Its one of these things that was never really explained, probably because it doesn't make sense

he has the highest midichlorian numbers, 20,000

    per cell? In his body?

if its per cell (The more likely notion), then you could be cut into tiny chunks and you would still have 20,000 per cell...

It's per cell. "Midichlorians live in our cells," Qui-Gon says in Ep. I. And if it's not per cell, then it'd have to be like one quadrillionth of a midichlorian per cell for 20,000 to be extraordinary.

Well, Cardas bypasses midi-chlorians entirety to affect changes in reality.

Which makes sense, given he's an incarnation of Lucas himself. :p

But, seriously, he's on a whole different wavelength to the channels the Jedi and Sith use, I'd expect. I certainly don't think any and everyone should be able to become a Jedi... but I do think that anyone sensitive enough to the Force to begin the training should be able to build upon that original starting point.

So they're implying to us that at a time when Qui-Gon Jinn was still a boy, Darth Plagueis uaed the Force to see the events of the future, and saw the creation of Darth Vader - several decades before it happened. Discuss. :)

Oh, so that's what Plagueis was doing as his apprentice was turning himself into the best Sith ever: stalking Jedi.

And did he just have a vision of the six films?

"I need a drink," Plagueis thought.

    And the rest is history.

The chart only went up to 20,000.

Anakin's was OFF the charts. He could have 21,000... he could have 9,700,000... we don't know.

Well, he could have been exactly 20,000. Though it's safe to assume he's off the chart if he maxed it out. :p

Ahh good point, but the point still stands though, having a arm and a leg (or two) shouldn't effect the amount of Midichlorians per cell...

And too be fair, do we see Vader being weak? yes he can't do Force Lightning, but other then that...

I used to bemoan how silly it was that he couldn't use lightning.

Today, I wish there were more Sith who couldn't use lightning, as lightning's become overrated.:p

Did you skip the macrobinoculars part? :p

Clearly, 'Here goes De mask' was spying from a distance as Qui Gon and Anakin had their:
"Master Qui Gon sir, I've been meaning to ask you, what are midichlorians?"

    Stupid Star Wars Science add-on:
I've held to the view that "midichlorian counts" mean density within, or saturation level within each cell. How else could a crippled Vader still possess tremendous power? His remaining cells MUST have a high saturation level of midi's, otherwise my pea-brain can't fathom how they equate him being 80% of what Palpatine was capable of....

Wait a minute! What if I totally misread this? What if Qui-Gon refers to just, well, Qui-Gon, and "boy" refers to Anakin? What if this is during the events of TPM and Qui-Gon and Anakin are together and this means the events of the film are being literally seen (via macrobinoculars) through Plagueis' eyes? Discuss again.

    I was thinking:

*Qui-Gon stumbles like -- have you seen the music video for the song Jizz In my Pants?*

OBI-WAN: Master, what happened? Did your sex drive finally kick in? Did you have one of those -- what did Master Yoda call them? -- wet dreams? Uh, wet daydreams...?

QUI-GON: No. I felt a disturbance in the Force. As if someone was born who could bring balance to the Force.

    OBI-WAN: Like the prophecy?

    QUI-GON: The whole bit.

OBI-WAN: Boy, that'd be cool! I'd love to be part of that when I grow up!

    *Meanwhile, wherever Sidious is*

SIDIOUS: Hnh? What was that? Ah, who I am kidding? I felt that. It was the birth of one more powerful than I! *snarl* Now I'll have to them my b!tch.

Could be. That would place it right before Plagueis ended up as fried -- lean -- meat. Kid's mine, Plagueis! *cue lightning*

Completley agree. After all if it was simply midichlorians in your body than size would matter.

That is how I read it.

I sort of really want Plagueis to be this crazy kook who wanders around with a pair of macrobinoculars and a bottle of alcohol who spends half his time playing a Rear Window-esque hermit with the TPM characters.

How can you increase the midis in your cells?? That would require midi manipulation wouldn?t it??

I think the 20,0000 count is per cell, but Anakin lost a lot of Cells.

So an average human has 100 trillion cells x 20,000 = something Quadrillion

After the loss of two arms, two legs and receiving massive burns this count would surely have lowered significantly.

Saying that I know next to nothing about biology.

Do Midis actually have any bearing on how strong you can be with the force? Or is it how strongly the force is with you?

All emphases in these quotes are mine:

So, just for the sake of adding perspective to this little side-discussion about a Jedi's M-Cs: according to established EU, the average baseline human has approximately, or less than, 2,500 midi-chlorians per cell (which settles that minor issue). This means that even ordinary people may have potential in the Force, but they shouldn't hold their breath when it comes to doing anything with it. To have more than 5,000 midi-chlorians per cell is itself unusual; if Sergeant Stihl is any indicator, it means you can tell when planets get blown up, sense the loss of life not too differently than Kenobi did when the same thing happened in ANH, and be able to see things before they happen well enough to be a bad-a*s martial artist and a damned good soldier. The maximum recorded count, of course, is Anakin's at over 20,000 midi-chlorians per cell (and of course, we know that was higher than Yoda's count, but I'm curious to know what Yoda's count really was, then).

And this begs the question: for the record, who's curious about exactly what Palpatine's midi-chlorian count is? And who's wondering if the book will cover that in any way? It's certainly not being SHY about midi-chlorians (Hell, it may even be the thing that makes them make more sense to us long-time opponents of the idea), but will it reveal THAT secret about our hero? I wonder.

    WAIT, WAIT, WAIT!
Unless I completely missread the passage, does it imply Plageius is Maul? If he did transfer his conciousness to Palpatine's apprentice that'd be beyond awesome.

I hope that's what's implied! So many repercussions (TCW season 4)
