Pope Francis will canonise John Paul II and John XXIII on 27 April 2014 (second Sunday of Easter)

 

I think John XXIII was the first Pope I was really aware of as a kid. Glad to see him and John Paul II honored.

 

For a minute there I thought this meant Francis would put both of the caskets into a cannon and fire it in the sky.

 

How else are we supposed to get up into heaven?

 

By airplane?

 

Build a giant tower that ascends all the way up into it, through the combined cooperative effort of all of humanity.

 

I was thinking maybe some kind of stairway.

No no no. God divided our common language and scattered us over the earth because they went about it all wrong. A tower to reach the heavens? Totally unstable, silly, and a waste of resources. Whereas space elevator is perfectly okay, hence Jacob's vision about a ladder going from the ground to the sky.

I'm surprised at how often I have to remind fellow (American) Catholics of this sort of thing. To many of them have bought off on the Republican party line because of abortion.

I'm guessing that since Papa Francesco comes from a civilized country, he's probably used to universal healthcare. Can't find anything on him having spoken about it, though.

I wish that more Catholics would talk about this sort of thing. If the ACA hadn't had the contraception mandate, then the Catholic bishops probably would have supported it.

 

They did support it. They said it was a better plan than Romney's plan. Don't forget that a nun spoke at the DNC.
