    I don't doubt that SW movies will some day get back on track. But the thirty-fourth announcement of some random new standalone movie doesn't give me hope that that day is today.

    I guess a lot of it will come down to how the Mando film does. It could generate some momentum, I guess.

    Sir that is just nineties Star Trek. Trade up your Disney Plus subscription for a Paramount Plus one and you're all set.

    It's actually a lot of sci-fi shows ;). Whether it's a base or a ship, there's usually some central set that can be used for cost-saving concerns, and sued as a platform to approach other locations as needed. Star Trek, S:AAB, BSG, SG-1, Farscape, etc.

    I must say strange to have a movie called Starfighter while Rogue Squadron is still at least theoretically in the works.

    Assuming Rogue Squadron *is* still in the works, it's giving me deja vu to when they delayed the Obi-Wan TV show and gave it a complete rewrite, presumably at least in part because The Mandalorian Season 1 ended up being the Western it was planning on being.

    What would happen to Rogue Squadron if Levy's movie came out first and got the jump on doing the whole starfighter combat thing? I mean, one of the (many) weaknesses of The Book of Boba Fett was that it was barely distinguishable from The Mandalorian, after all.

    Wow, never thought we'd see classic characters Nym, Vana Sage, and Rhys Dallows on the big screen!

    First Rogue Squadron and now this? If this naming convention holds, soon we should see an announcement of Star Wars: Battle for Naboo in the next few years.

    They almost did a Top-Gun-for-clones for the then-planned Season 8 of Clone Wars that didn't happen. You keep getting closer to what you want every time they try ;).

    Is anyone slightly annoyed by the double use of "star" in the title?

    Call it "Starfighter" or do the anthology thing and go "Starfighter: A Star Wars Story" so we can all drop the rest of it in normal parlance, like Solo and Rogue One.

    But "Star Wars: Starfighter" sounds like a fan film. It is an inelegant word smash.

    It does kind of feel like "well we are doing a pilot movie to replace the stalled out Rogue Squadron, but we don't want to use 'Rogue Squadron' unless it does actually happen...call it something generic and we'll figure out a cool name later...

    ...and later never arrived.

    ...how about "Dark Starfighter"?

    I would have suggested "Shadow Starfighter", but the new Maul series took Shadow this year.

    (shrugs) “Star Wars: Starfighter” has been a game series title for almost 25 years. So it doesn’t really sound strange to me. We got used to “The Phantom Menace” in that time span, and “Starfighter” was far less awkward to begin with than that ;).

    I mean you still get the double star that way. But I feel most people will just call it Starfighter, unless you're one of those who always says Star Wars: Darth Bane: Path of Destruction: A Novel of the Old Republic in full.
