@Darkslayer Oh Christopher Lee was great. The writing and directing were terrible. He was wasted. He should have been like Tarkin but he doesn't really have much of a presence. Nor does the Separatists in AOTC. They should have had a scene (and build up) of them declaring out of the Republic in the Senate.

It's been 13 years and they still haven't improved it. Dave Filoni would say how he didn't want them to become "villain of the week" and he just ignored his own advice. TCW didn't do anything with him. Even Dark Disciple (condemn it to Hell) failed and there was a good set up. He still turned into Villain.

 

Dooku doesn't have much presence and is wasted??

Geez, I think we have to be watching two different movies...

I was impressed in the theatre as a kid by how great Christopher Lee was as Dooku. I still hold that opinion to this day, regardless of how much crap they pour on the old gentleman...

Except that Kylo's helmet wasn't a necessary breathing device. It was just a dramatic piece of fashion.

Kylo is so bad ass. Totally what Anakin should have been.

 

@El Jedi Colombiano He never really made an impact on me. He was just there. I didn't go the cinema to see the PT but to me Dooku was just bland. He has a good backstory but it never comes across in the film. His presence just never feels credible. Even the Fight Scene just has no tension. I did think it was the Worst Fight scene (excluding TCW) but luckily TFA managed to make something much, much worse.

Anakin was THE badass in TCW

 

I totally disagree on no tension - I felt way more intimated by Dooku than I ever did Maul (and that's saying something) because Dooku managed to successfully defeat TWO Jedi at once in AOTC. And then he beat Obi-Wan AGAIN in ROTS! If I hadn't been spoiled I would have been worried for Anakin.

 

Kylo is hilarious. This is why I need my Obi-Wan and Anakin Bitchy Force Ghosts SO VERY MUCH. I would love to watch those two just eviscerate him.

Kylo: [delighted] Grandfather! I knew you'd appear to me if I just hoped hard enough. [looking sideways at Obi-Wan] Who are you?
Obi-Wan: [unimpressed] Better than you. Next question. [he and Anakin fist bump]
Anakin: So. I fought my way back from darkness for this, huh?
Obi-Wan: Did you make your little outfit yourself, Kylo? Or do they sell those at Hot Topic?

@Darkslayer I would apologise but I've never really felt he was credible. None of it seemed real to me because as a kid the stakes just aren't presented. In TPM Maul's presented as a threat and is intimidating and He delivers. I can't even name Dooku's first scene. and he does defeat both Anakin and Obi Wan but it never holds much weight to me. "But they are going to make out anyway".

And he's constantly ignored for merchandise forget female characters, we've not had a single decent Dooku figure. Like even Padme's peasant disguise got a figure.

Maybe I'll put my money where my mouth is, and write Dooku (or a book about Dooku) as he should be.

 

Only George can tell us what Dooku "should be." If you don't like that that's fine but only George can tell us what goes on in the mind of that character with 100% since he is George's character.

 

@Darkslayer You are correct but I mean to me.
And he was an Ex- Jedi turned Politician, he's a War Criminal, a Mass Murderer, a Sith. I just don't see any of that when I watch the films. he's just Dooku, the villain with a curved lightsaber. And it's not like GL didn't know that, he did and just gave small hints about it nothing really explicit. That's the problem for me. He seems just like a Kind (in some scenes) old Villainous Man, who's only role is to be a Villain.
And GL had the opportunity to give us backstory in TCW but we got zero of it. They made him worse. (anyone remember that time we found Dooku reading late at night in his Pyjamas?)

heck Kylo Ren (and I'm not a huge fan of TFA) was a better villain.

When you list all the things he does it sounds like a great character equal to Revan but what was presented was dull.

Listen to your inner self. The self that knows everything. And from there, you will know what to do. That inspiration will be the wellspring for everything that you do because the Kingdom of God lives inside us.

Yeah, Dooku will always be a better villain than copycat Kylo Ren who can't even hold himself in a sword fight.

At least you could sympathize with Anakin. This guy is just full of himself.

 

I don't think either of the apprentices in SW (until Vader) were that intimidating. I mean, first, it's a kids movie so they were always only going to go so far. And also while Maul kills Qui-Gon, we knew that he wasn't going to kill Obi-Wan. Maul's real claim to fame was looking scary.

While I appreciate that Lucas set up a character to be beloved only to turn him into a red shirt, I don't think he had the will to make truly terrifying villains. Palpatine was psychologically horrifying when you grasp all of what he did and that's a great layer. But even most kids think OT Vader is "badass" and not a creature from nightmare.
