I like the name Sheev. It sounds a lot like Shiva, the Hindu god who is also called "The Destroyer". I think it fits Palpatine who was the Destroyer of the Republic and the Old Jedi Order.

But, back to Rogue One now.

Could Lothal show up? I kind of thought that the sandy looking planet looked a bit like Lothal in a way.

Hopefully not- Lothal and Tatooine should for once remain unimportant backwater worlds. The sandy world seen in trailer should be some another outer rim hellhole. Besides I don't think it looks Lothal- it looks far less civilized than Lothal even.

True, although whether it is this film (or a future one like VIII or Han Solo), I can picture a planet from Rebels showing up.

There's no reason to be on Alderaan unless Mon Mothma goes there to talk with Bail.

If one of the planets is Onderon then I think it would be cool to see Dxun filling half the sky. They could even get an eclipse in the middle of a battle like this video shows:
Not sure how quickly Dxun would orbit though.

This reminds me of that scene in Predators. They are in an exotic jungle but have no idea they arnt on Earth anymore, until they get to a cliff edge and see the sky.

Suddenly you know they are on another world (although it does look really fake and fantasy like, badly done IMO).
I think a Star Wars planet does need one thing to make it seem alien to us, could be plants and wildlife or geology or sky, it just needs one thing.

I'd love to see a redesigned Alderaan. Could justify the redesign by simply showing a different part of the planet.

Not a huge fan of the one we got. Looks like a generic sci-fi city, like the ones you see on cheap paperback covers by third rate artists. I think Church designed it, so that makes sense. I much prefer McQuarrie's take on it, and hope Chiang gets a chance to design a new version along those lines.

The aesthetic, with its simple domed forms and spires, clustered like barnacles, is far more Star Warsian than Star Trekkian. Gives the feeling of a futuristic ancient Grecian city. Church's version is just...a bunch of spires scattered on a landscape. Like a city an amateur would create in Warcraft, or some other strategy game.

You know, I never minded the Aldeeran we saw in ROTS, but seeing those concepts has completely changed my mind, that looks beautiful. The Aldeeran we ended up getting did seem a little too generic-utopia for Star Wars. Didn't really have a lot of charm. Then again we only saw that one city for like 10 seconds so who knows.

I think that one was literally a repurposing of work that he had done for the Star Trek movie. Filoni et al. then repurposed that for Lothal (like they did for most of Rebels).

Sure they could always go back and redesign Alderaan, but I think it would be back at square one if they did.

Don't think it would need to be a carbon copy of McQuarrie's. But something closer to that, than the genetic utopian sci-fi city in ROTS, would be preferable. As long as Chiang sticks around, I think we can expect great designs. So I'm not worried.
