I'm not familiar with the real world effect, but in that shot I kept waiting for the crack of them breaking the barrier and it didn't come, so couldn't they just be below the sound barrier and what we're seeing is similar to contrails/atmosphere distortion?

That would be the aerodynamically realistic take, but this is a Marvel movie, so I'm guessing the intent was to show them breaking the sound barrier.

I think it’s just a funny way of acknowledging the recast. They did the same thing in Iron Man 2 when Don Cheadle replaced Terrence Howard.

I am not a fan of them leaning back into Civil War territory (and I am not a fan of it in the comic book universe either). I get it. It's fiction. But if you think about it for two seconds, which they force you to do with these movies and comic book arcs, they keep celebrating vigilantes. On one level, fine, that's what most superheroes are. Non-governmental costumed people, often with secret identities, who do...whatever they think is right. No warrants, no oversight, no legal restrictions, they do what they feel. Break and enter, take evidence, unleash violence, no Miranda warnings, no rules of engagement but their own, engage in fire fights in the middle of cities, etc. Accountable to no one. The buck stops...no where. That's the thing with police, with the FBI, the CIA, the military...all can be abused but, imperfect as it is, the buck does stop somewhere and as difficult as it is, "force" is under civilian, democratic control. Yeah, Captain America was a paragon of virtue. What if the next masked guy isn't, and has it in for you or your family? A little different then, huh?

I am fine with not "going there", which is what I do with most superhero content, UNLESS the story opens that door, in which case, I can't just shut my brain down and go "Gasp - people with superpowers can't just do whatever the @#$# they want, answerable to no one?".

But as a trailer? Lots of fun.

The Avengers have the Sokovian Accords which is regulating those who signed up. "Jessica Jones", "Luke Cage", "Echo", "The Punisher", "Ms. Marvel" and the upcoming "Daredevil: Born Again" have dealt with and will deal with street level vigilantes as a menace.

That's always the fine line that they walk. That's why in DC, they watch out for each other in case they go too far. Marvel just has them rely on an honor system, outside of registration.

At the same time, this is a Marvel movie- if they wanted it to be super-sonic, there's no way they'd avoid showing the barrier being broken and throwing that boom in there. Especially given that this shot almost directly recreates what was the final shot of the trailer for the first film of the MCU:

I don't think they just forgot- the sound design seems very particular for this trailer in terms of ticks, booms, and rhythm.

That of a evil or bitter ex-Widow out for revenge against her 'sister widow' (In this case it'd likely be Yelena with Nat dead), for trying to go along the path of the 'good guys'.

Well, in the movies that’s true about Marvel. Comics: It depends on the run. Chip Zdarsky made sure Luke, Jessica, Danny, and especially Peter were on Matt’s case

when Murdock went wildly off-course as a result of coming off nearly dying by showing Matt sloppily mixing painkillers, booze, and very little sleep. This caused DD to accidentally kill a robber, get into a monster brawl with a detective, and nearly get himself killed taking on the Owl’s drug syndicate alone. Peter pushed Matt to give up being DD lest Matt ruin it for the rest of the street vigilantes…and Matt did give up being DD for a while. (Phenomenal storyline - yep my favorite Daredevil run - that led into The Devil’s Reign event about Mayor Fisk’s anti-vigilante program. Rumors say that Daredevil Born Again & Spider-Man 4 may use The Devil’s Reign event as source material. )

At the Phase 3 roll-out event (happened about 1.5 months after SDCC that year), the fake-out subtitle to Captain America 3 was The Serpent Society until, later in the event, they could announce that it was actually Civil War, bring out out Evans, RDJ and introduce Boseman as BP.
