Barriss Coffee, Enjoy some Tang Poem. By Du Fu

There lived years ago the beautiful Gongsun,
Who, dancing with her dagger, drew from all four quarters
An audience like mountains lost among themselves.
Heaven and earth moved back and forth, following her motions,
Which were bright as when the Archer shot the nine suns down the sky
And rapid as angels before the wings of dragons.
She began like a thunderbolt, venting its anger,
And ended like the shining calm of rivers and the sea....
    But vanished are those red lips and those pearly sleeves;
And none but this one pupil bears the perfume of her fame,
This beauty from Lingying, at the Town of the White God,
Dancing still and singing in the old blithe way.
And while we reply to each other's questions,
We sigh together, saddened by changes that have come.
There were eight thousand ladies in the late Emperor's court,
But none could dance the dagger-dance like Lady Gongsun.
    ...Fifty years have passed, like the turning of a palm;
Wind and dust, filling the world, obscure the Imperial House.
Instead of the Pear-Garden Players, who have blown by like a mist,
There are one or two girl-musicians now-trying to charm the cold Sun.
There are man-size trees by the Emperor's Golden Tomb
I seem to hear dead grasses rattling on the cliffs of Qutang.
...The song is done, the slow string and quick pipe have ceased.
At the height of joy, sorrow comes with the eastern moon rising.
And I, a poor old man, not knowing where to go,
Must harden my feet on the lone hills, toward sickness and despair.

They never met Anakin, or any Jedi, so Han's skepticism in ANH still rings true. IIRC, there was only one brief mention of Jabba and he was never described.

The comic versions of the novels are a great resource. Good way to get an idea if reading the corresponding novel would be your thing. I really wish they'd let animators turn these novels into animated movies. They don't even have to be Rebels/Clone War animation quality, but I bet there are aspiring animators that would do it on the cheap just to get a professional resume/portfolio going.

I hate the fact that you need to buy the comics, the junior books, the novel, the behind the scene blu ray to get the full experience.

I want to go the movies and know everything I need to know from the movie alone.

BTW, the old guy behind Hux while he was making his speech for the SKB to fire is definitely Nash Windrunner.

Movies are short, relatively speaking, when it comes to background and worldbuilding and details, especially Star Wars movies where the plot moves along rather quickly. Star Wars, in all it's releases, is very good at hinting at stuff where novels / videogames / comics come into play to flesh out the world. I really wish LFL would start making something like the Marvel One Shot short film series but, to be fair, Marvel itself has stopped those recently too.

While it would nice to imagine that this movie would just be like the Daley books, all Han and Chewie causing chaos, all the time, all indications, and especially since there's been no mention of Han's backstory in the New Canon, point towards Han Solo: Origins.

Which, as I've said before, I think Han's Imp Cadet who frees Chewie backstory could be a great spine for the movie, at least the 1st half. And that Han's (now Legends) backstory has been around for a longgggg time, since the late 70s or 80s at least? You'd figure that would have come from Lucas, which Kasadan would have known about. Basically, I'd be surprised, (but not angry really) if they didn't do that.

I've always felt the original SE Jabba transcended mere poor CGI to look like he was in physical pain just from existing. It's really easy to imagine that last image with a speech balloon saying "please kill me."

He does! How they ended up casting Ehrenreich, who looks and sounds nothing like Harrison Ford is beyond me.

Well, other than his parents being friends with Spielberg. At least it wasn't Shia.

I never really noticed it before (I've mostly watched the 2004 version), but man, it's bad. That last frame. [face_laugh]

My younger cousins probably watched the VHS 97 SE's a lot so they sometimes ask me "what about that weird looking Jabba"? Hell, the 97 SEs were the defacto cable syndication version of Star Wars for quite a while so 97 Jabba got probably more millage that you would expect. The first thing I noticed in the 2004 DVDs was Jabba didn't go as googly-eyed crazy when Han stepped on his tail and the 2004 version sort of curls his hand up in a fist like he's going to slug Han for it.

Here's the 97 one for everyone to enjoy!

(Han is in it, still thread relevant!)

That's my main issue with Star Wars in general: it's nigh impossible for me to care about anyone or anything in the movies without outside stuff making me care. At least the old one's could tell a complete overall story within their own confines whereas now I feel like half of that stuff is cut out just so the already starved EU can get some bread crums to make stuff out of.

It's as close to a film adaptation of The Paradise Snare as we'll ever get. I mean, not particularly close, but as close as we'll ever get.

Also, on the leaked pictures: I like the set. At least the visual design element of the film is looking solid so far.

Why is there a scar on Han's face?
