What is everyone talking about! There has already been an LGBT character on screen. Yaddle was Yoda in drag all along:

Yoda by day and Yaddle by night... ;)

But seriously, having an LGBT character would be great. It's about time more diversity was added into the films. The only canon character I can think of is Moff Mors, come on, there has to be a larger LGBT crows than this in a 2016 galaxy-wide franchise. :D

There was also Sinjir in Aftermath, and there have been a couple of characters in the new canon who were raised by same-sex couples. Seastriker in Bloodline was one.

As long as a relationship contributes to the story, and isn't shoehorned in simply to show diversity, I don't care what kind of relationship it is. Boy/girl, boy/boy, girl/girl, girl/gungan, doesn't matter. Tell a good story, and I'm in.

If a specific demographic, long-sidelined in cinema, is to have representation, write the relationship in such a way that it does the members of that group justice.

But it also shouldn't have to be walking on egg-shells if it will go in that direction, go big or go home. I'm not talking about sex scene material at all. An ass slap or peck on the cheek works if said scene was intended that way. Anything else would feel underpowered for the sake of it.

I feel most Star Wars fans would accept a gay character. I believe we are pretty open-minded, for the most part. It's the non-fans that will have issues with it. They know how to make a lot of noise too.

Do it because it adds to the story, not to pay lip service or being politically correct.

Not sure why non-fans would be more susceptible to bigotry than fans. Are you saying this from observation?

Even if my online alter ego is Rey's preferred spacecraft now, I can safely say that she and Finn will not be a couple - since the ex-Stormtrooper is still stranded in her "Friend Zone"... Instead, Finn and Poe are the more likely ones to end up together, from Bromance to Gay Romance! =D=

Plenty of bigots in Star Wars fandom, just as there are in most other subcultures (and cultures).

I think there was a few LGBT characters in the older works as well. There were several races of aliens that seemed okay with same sex couples and several mixed race/species couples as well. Actually that would be nice to see too, a mixed specials couple, like we have on Rebels, only as characters in the movies. By the way why isn't there more aliens as main characters in Star Wars?

It seems that outside of Yoda, aliens functioned more as a novelty than a thematic necessity. Even Yoda was put in there only because Obi-Wan was killed off in the first one and Lucas wanted someone who would be interesting to look at. There was no overt parallel between aliens of the SW universe and races In ours. They were probably put in for atmospheric, rather than political, purposes.

If we ever see LGBTQ+ character(s) in the films it will be no more explicit than Han and Leia and probably a hell of a lot healthier than Anakin and Padme.

I loved some of the references in Bloodline to aliens with at least four genders and how, like in Lost Stars, Gray subtly implies bisexuality and/or fluidity existing in the GFFA.

I think it will happen in the films eventually, and I think LFL will do it with tact.

IMO if it happens, it needs to fit into the intended storyline. Like others here have mentioned, there's no need to shoehorn it in just to meet some diversity agenda. I feel that way about any type of element really, not just this thread topic-it needs to work for the story. Otherwise to me it would just feel like they're marking off a "diversity checklist."

This is exactly how I feel. I don't mind there being a gay character but I don't want it to be thrown in there, and I wouldn't want it to take over the story. I'm also not for Finn and Poe becoming a couple because to me, it doesn't fit. They didn't show anything in regards to Poe's orientation, but with Finn he seemed to be taken with Rey to the point of asking her if she had a boyfriend for wanting to go back to Jakku. I agree with the comments about any relationship. If there is a romance between any character, I want it to fit within the story. Like Han and Leia. It evolved over the movies and it didn't feel thrown in.

As much as I love Chewy, he was never at the emotional core of the story.

I think star wars should stay away from any sort of romance storytelling.

Remember those moment you fast forward through in Episode II?

romance was done better in esb. it just shouldn't be too overt. it needs to play into the flow of the story instead of being the story.

That would actually be interesting as there could be another love triangle, but instead of two guys competing for one girl, it could be a girl and a guy competing for one dude...OR...maybe it would be an actual triangle with Rey pining for Poe, who pines for Finn, who pines for Rey. They all end up in a polygamy-type marriage by the end of IX
