...with his hand on it where he could point it at the officer and fire within seconds.

Yet the officer was having a conversation with him.

Yeah, that ***hole is soooo much safer than a black guy who is running away from police.

I know that I find people who are running away from me with tasers much scarier than people who stand in front of me with a hand on their guns.

I also know that Philando Castile was able to just tell an officer that he had a legal firearm in his car, and was treated in the same friendly/benign manner as the white guy who literally had his hand on his gun.

    ...Oh. Wait.

Don’t try to gaslight people around here by pretending that there is no difference whatsoever in the way police treat Black and Brown people and the way they treat white people. We are not stupid, nor do we make excuses for racism, so you are wasting your time.

Don’t try a “maybe they don’t but...” either. No “buts,” and no excuses.

You suggested probable cause was met for Brooks to pose a "significant threat of death or serious bodily harm to the officer or others." A police body cam video has now been released showing the incident over 43 minutes. Brooks was drunk and incoherent. When the officer tried to arrest him at 41 min., Brooks resisted. The surveillance video from Wendy's then shows he grabbed the taser and appears to have turned it on while being chased.

Couldn't there have been another way to stop Brooks and get the taser away from him? We don't pay officers to take shortcuts that cost lives. The officer could have kept his cool and found a way to stop Brooks that used the least amount of force. Instead, he reached for his gun and shot. There is doubt as to probable cause for threat of death and serious bodily harm. Wouldn't the probable cause for threat of death and serious bodily harm be separate from probable cause for public drunkenness?

Here's something interesting. A white woman was filmed setting fire to the Wendy's in Atlanta yesterday. She was dressed in all black, similar to how we've seen other provocateurs dressed. There's definitely some kind of forum that these people from all over are involved in, who then get some kind of order by somebody to go out and commit something in real time as a protest is happening. I know I'm playing internet detective here, but these instances just seem far too similar and coordinated, especially concerning how they dress. And for this incident in Atlanta to happen now, after these instances appeared to have died down, seems very narrowly targeted. And it wouldn't have been difficult to see things brewing early in the evening, so there would have been time to get somebody out there. Weird. I wonder what could possibly be uncovered, surely the FBI or ATF has to be looking into it.

It’s ironic how close he is to the truth.

    EDIT:
    Stolen from teh interwebz...

Attorney: Officer....you went to a call of a man asleep at Wendy's
    Officer: Yes
Attorney: You later found the subject to.be intoxicated and executed a sobriety test which he failed.
    Officer: Yes
Attorney: Subsequently....the subject became combative and you and your partner unsuccessfully tried to place him into custody.
    Officer: Yes
Attorney: You attempted to use your taser but were unsuccessful.
    Officer: Yes
Attorney: The subject managed to take your taser away from you.
    Officer: Yes.
    Attorney: The subject then fled.
    Officer: Yes.
Attorney: You were trained and certified on the use of the taser before being able to carry it correct?
    Officer: Yes.
Attorney: How far of a reach does a taser have?
Officer: Between 15 to 21 feet or more depending on the model.
Attorney: What is the distance of reach of your taser model?
    Officer: 15 feet [Estimate]
Attorney: The subject turned and fired the taser at your direction.
    Officer: Yes
Attorney: Did a taser talon strike or touch you per this video? [Shows video].
    Officer: I think it did.
    Attorney: Were you incapacitated?
    Officer: No.
    Attorney: Where was your partner?
    Officer: Behind me.
Attorney: So as the subject discharged the taser it had no way of striking him [your partner] since he was "behind" you and weren't sure it struck you?
    Officer: That seems plausible.
Attorney: As the subject discharged the taser in your direction....was he coming towards you or away from you?
    Officer: Away from me.
Attorney: The subject discharged the taser which didn't incapacitate you and continued to "run away?" Yes or no?
    Officer: Yes.
Attorney: The taser's range you stated is/was 15 feet, correct?
    Officer: Yes.
Attorney: This video shows the talons did not incapacitate you and you "stopped", correct?
    Officer: Yes.
Attorney: The taser's talons didn't incapacitate you and the subject continued to run away creating "distance" of at least 20 to 25 feet between the two of you....yes or no?
    Officer: Yes....that's a good estimate.
Attorney: The video also shows you "stop" correct?
    Officer: Yes.
Attorney: The video shows the subject firing the taser towards your direction not incapacitating you...continuing to "run away" from you....you "stopping" therefore creating further distance between you two correct?
    Officer: Yes.
Attorney: What did you do next after you STOPPED and the subject was running away from you after he "failed" to incapacitate you or your partner with the taser?
Officer: After I stopped....I pulled out my service weapon and shot the subject three times as he ran away from me.
Attorney: Why did you shoot the subject?
Officer: I was afraid for my life

Are there any pushes right now federally to ban tear gas and other chemicals use by the police?

Sen. Sanders spoke about it on the Senate floor, but I'm not sure if he (or anyone else) has introduced legislation yet.

    From my Representative’s social media:

“Across our country, chemical agents are being used on protesters who are predominately peaceful. Entire groups of protesters are being made to choke on gas, as well as being subjected to pepper balls and pepper spray, for the actions of a few protesters. Over the past month, protesters were often the victims of indiscriminate force. On many occasions, they couldn’t breathe.

The Right to PROTEST Act makes such indiscriminate use of chemical agents a federal crime, holding all police departments nationwide accountable. We cannot lose the trust of the public by inflicting indiscriminate punishments without judge, jury, or trial.“

Jon Stewart says the police are essentially a "border patrol" between "two Americas" and are "enforcing segregation." It may not be legal, but it never really ended, he says. Given how so many police mistreat African Americans, I can see why.

Stewart then alluded to the coronavirus pandemic and restrictions imposed because of it, saying that white people lasted only six weeks in quarantine before they stormed a "state building with rifles, shouting: 'Give me liberty! This is causing economic distress! I'm not going to wear a mask, because that's tyranny!'"

"That's six weeks versus 400 years of quarantining a race of people," he added. "The policing is an issue, but it's the least of it. We use the police as surrogates to quarantine these racial and economic inequalities so that we don't have to deal with them."

The comedian explained that if the U.S. does not address the "anguish" of a people who built the country via forced labor, we will continue to hear people say, "I'm tired of everything being about race.'' So, many of MLK's warnings have come to pass.

Stewart is absolutely brilliant for seeing the writing on the wall and for bowing out when he did. He saw where things were headed in this country, and knew that he would be right in the middle of all of it.

He also is not nearly as well-suited for the times as Trevor Noah. Just as Stewart did, Noah has settled into the job and made it his own.

I think Stewart knew that his own popularity would have made him far too much of a center point in all of this. Which he didn't want to be. And by handing it off to a new host, the platform would have remained alive and well, but also not be quite as front and center. Stewart knew exactly what he was doing. But I agree, Trevor Noah is definitely a good replacement.

idk I feel like a better replacement would be anyone who hasn't joked about protesters being massacred, and said that tear gas and rubber bullets don't work so lethal rounds have to be used.
