where'd you get that?


just occurred to me out of all the times watching this...the fact that two ladies in an airport were openly abducted and Jack and Wang and Gracie being the only ones to do ANYTHING about it, is the most unrealistic part of the whole movie

 

so as a kid I made it my life's mission to visit this alley one day...

Were there a few specific films that most inspired Carpenter for BTILC, or just the genres generally?

 

well it was originally going to be a western, similar plot but all of it set in the wild west, and Jack Burton the typical cowboy coming in on a horse,

but it was decided mixing Chinese sorcery elements into a wild west scenario was too weird, so the script was redone,

And westerns in particular are Carpenter's fave genre.


Interestingly enough...Carpenter was asked to direct The Golden Child with Eddie Murphy, but passed on it because he liked BTILC script better

 

Interesting. I'm glad they changed it.

I appreciate that the movie is also a comedy.
It is quite a creative mashup of styles and genres.

as a kid I never got the subtle comedy references in it.

this is definitely one of those movies where, if this was the first time watching it today, I'd definitely think 'wtf am I watching?' lol

There is some hilariously random dialogue.

I wish I had first seen this movie when I was a kid, but I had never even heard of it until I was an adult.
