Why does the Battle of Ruusan remind me of a reverse Asterix narrative...

All the Sith, nope one planet full of them still resist the galaxy/Jedi. Surrounded by Jedi Forces amassing, the last Sith holdout brews their magic potion that shall win their day, aka the thought bomb, which explodes in their faces though. The End!

I mean it's clearly just mopping up of the Sith from 1,032 BBY to 1,000 BBY. O:)

If anything, Kaan proves it - he defeats the major Sith warlords in a few months in 1,010 BBY. Of course he promptly turns the Brotherhood against the Core, but it doesn't really achieve anything until 1,002 BBY. It's barely a war!

Regarding Kaan's actions against the other Sith warlords, it's what Dalek Sec would say: "This is not war. This is pest control." :p

Jedi and Republic sending/recruiting children for pest control? Looked way more desperate.

I agree; just from the locations of the Academies in his empire, it has to be pretty widespread across the galaxy (unless you want to assume it's discontinuous in the extreme).

Probably the most interesting part of that is the idea that Nar Shadaa (moon of the Hutt homeworld) is hosting an academy. To me, at least, this implies that the Hutts are the Brotherhood's vassals, and thus that Lord Kaan or one of his predecessors (whose territories he gobbled up) succeeded where Xim failed and brought the Hutts to heel.

I think when it comes to Nar Shaddaa its important to remember that officially speaking, Nar Shaddaa was essentially an abandoned Ecumonopolis where the Hutts have very little governmental oversight. It was a Coruscant that had lost access to the hyperlanes that made it important, so it became a den of abandoned city sectors, black market dealings and pirate boltholes. The official Hutt government, which does exist even if we primarily focus on the criminal empire elements, distanced themselves from it enough officially that they allow the Empire to attempt a BDZ with no pushback.

While various Hutts have fingers in all sorts of criminal operations there, it is ultimately something of a free-for-all.

Revan had an operation there, with the infinite engine, and in SWTOR there were various sith dealings happening.

Don't forget that a plot thread of the Jedi Quest comic was the idea of them trying to get Nar Shaddaa to join the Republic.

There are about 10 years in which Nom Anor's activies in destablizing the New Republic are more or less unaccounted for. (From about 14 ABY to 24 ABY). What do you think he was secretly involved with behind the scenes?

I'd say it's fair to assume that at least one of the three crises in YJK should be tied back to Anor in some shape or form.

Second Imperium feels like it should probably be just some secret imperial movements in the Deep Core that Anor was unaware of and didn't control.

I completely skipped the Diversity Alliance arc and cannot comment much on it. Strong maybe

Czethros's resurgent Black Sun is bizarrely powerful and outright planning to openly defy the Republic, secret outside help and maybe even some Masquer gifts allowing Czethros's agents to infiltrate various institutions. Perhaps people like Torvon were killed and replaced rather than being black sun fanatics who somehow got into positions of power.

What with Anor's involvement with Black Sun, that resurgence, just before the Vong War, is rather telling.

I'd blame him for Diversity Alliance generally, stirring up hatred, but probably not specifically.

It is fun to think the Vong wanting a weaker galaxy would faciliate galactic peace... Before destabilising again to weaken peace governments by little crisis.
