ST Star Wars : Galaxy's Edge

I doubt it makes much more than Ep 8 domestically unless the movie is really good on its own.

 

It'll only make a dollar. And I will buy it for that amount.

 

Speculation on the Star wars rights.

 

Without even watching that, I feel completely comfortable in saying that freedom of speech was probably a mistake.

 

Midnight’s Edge is garbage and yet they probably make six figures a year for just talking nonsense and posting it on YouTube. I’m in the wrong business.

To summarize, their theory is no original trilogy characters are being used for Galaxy's Edge because Disney probably doesn't have the rights to those characters. This makes sense to me, otherwise Disney foolishly chose not to use characters every Star Wars fan wants to see in Galaxy's Edge. Every frustrating Disney decision makes sense to me now. Also it wouldn't surprise me that George Lucas remains 10 steps ahead of his contemporaries by keeping the rights to the original trilogy characters.

 

That doesn’t make any sense because you can see Darth Vader and Chewie at Disneyland.

And they’re both OT characters.

 

That's depressing.

Of course they have the rights to those characters. Their theory is that GL still has a stake in the original characters and Disney is essentially being vindictive and denying him profits, which doesn't make sense for several reasons. Firstly they are using the original characters in other media extensively. Secondly they still get the vast majority of profits. Thirdly GL is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) shareholder at Disney and therefore he is making money anyway.

There are no original characters in costume at GE because they likely want people to focus upon the characters with movies coming out.

 

Makes total sense.

 

But Chewbacca’s at Galaxy’s Edge most of the time. So that doesn’t make any sense.

Galaxy’s Edge “takes place” between TLJ and TROS. That’s all there is to it.

Just like the Clone Wars cartoon takes place between AotC and RoS.

 

Why would George retain rights to the OT characters though? He sold the rights to the movies to Disney. Sounds like ANH was the initial sticking point since Fox still had some stake in it, but that's clearly been cleared up by now given Disney owns Fox.

That’s one of the most ridiculous and unfounded theories I’ve heard in a long time, and it makes pretty much no sense at all. We’ve seen classic, OT characters in every single film Disney has released so far, and in every animated series, and in every video game, in addition to books and comics. The frequently parroted complaint the past five or so years is that there’s too much OT material and too much emphasis on the OT characters, and yet as soon as the theme park revolves around a different timeline and set of characters, suddenly the rights to the OT characters are brought into question by the conspiracy minded? It’s preposterous.

 

Bada-bingo.

 

Yeah, Midnight's Edge has gone downhill. They still make excellent retrospective videos or anything else based on fact, but the second they 'speculate' or 'theorize' it goes downhill real quick. I pretty much never click on anything Star Wars related from them. I know my Star Warz!

 

I wonder what George Lucas would actually think of all these people "fighting" for him?

 

He is probably laughing abit due to when you go back to 2016 everyone was all Pro-Disney and how Lucas was getting tossed aside so he couldn't damage the franchise anymore with his lucas-isms... now its all Disney are destroying Georges franchise!
