A/V Rogue Squadron movie announced, directed by Patty Jenkins

Kathleen Kennedy has just officially announced that Disney and Lucasfilm's next Star Wars movie will be Rogue Squadron, directed by Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman, Monster), to be released Christmas Day 2023. Scramble your fighters! This is not a drill!

Ok, now that's news I can be far less ambivalent about!

 

It's not April Fools,... it's not April Fools... I am dying!

 

Rogue One...Rogue Squadron...that won't be confusing at all.

 

I was just wondering about that ... maybe the two will be tied together, and this will be a semi-sequel to Rogue One.

Other key questions:

• Will this adapt any of the elements of the books/comics/games (characters, storylines etc)?
• What's the era? This could be civil war, post-RotJ, heck, it could even be post-TRoS!
• Denis Lawson???

 

KK talks a lot about New Generation and "The Future"

PREDICTION TIME: This Rogue Squadron movie takes place...Post TROS....I will wait to be proven wrong.

 

I would hope it's set after ROTJ, during the EU glory years. There are so many plots you could adapt from the Stackpole comics, and Plourr Ilo is basically Wonder Woman without powers anyway. She could be your protagonist, and you could adapt "The Warrior Princess".

 

That too...Either way it still fits with the Mantra of "New Generation" and focusing on the OT Pilots isn't really "New Generation" but the Generation we already know.

 

There does seem to be a lot of reluctance to actually draw too closely from EU material, so I don't expect to be right here. But I also don't really care about the movie if it's set after TROS, so I hope I'm right.

 

Or adapt them to post-TROS if they really wanted to. Warlord Zsinj as an Admiral from the First Order who took his ships and fled Exegol..

 

Ugh, I guess. Although wasn't part of the plot of TROS the ships couldn't leave....

 

Looks like a post-TROS timeframe is confirmed. From starwars.com: "The story will introduce a new generation of starfighter pilots as they earn their wings and risk their lives in a boundary-pushing, high-speed thrill-ride, and move the saga into the future era of the galaxy."

 

The Last Order ships not the First Order ships?

Also don't mean literally have Zsinj, just mean the plots from those books could be adapted in either era.

 

I hope the sequel to this one is called Wraith Squadron

 

Taika seems perfectly set up to create that, his humour and Allston's are so similar.

 

Tempering expectations (from "Through the roof!!!" to "Yay! ) if it really is Sequel Era

 

Actually a reason I think it could take place Post TROS is because we have something featuring New Republic characters and that's New Republic Rangers.

 

I just... wow. Never thought I'd see the words "Rogue Squadron Movie."

So here I am in the year 2020, looking at the possibility of a Rogue Squadron movie that is post-TRoS and could possibly also have Dennis Lawson as Wedge. My mind is blown.

Don't tease me like this! (But yes, a Wraith Squadron film directed by Taika would be *chef's kiss* )

 

Lawson back as Wedge hadn't even occurred to me but I am HERE for it.

Grizzled former fighter pilot Wedge Antilles dragged out of retirement to re-form Rogue Squadron to help mop up the remnants of the First Order.

 

TOP GUN vibes, folks... and even better: without Tom Cruise!

 

All I'm asking at this point is an orchestral version of the Rogue Squadron theme (the original, not the upbeat ones from the follow in games) or a successor as great as that is.

Even if it's exclusively set post-TROS, it would all be worth it for that.
