Yeah, it's a real shame they didn't have more of the Doc in there- be it before or after the accident.

I KNEW that was Hal Sparks! HAHAHA! Cool.

I liked the "Raindrops" scene, very funny. Everything is good for Pete now. My favorite scene? Norman and Harry. Norm shouting "Avenge me!" was great. Harry finding the gadgets and helmet and glider. Very foreshadowing. Octavius was cool. But I prefer Dafoe's insane performance as Goblin. I love that laugh he can make for the Goblin. Jameson was very humerous. too. "I've got it! Doctor Octopus! Doc Ock!" Very funny. If I were to make Venom and Carnage in a future sequel, I would make Peter getting his new costume, which turns out to be Venom, at the end of one movie. And then in the next movie, he would discover the symbiote and Venom would be the villain in that sequel. But overall, Spidey 2 was very good. 4 out of 5.

That runaway subway train sequence was the most inspired, IMO, anyone else agree? That was cool. That was the best, and also enjoyed the "Raindrops keep fallin" bit. Those two parts, in particular, made it solid.

Very funny. If I were to make Venom and Carnage in a future sequel, I would make Peter getting his new costume, which turns out to be Venom, at the end of one movie.

Venom and Carnage simply do not fit the tone of the films.

Firstly, as has been stated by Raimi himself, he never enjoyed the idea of Venom and Carnage, not only because he never read McFarlane Spiderman (or indeed secret wars), but because he thinks the concept is idiotic.

I like Venom, but from a cinematic viewpoint, I agree.

There should be no need for idle speculation about what villains will pop up in Spiderman III - Green Goblin 2 and/or the Lizard. They were both introduced in Spiderman II.

GG2 won't be much of an arc because Harry knows Peter's secret, and it'll be a revenge fight. But the Lizard will be cool, and probably more capable of sustaining an interesting film.

Got a couple of questions and I'll phrase them so that some of you won't get spoiled. [face_mischief]

1. Spiderman's powers. Why does that happen?

2. Girl with chocolate cake. Who and why?

1) They really don't say why.

Venom could fit the tone of the films, but he'd need a reworking.

The running theme seems to be "scientists turn themselves into villians after their experiments go bad", so instead o having Venom or Carnage be an alien symbiote or what have you, perhaps they could take the bio-engineered route with them, thus making them, yet another, experiment gone horribly wrong.

Perhaps mix them with the astronaut angle and have the experiment be performed on the moon or ISS.

Would that kinda screw with the character's origin a little? sure, but then they really haven't been too concerned with focusing on the villian's origins, judging by the route they took with Doc Ock in SM2.

I saw it opening day, at 1:00 PM and I LOVED IT! WOO! :D
That was just awesome! Way better than the first!
Oh why that happens to Spider-Man's powers is because he was unsure of being Spider-Man. After he realized what and who he had to be and do he had his powers working, MJ with Aunt May helped him out with that realization :D
That girl there, that was just for another character and all. She obviously had a crush on him :p

I'd give it a 10 out of 10 in my opinion! :D

I think this movie had the perfect amount of action scenes. I've been disappointed with a lot of movies in recent years (Matrix Reloaded was the worst offender) because they just go to ridiculous levels with the fight scenes. The second (and last) time I watched Reloaded I actually fast-forwarded through half of the "multiple Agent Smiths and Neo" fight scene and most of the freeway chase/fight. And I LOVE action movies. But, it gets to the point that its a mindless cartoon/ video game. It's all the same, nothing interesting about it, just different set pieces. A big part of what I liked about Spiderman-2 is that the scenes didn't drag on to long and they had a point. And Peters misery was built up in a way that makes you really appreciate the pay off.

Spidy lost his powers because he stopped believing in himself and Spider-Man. Maybe it was just psychosomatic. He didn?t want to be Spider-Man, so his body didn?t do the job. But then again, maybe it was mystical.

?There were so many others on that day, in that room, together, there? with the spider. The hunter. Wounded. Irradiated. Dying. Angry. Why you? Given the power, what would they have done with it? They would have sought renown, perhaps. Sought riches. They were soft, especially the ones who thought themselves so hard. They would have crumbled under the weight of the gift. They would not have down what to do with it. Because they were not hunters. Why you? Because you were a hunter without teeth. You were chosen for your rage.

You were chosen because of every casual wound you suffered. Chosen for every time you were tripped, trapped, struck, beaten and humiliated before others. Chosen for the fury you were forced to hold in check, for the words you could not speak. Chosen for the blind rage that gripped your heart like a vise at every first and foot and rock that hit and kicked and cut you. And for the greatest rage of all, the one you reserved for yourself, for being unable to fight back, because there were always more of them, and they were always bigger, and they were always stronger.

But what if things changed? Who could be a better hunter than one who had been prey?

Someone who would be driven to fight back against the dark forces sent by the world, who would never stop even though they were bigger and more and perhaps even stronger than he was. Because having once been prey, he would never allow himself to become such again. Would never surrender. Would take death before submission. Why you? Because of all those who were there that day, there was only one hunter.?

When Peter stopped being the hunter, his Spider powers left him.

I saw'd it.

Frankly I thought it was okay to good, but it didn't really whack my "holy **** that was cool!" reflex like LotR did.

I'd give it a solid three of five, maybe 3.5.

I'm not entirely sure why cake girl was in there, and speaking purely as a guy while she was attractive enough she needed a bit more curve.

JJ was awesome, his assistant? co something or other? I don't remember if they even gave the name so, the white haired black guy, well to strat his hair looks just bed, but.. does he know who spidy is? It seemed like it to me.

Anyways, I'd agree with whomever said Octavious was almost unimportant to the movie's plot.

This is going to sound dumb, but I think he subconsciously "willed" it away. Like old people sometimes will themselves to die. I even knew a woman who said she was in labor and she unwittingly "willed labor to stop" for a couple of hours because she couldn't stand the pain (for a while; it started up again, of course). I have no idea of the truth of that -- but I think you get the idea.

that's Venom's origin in the Ultimate Spider-Man comic, sort of.

X2 still holds that title

eh. X2 opened brilliantly. That scene with Nightcrawler going through the white house was awesome. It continued very well. Then it kind of fell apart in the third act. It was an improvement on part 1, but Superman, Batman, the Crow are all superior.

Haven't seen Spidey 2 yet, but I loved about the first half of Spidey 1.

Just saw it.

I didn't think i would like the first one, but quite enjoyed it (Iwas a fan of the comics/late 90's cartoons)

I LOVED this film. It was great! Loved the elevator scene :D Glad most of the important people know peter is spider man otherwise it would have gotten stale

Can't wait for 3...Obvisaly harry will be the goblin. Iguess you could have the lizerd as well, I thought they could have the astronought guy become infected by Venom and seek revenge on Peter (not spidy)

I belive there will be two villans next time as not to keep the same as the first two

Over on upcomingmovies sony says "It is a big movie"

Saw it last night and it was terrific!

Tobey Maguire was so good in this role, playing a frustered, confused, flawed super hero. I was so impressed with his performance.

All were good. Tobey and Kirsten have real chemistry and made me cheer for them and I was thrilled by the ending (tiger! Brilliant).

I loved-

-Raindrops keep falling on my head
-Confession to Aunt May
-The subway fight - Spidey was the strongest he'd ever been
-MJ at Peter's door in her wedding gown.
- Peter telling MJ thank you and then her great line w/ Tiger.
-Harry finding out Peter was Spiderman
- When MJ sees Peter as Spiderman

And, the ending was perfect - a quiet shot of MJ leaning against the window, watching the love of her life with a mix of love, fear, and anticipation. Oh, that was so so good. What a lovely way to end a superhero film. I'm getting chills just thinking about it.

No big deal, Farraday, few films have, or will ever have that ability. ;)

Here's my take on why Pete's spider-powers failed him.

He began to hate being Spider-Man. He doubted himself...and truly started to believe that even he could not solve the world's problems.

Then he has that introspective...soul searching moment where he talks to Uncle Ben. The doubtful side, represented by Peter has a conversation with his conscience...represented by his uncle.

Its right there that he decides that he doesn't want to be Spidey anymore...and his doubtful side wins over the conscience. So...since in his mind he's not Spidey anymore...his psyche or whatever represses his spider abilities.

Only after Doc Ock ticks him off by keeping him from getting that kiss from MJ...finally, in his mind he knows everything his uncle told him was true. Spider-Man returns.

Now...tell me about your mother.

That's easily one of the best scenes in the movie. Loved that part. The dude that plays Uncle Ben is an awesome actor. He and Tobey have a pretty good onscreen chemistry. :)

Ok, so we get GoblinII for SpidermanIII, I can live with it but with such a huge roster of villains there had better be at least one more villain besides another Goblin movie. The Lizard would be cool, how about Rhino, Speed Demon, some version of Kraven etc etc. Perhaps Osborn can gather/create a supervillain team since he has now seen the orginal Goblin and Ock go down by themselves.

Acting in superhero movies is underrated. Hugh Jackman IS Wolverine, Christopher Reaves IS Superman, and Tobey is perfect as Spiderman.

My only nitpick is just inconsistances with Spiderman's strength, and I don't mean the differance caused by his mental stress. He goes toe to toe with Doc Oc in a give and take battle, then he is actually strong enough to hold a fast moving subway train. I got a little tired of LONG falls resulting in hitting the ground and cars REALLY hard and no real long lasting broken bones.

There is a cool duality played out in this movie; Peter Parker is wrestling with inner demons, while Doc Oc(who is very "spider-like" with his many tentacles) wrestles with his own, although his inner demons are more direct with the tentacle A.I. having partial control over him.

The special effects for the Doc Oc tentacles were great.

I agree that J. Jonah Jameson rulz in this.

Rumor is that we have to wait 3 years for the third installment, that sucks.

I don't know if i can call it the greatest superhero movie of all time, but I did love it.

I think what Raimi would have to do with Venom is go back to what Venom is About rather than what his origin is.

Forget the scientists and craziness angle.

Venom is Spiderman's Dark Side. A movie fitting this tone would be Spiderman accidentally killing someone (maybe some punks) or really wanting to.

Basically a bunch of scientists could want to make their own Spiderman and they fail to capture him (perhaps use Smythe and his Spyder Slayers as B villains)

Eddie Brock, the reporter that Peter is always trying to outdo and ALWAYS does when Brock used to be Star reporter (Jonah only wants Spiderman stuff), gets captured by the scientists when he takes one too many pictures and they give him a SUPER-JOLT of what they think is Spiderman's 'power source'

Eddie becomes like Spiderman only to the TENTH power. His transformation is to Spidey's more like The Fly and he becomes a terrible vigalante.

Forget the symbiote part, just have Venom be one ULTRA BADASS Spiderman.

I thought this was a great movie; it's definately head and shoulders above any other "Fourth of July" summer release that comes to mind. You know, the ones where aliens/lizards/asteroids usually attack and stuff gets blown up. If Spider-Man wasn't an icon and a staple of our culture before, he is now.

The movie's only real downside is the lull in the middle. Raimi said that there were very few scenes that didn't make it into the movie, and I believe him. There are definately a few instances where you find yourself wondering if there's something wrong with the film reel, namely the innumerous conversations between Peter and Mary Jane that always end with her walking off and Parker looking sad. One too many of these talks only succeeds in making MJ look fickle and Peter look pathetic. It's very realistic, but it's also very tiring. At least one of these could have been cut.

If those scenes had to be in there, they could have changed the dialogue a little bit so the two were simply having a casual conversation, as they do several times in the beginning of the movie. Maguire and Dunst were born to act opposite each other, but too often they're stuck giving speeches. The script was good, but there was definately some room for improvisation where the two lovers are concerned. I would have ditched the wedding subplot too, because weddings are always cheesy. Getting engaged is enough.

I've seen it twice since opening day. As that probably explains, I loved it.

Some of my friends that saw it at midnight weren't as keen on it as I was because there was less action, but I think the character development was nice and well-adjusted. Sure, everyone loves Spider-Man because he's Spider-Man, but what sets the franchise apart from other comic book superhero films is that we are supposed to care about Peter. Bruce Wayne is essentially just out to kick ass for his own personal reasons, and Clark Kent...well, with a superhero like him, there seems to be a loss of human vulnerability. Spider-Man, however, is the "working class hero" and hey--sometimes heroes have to do the laundry, have to keep a steady job, and can't always have what they want.

Unlike other superhero films, Spider-Man 2 managed to actually study that--Peter doesn't *like* having the dual lives...he can't hole up at the Xavier School or his own personal mansion--he has another life. For them to ignore that wouldn't do the character justice, and I think the movie handled it well. Plus, Raimi made the movie attractive for everyone: there is drama (easily the best scene being Peter's confession to Aunt May), romance, humor, action, suspense, and whatever else you could possibly want. The old time fans grin when they see Lizard and Man Wolf, but it's blended excellently. Really, who couldn't be satisfied?

I loved it. The action sequences were nearly flawless this time, and Doc Ock helped cut down some of the cheesiness that Green Goblin had. But, as others have said, I didn't like the passing around of Spider-Man, and I didn't particularly care for The Graduate-esque scene. Still, it was everything and more that I wanted from a sequel, not to mention a summer movie. Jameson was hilarious, the romance was satisfying without being overbearing, and the effects were great.

Not your run of the mill movie...I *cared* a lot about Peter, which is more than I can say for a lot of other film characters.

Isnt Raimi only signed on through part 3? After that, if they want to pursue Venom/Carnage...they could by going with a different director.

I also think that, if TM backs out of playing Spidey, that guy from "The Day After Tomorrow" would make a similar Spidey. He even looks like TM to a certain extent. I dunno. Just a thought.

I can't wait for part 3. But waiting 3 years sucks. 2 years at the most.

I think the harry potter franchise has the whole year and a half thing down...that's the perfect amount of time...not too long and not too short...granted the amount of effects in it aren't nearly comparable to Spiderman...but still.

Tobey was so good in this film that he's the only who can be Spiderman. I'd be greatly disappointed if he didn't make #3 but I've read several times that he and Kirsten are under contract for 3 films. Unless Tobey's back goes out completely, he'll return. I think he really felt much more comfortable as Spiderman this time around.
