Spider-Man 3 Discussion Thread - Spoilers

i got the ok from ObiWan506 to start this up. so we continue the Spiderman saga with 2 new villains this time. Thomas Hayden Church is playing Sandman and Topher Grace is playing another one. presumably Venom although that hasn't been officially announced by Sony yet. i'm really looking forward to this one. i hope that the ending for this is a setup for Spiderman 4 where Venom is the primary villain. so discuss!!!

yep. that's Topher Grace. maybe if he is playing Venom then he'll follow Red Forman's logic and try to make Spiderman wear his *** for a hat

 

Topher is playing electro i think...and if it was up to me i'd end it at 3 and not make 4

Sony has the rights to 6 Spiderman movies

 

But Dunst, Tobey, and Raimi are all contracted for three. And Raimi in an interview said that the reps at Sony had pretty much said, "Three is enough, people will get sick of it after three." Though Raimi said he wouldn't mind making Spidey movies forever if he got to keep Dunst and Tobey.

And mark my words, Eric Forman is playing Venom...

 

I thought Spidey I was excellent. I thought Spidey 2 was poor and a bit muddled. But... based on Spidey 1 I'm going to give this all the chances I can.

 

wow, kinda nice to hear someone say something different about spidey 2 other then it was better then the first one (which is what everyone i know says)
i liked 2, but i still prefer one for the most part..
i think that if they do venom well in part 3 and give him some screen time it will be the best one. i just question why they're doing 2 villians.. do they just intend to set venom up in this one and have him by himself in the next film? but they only have the stars for 3 films so that wouldn't make sense..
i think it's kinda dumb to take spidey's most popular villian (argueably i admit) and have him watered down by throwing another villian in the mix.

 

i had my doubts at first when i heard there would be 2 villains in this(presumably 3 if u think harry takes up the goblin mantle) but it could work out well if they do it right. the main villain for the movie could be sandman and along w/ the story u could have peter having problems with eddie brock. and towards the end if they choose not to go w/ the alien origin of the symbiote. it could be something where spiderman is in the lab where sandman tries to get cured. and some how he gets the symbiote attached to him at a certain point in the movie and uses it to fight sandman but towards the end he realizes that the symbiote is not good. so he gets rid of it but in the process it joins w/ eddie brock and that could be the setup for Spiderman 4. thats my theory

 

i like that theory Jedi_Master_Conor, but i just question setting up a movie that you probably won't get the same actors/ director for. i understand sony not wanting to stop making the films, but if they start 4 with a whole new cast and crew, wouldn't it make more sense to start the film with new villians and not leftover plot info from the other movies?
i suppose they could pull it off, but i would like to see the plot lines resolved in 3 if it's the last one they'll get tobey and raimi for..
BUT i think THAT probably would be a big mess if they tried that as well! they have 2 new villians to deal with PLUS whatever they decide to do with harry..
i suppose i just have to put my faith in raimi and co to make another quality spidey flick, and trust that the quality keeps up, even if they get all new people for 4..

 

there's always the chance that raimi and tobey maguire will sign on for more after 3

 

I think I'd have a hard time watching a fourth movie if it were all new actors. I can deal with watching movies with different actors than they started with if they come out after a number of years, but these would probably not be very far apart, and seeing a major cast change like that would be strange for me.

 

I remember hearing or reading somewhere that Sam Raini only wanted to do the classic 1960s villians. Venom is not a 1960's villian of Spiderman. So Im thinking hes either gonna be Electro or maybe Mysterio.

Aslo unless they use the Ultimate origin of Venom, you have to explain the Symbiote costume which ran 4 years over 4 differnt Spiderman Titles, not to mention the original Secret Wars.

 

well they could also go w/ that spiderman cartoon that aired during the 90's or the ultimate origin. w/ the spiderman cartoon it came off of the space shuttle that jamesons' son was piloting and crashed onto the bridge. i think though to keep it reality they might have the symbiote come about from some lab experiment. what was the ultimate origin again? i forget

 

I think it's just some alien costume that came from space. So would Eric Forman be playing Eddie since it's the Venom suit that attaches itself to Eddie's nervous system?

I had forgotten about the 1990's cartoon origin. That could be a posibility as well given that we have already been introduced to John Jameson in Spiderman 2

 

i think this might be the most plausible way for introducing the symbiote. does anyone know if the guy that played John Jameson is signed for Spiderman 3?

Ya know - I would've rather seen something done with the Lizard (since the Curt Connors cameo in 2)...but if Eric Foreman's gotta be somebody, I hope it's either the Chameleon or Hobogoblin...I mean if he's the Hobogoblin, then he could Duke it out with Harry's Green Goblin or somethin'

I dunno. Just don't want to see a Venom character just yet...I prefer the way Raimi's been true to the early Spidey comics and mythos.

 

You're the opposite of me I guess. So long as we don't get a Goblin for a villain I'll be happy. Venom is my top choice for a villain, with The Lizard coming in as a close second. No matter who the villain(s) is/are I'll still go see it.

Have they already started filming SP3? It looks like an on-set shot.

 

He's even wearing the trademark shirt.

I'm looking forward to the treatment of Sandman. Could be fantastic.



Sidenote on Spider-Man 2 movie: I thought it was as good if not better. Mostly because I think Doc Ock was well fleshed-out for the movie.
