Don't let that stop you- I'm awesome at turtling until I'm ultimately overwhelmed, and suck at rushing people, and I still love the original game ;)

(then again, when it comes to multiplayer, I'm often bad at the games I love and awesome at the games I dislike 8-}, -with exception to GoldenEye ;))

Same with me, especially with SC. I love it to death but I'm usually awful when it comes to multiplayer. :p

Just played the first few missions. So far so good. :)

Edit: And I love the Raynor notepad that comes with the game.

It came with a few Guest Passes to the game. 7 hours of playtime or 14 days whichever comes first. If you want one I can PM you the code. It's well worth it.

My first impressions: Everything is near perfection. The opening missions have a heavy "Firefly" vibe that I love and that quickly makes room for some BSG type moments as the game progresses. It's like they've taken every bit of outer space sci-fi that I love and combined it. I'm playing on Normal right now and the game is ridiculously easy. I may start fiddling with the difficulty meter soon if it doesn't ramp up.

    Sure that'd be great. :D I take it it's a big download?

    PM sent!

I don't know how big the download is. The DVD install was just under 8 GB. But I doubt the trial is that size.

    Awesome thanks!

I hope it's not too big. The monthly caps here are killing me. [face_frustrated]

Under 8 GB? Mine said 12.....oh well the point is you need a lot of hard drive space. :p

I love the music, especially for the menu which has a SW/Matrix type feel to it. And I just played the space shooter minigame appropriately titled "Lost Viking."

I don't remember the exact number. That's just the size of my Starcraft II folder. *shrug*

If anyone else has a guest pass they wouldn't mind sharing with me, I would appreciate it. I would definitley like to try out the game a bit before purchasing it. Would you say the gameplay is closer to the Command & Conquer type of games or the Age of Empire series?

3 missions in now- so far, so good. The first few missions do have that Firefly vibe, but the actual mission types are reminiscent of the original game's campaign too, but new variety is slowly being introduced.

I had to get an extra GB of RAM for this computer to run this thing, and even then, on low settings, the computer hits some snags (an occasional Max Headrone effect to the dialogue, etc). But then, this vista computer was never bought with the intention of playing games on it ;).

I'll PM you one. It shipped with two and most of my friends bought the game anyway.

It's ... hmm. Closer to C&C, I'd say, but my memories of both game series are a bit fuzzy after all these years.

starcraft isn't exactly like CC or AOE, it's more like warcraft, since, ya know, made by the same people and all that.

It's much closer to Age of Empires than C&C. You gather multiple resources and build buildings and recruit units the same way.

Thanks to everyone that helped to clarify whether Starcraft 2 is closer to the Command & Conquer or Age of Empires styles of gameplay. Big thanks to DarthXan318 for the StarCraft 2 guest pass - I really appreciate it.

Played a couple multiplayer matches with a friend against 2 AI. As usual, we lost big the first time and won big the next ;).

I lovvve the Thor units (and so much fun to quote!). Also got to make a protoss Mothership and use the blackhole weapon, but it didn't seem to destroy the units that it hit, just take them out of the battle briefly. That was a bit dissapointing.

I hate to jump on the guest pass request train, but I really want to test this game out before I think about buying. It would be considerably easier for a lot of people if Blizzard released a demo, but to them, time spent making a demo could rather be used to further fine-tune the game instead, which I understand. Thanks in advance! [face_peace]

Starting the final mission of Starcraft II now. The game has been pretty epic so far. And I'm definitely going to have to go back and turn up the difficulty setting and try to get achievements; I played through on normal for the story, but the achievements are taunting me.

I'm torn between massing Thors or massing air in single player. Once the big ships are available, damn.

During one allied game I went with both :D. My friend got the bunkers, marines, turrets and tanks going, I got the air and Thors going. It's very hard to stop 5 Thors backed by 6 Battlecruisers and several fightercraft. Even harder when their backed by dozens of allied siege tanks and who-knows-how-many troops.

The Helions are also a significant improvement over the somewhat useless Vultures from SC1.

I dig the bar/cruiser between-mission levels- adds a semi-adventure game type feel to things, exploring new details and such. I kinda wish they had enhanced those to include 1 or 2 adventure game-like puzzles to work out to unlock the next mission (might piss off hardcore RTSers who just want the next level, but I think it would have been a more satisfying experience).

If you watched any of the competitive Brood War games you'd know that Vultures were far from useless ;)

I haven't but while the spider mines were useful at times, it always seemd to me that Vultures, even in large numbers, just get slaughtered quite easily by the enemy. Their speed was good for recon, though. But I'd rather waste an SCV.

Nah, I'm fine with things as-is. The handful of "guide the hero" missions made for enough of a change of pace.

The end of the game shocked me a little: Blizzard gave us a happy ending. Now, it's not happily ever after by any means, and obviously Kerrigan seems likely to be the primary protagonist in the Zerg based Heart of the Swarm, but I assume it'll be Kerrigan as a slightly infested human, not as the Evil Queen of Blades. I'm also kind of hoping that in the eventual Starcraft MMO, Jim Raynor is neutral to everyone, willing to work with human, zerg or protoss for the greater good.

Please don't say such things. I wish my Starcraft to stay MMO free. :( Besides, as long as WoW is still top dog, I see no reason that Blizzard would want to cannibalize their own customer base.

OMG I KNOW. Tychus' betrayal came as no surprise - I figured he was going to do something like that - but I was waiting for the part where Kerrigan jumps up and stabs Raynor through the heart and it never happened! It actually worked! My mind, it is blown.

I'm hoping for no Starcraft MMO, too. Frankly I like not having to raid every week.
