Yeah, thats a really sad ending. Other movies that are great at making me sad like so are "grave of the fireflies", one of the saddest movies I've seen.

These are lies. I saw @Ingram crying during The Notebook yesterday. Actually that horse dying is very sad. Let me add My Dog Skip to the makes me cry list. Even more than the others. And Brian's Song. I won't even watched dog themed movies as they always die. Except Air Bud. I think we've talked about this.

That’s it. I’m leaving. If I can’t have a thread without ducks then what’s the point.

I just watched The Remains of the Day on Wednesday for the first time, dags. A complicated performance from SAH - many call his acting in the film dull, but I saw a committed (probably a bit method-y) representation of a stoic character.

Oh, I'm glad you saw that film! It's one of my favs.
And well said, Hopkins's performance is brilliant. Very method and very stoic, like you said.
It's heartbreaking how he won't open up to her. I never once thought he was dull; he is playing that character perfectly imo. I'm due for a rewatch. And Emma Thompson is amazing as well. Not to mention a nice role and good performance from Christopher Reeve. One of his last, sadly.

Hopkins is very good in Westworld as well. Great show.

I'm mostly just surprised. But if I'm being fair I have similar thoughts towards a lot of recent sequels/reboots of old series. But Fury Road was an exception.

ejc, big game monday. i'll be home from work, so i can hopefully watch it.

we've still got the carabao cup final next week, but that's against the other manchester team, and i feel like some performance anxiety may take hold after 0-6.

if we can somehow beat you both, we may be back on track. :p

Vanity Fair recently had a list of 50 most influential scenes in movies (recently as in, this month or something) and the "you were the Chosen One" was selected...

And I wish that was all. But they end up railing on ROTS, and say, right off the bat, something to the effect of "not all influential scenes have influenced Star Wars for the better." Then blah blah blah too much CGI in modern films. Even though that's not even a hyper CG scene.

Can you imagine if someone said this back in the day? "The Munchkin City scenes from the Wizard of Oz are influential, but Technicolor, rotoscoping and optical compositing have destroyed true artistry in Hollywood. Bring back sepia-tone silent movies, the motion picture don't need any technical advancements"

I am glad you and so many like MM: Fury Road. That's awesome. :)
As for reboots/remakes; there are a lot I've enjoyed.

Ghost In The Shell (I feel like this wasn't too popular, but I like it)

    Blade Runner 2049 (excellent entry)

    Alien Covenant (great movie)

Mary Poppins Returns (I think this was overall the best "new" film I saw last year. Enjoyed it much more than Solo, which is hard for me to believe, yet it's true)

And Disney has made some nice reboots/live action remakes in Maleficent, Cinderella, and Beauty and the Beast.
And I am interested/intrigued by Tim Burton's reboot of Dumbo.

I suppose there are many I never end up seeing though too, like the Robocop remake. What are some of the other recent ones? It's hard to keep up lol.

I remember Anthony Hopkins best from the Mask of Zorro where he plays Don Diego de La Vega.

One of my all time favorite movies

Star Trek 09 probably qualifies as a remake/reboot. I really enjoyed that. I also liked the Karate Kid of 2010.

I get it. Solo wasn't fantastic. I like it more as a piece of Star Wars canon than as a Star Wars movie, if that makes sense. I still liked Solo more than any Marvel movie so far, and most other recent movies I've seen though. I haven't seen the new Mary Poppins because I saw literally three new movies last year (Solo, Incredibles 2, and Bohemian Rhapsody), but I liked it better than Incredibles 2!

There's probably a dozen or more I wanted to see, but that would mean I go alone to the theaters 80% of the time. Which... maybe I'll start doing this year, if I have to. I eat alone all the time, at this point what's the difference?

I have off Fridays so if there's a movie I want to see that no one else does I'll see it Friday at noon. I don't mind going to matinees alone, but I feel weird going alone at night. But I did for RO.
