Once you watch a bunch of it, it is a hard show to actively dislike. It's like kicking a puppy. Neeku goes a long way, he's pretty gold.
Just finished the show. I liked it. That reunion with Tam actually had me choked up. The show grows on you. It’s still my least favorite of the multi season shows. But it’s still good fun. I recommend binging it if you can.
Oh also an aside. In one episode Torra says Wizard and man it made that episode a 10/10. Any time I hear that word uttered in the same context of “oh wow that’s cool” that we got in TPM I get a great big smile.
See even there. Despite it being played for way more of a joke. I still got a huge smile out of me. I just love it.
I just really can't get past how badly Kaz was portrayed in the series. Basically it was like the Resistance recruited a complete incompetent who only excelled at piloting to be their spy. Not to even mention the end of Season 1 when Tam decides the people who just genocided a whole star system are better than her 'friends' who lied to her.
She didn’t know about it I think. She leaves the first order because they commit another genocide in season 2
Yeah, as much as I do like the series, it is pretty baffling that Poe was like "Wow, this kid is an amazing fighter pilot - better stick him on a long job spying with a cover story of being a mechanic, neither of which he has any training in, rather than put him in the pilot corp." I mean, I get thematically they were going with an arc of a spoiled rich kid learning to apply himself even to things that don't come easily, but as in-universe decision the logic is baffling, even taking into account how understaffed the resistance is.* Plus there is such a thing as over-egging the pudding, and Kaz's military background should have given him a few more skills than just flying. *Though apparently the original pitch was that Kaz was specifically going undercover as a racer and would have participated in the racing and pirate fighting more directly, but Filoni was apparently talked out of that to avoid repetition. While I understand that angle, I feel Kaz being recruited for that would have made a lot more sense.
In the series they even point out Kaz had other training with “simulation blasters” but it obviously didn’t translate as he sucked ass at shooting. Like even worse than a stormtrooper. Plus he wasn’t taught how to preform basic repairs to ships. Although ironically the Mandalorian portrayal of the new republic has made this much more believable.
The FO broadcast it. And unless I am remembering wrong Tam watched that broadcast. That may have helped...but...to me at least...more seriousness to the writing as well. If they went that way was Kaz still going to incompetently fumble his way through to success? They also needed a story arc that was about the people around him growing to respect Kaz. He saves Aunt Z and Hype from the new order and when they come back they both just keep crapping all over him.
Tam is without a doubt a grade A moron. It's really hard to have sympathy for someone that chooses fascism because "my friends lied to me about being anti-fascists!" The drive to get her out of the FO didn't feel very convincing to me. I don't think I'd put much effort into de-radicalizing a friend that literally chooses to side with people that would annihilate and entire star system just because I didn't openly tell her I was the Star Wars equivalent of Antifa in black bloc.
So I posted this in TV but I think it’s worth sharing here as well. I was looking for a source about a potential third season of resistance that was cancelled and I found it in this podcast where they interview one of the shows creators. Basically to surmise there was a potential for a third season, but just in case that didn’t happen they planned it as 2. Also Asajj Ventress was going to appear in this at one point. And yes they would have explained how she survived DD. I don’t know how. But that was something they thought of doing. anyway the full interview is fascinating worth a listen https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/...--Head-Writer-on-Star-Wars-Resistance-e16jgrr
As much as I hate them killing her...I would totally be against bringing her back some 50 years later.
Oh don’t get me wrong I am very glad they didn’t. Best leave people dead in the past. As Thanos once said no more resurrections. If only Lucasfilm would listen
That would have redeemed the entire series in my eyes. Not like I hated Resistance or anything, but it took far too long to find its footing.
Did it find it's footing? Lol I liked the show. I didn't love that it was cancelled after two seasons. What was the point? Basically a drawn out advertisement for RoS? And it has virtually no footprint. Nothing came out of it that is followed up on or referenced in anyway.
It was seemingly building to Duel of the Fates- or at least seeding smaller subplots connected to it. IIRC, according to Pablo (I think), when the production of IX stalled, there was no way to maintain the animation production schedule without there being guidance for what direction to take the era in. So, they had to end it after 2 seasons. And then DOTF became ROS and those plotlines it had begun to seed were abandoned anyways. But, to be fair, we have gotten some references from RES- the Colossus and some of the fighters were at Exegol (though their most direct shot was cut from the film), Kaz's father is in Ahsoka, etc. There's also potential for Bad Batch Season 3 to have cameos by some characters.
"A victim" of the failure of the ST. What a disaster to have no plan not only for the trilogy but also ever since Jedi connecting to the trilogy. Now it's this crappy black hole era that can't be touched because it's such a damn mess, especially the OT big 3 (and especially Luke...who hid on an island most of the time?--a smart retcon needs to fix this).
