As we speak, the US has confirmed coronavirus infections in Rhode Island and Illinois.

There are strong indications that there are infections in Hawaii and Florida, but are not being tested because of the restrictive requirements to do so, in turn because of a limited amount of testing kits. (Florida actually has no testing kits currently, and has to send samples out of state).

Nobody has the Coronavirus if we can’t test for it. Yeah, that seems pretty on brand for this administration sadly.

Why do we have two threads on this? Anyways, my former high school is closed under quarantine after an adult who works at the school seems to have it, about 1 mile away.

Probably so stupid stuff like people not buying Corona beer because they link it to Coronavirus can be included in this thread.

Her worst-case scenario is a lot worse than my "what if the global infection rate was the same as that of the Diamond Princess (20%)?" She says 70% - a level that would kill 100 million with a mortality rate of 2%. Possible I guess. Likely? Also, at 70% infection rate the global healthcare delivery system would be completely overrun, and that would drive the mortality rate higher.

Yeah so this is most definitely not okay.

Cases are popping up everywhere. As a hospital-based physician, my colleagues and I need every bit of information possible for when the virus hits our area. Not making the information available to physicians is inexcusable. No idea why CDC case reports are being withheld.

As of Friday, South Korea as tested over 65,000 for Coronavirus. USA? 459.

Huh. Wonder what South Korea has that the United States doesn't?

I know this isn't a pop quiz, so I cheated. The opening sentence of the Wikipedia article was hilarious: "South Korea was rated as the fourth most efficient healthcare system by Bloomberg." Just the idea of Bloomberg admiring another country's socialized medicine. It hasn't been long since @Vaderize03 told us a story of trying and failing to get a patient tested. Who the hell knows how many undiagnosed cases are circulating in the U.S.

Probably a few thousand at least but I don’t think it’s Korea numbers yet.

There's only been a 40% increase in the number of U.S. cases since Trump bragged about how few cases there were in the U.S.

This is pretty much exactly like the time he was bragging only 3 people died during the hurricanes in Puerto Rico.

also bragging about everyone's 401k gains 3 weeks before the biggest stock market correction since the great recession. seems like a pattern. or rather he can't help bragging despite evidence that it might not be prudent.

Declaration of health emergency made by Governor DeSantis after two cases of coronavirus found in Florida, around the Tampa Bay area. One was in Italy, other one has an unknown vector.

The analysis of the virus from a person in Washington indicates that the virus has been spreading undetected in the state for six weeks.

Well, eventually, yes. We're literally all going to die. But with any luck, it won't be anytime soon!! [face_party]
