like material.
    Flamethrower ready, Ripley approaches.
Sees that the cocoon is semi-transparent.
    The body of Dallas inside.

    Unexpectedly, his eyes open.
    FOCUS ON Ripley.
    His voice is a whisper.

    DALLAS
    Kill me.

    RIPLEY
    What did it do.

    Dallas moves his head slightly.
    Ripley turns her light.
Another cocoon dangles from the ceiling.
    But of a different texture.
Smaller and darker, with a harder shell.
Almost exactly like the ovoids in the derelict ship.

    DALLAS
    That was Brett...

    RIPLEY
I'll get you out of there...
    We'll get up the autodoc.

    A long moment.
    It's hopeless.

    RIPLEY
    What can I do.

    DALLAS
    Kill me.

    Ripley stares at him.
    Raises the flamethrower.
    Sprays a molten blast.
    Another blast.
The entire compartment bursts into flames.
Ripley turns and scrambles back up the ladderway.

The novelization also said as much. Since the scene was cut, Cameron just improvised since he was not under obligation to use it.

The Expanded Universe used that. They created an egg that would spawn a Queen, as well as a drone or warrior changing into a Queen as a last resort.

Thanks for the heads up. I was unaware it was in the script.

Watched Covenant last night. I watched it with Scott's commentary. It's a good movie, the ending certainly delivers. The David "why am I here/who made me?" stuff is tiresome, and I just can't get past how 3 Stooges the crew is. Scott talks about stuff like characters slipping in blood (2 or 3 times in one scene) amps up the tension; but it just makes the characters looks inept. The scene where the woman blows up the ship was almost like a comedy of errors, I started laughing at one point. Still I enjoyed it; but Romulus is much better imo. Fassbender did do a good job in the 2 roles.

Eh. I see where that's coming from, but I never really felt that critique when I watched. Yeah it's a series of blunders, but it doesn't feel particularly slapstick to me. There's two characters absolutely ******** themselves with fear trying to deal with this thing that literally crawled out of a dude's spine, and as neither of them is a soldier, they don't do particularly well.

Yeah, that's all just pure panic leading to a lethal accident. Not so much slapstick. Repetitive, perhaps, though.

I just hate people tripping when being chased in horror movies. It's such a cliche and takes me out of the movie. I did like the film just being honest.

That ending was spectacular with her hanging off the ship.

I wonder if there's a fan edit out there of Prometheus/Covenant, where we're pretty much just with David, because Fassbender is delivering an A-list performance in some awfully disappointing movies.

I really think that Romulus will get a sequel and we'll catch up with David along the way

I honestly don't doubt it. Hell, with the black goop and the myth of Prometheus being directly brought up in Romulus, it's clear they aren't just ignoring Prometheus and Covenant.

Yeah, Ridley was never going to let them ignore it, even if they didn't give him another prequel/sequel.

Apparently the Entry of the Gods into Valahala is in Romulus, I saw it in the music credits but not sure where

Hawley has chatted with Scott about Alien: Earth and did enjoy Alien: Romulus!

“I talked to Ridley. His company, Scott Free, is a producer on the show. And you know, Ridley is the man. He’s the creator of this franchise, he’s come back to it later in his career,” Hawley said. “But you know, like the Coen brothers, he was very respectful of the fact that I seem to know what I’m doing, and I have my own take on it. That’s the thing with these films, is that they take on a life of their own. And at a certain point you have to take a step back and let them be what they want to be.”

This. I don’t fully understand why audiences expect people facing unimaginable horrors to behave like Navy Seals.

I like Hawley, and expect him to do something great, but "these films" don't want to be anything. The filmmakers want them to be something, and make them accordingly. Don't treat your own preferences like fate outside of your own control. Just tell Ridley you didn't like what he did in the prequels, and that you're doing your own thing.

That feels like quite the long gap between digital and disc, it usually is only a month. Don't think I'll double dip though but I do want to have all the Alien on disc to keep my 5 copies of Aliens company
