Unfortunately it said I FAILED because of my video card!!

 

lemme put it this way... i've got a five year old computer that can run it. not the bigger multiplayer maps, but the campaign and against the AI it's fine. if that's what you want, you're good.

and actually, the game itself'll tell you if you can run it or not. i "failed" due to my processor not being up to snuff, yet i can still play. just drop the graphics and you'll be fine.

Blizzard Confirms StarCraft II Overheating Bug

Anyone else have StarCraft II try to melt their hardware? Blizzard admits that it's a known issue and has a fix for you.

Apparently, the game's menu screens aren't framerate-limited. This means that when there's nothing else going on, your graphics hardware renders the bejeezus out of those screens, causing nasty overheating problems. The fix is easy, requiring players to add the following lines to your "Documents\StarCraft II\variables.txt" file (nice catch, commenter LegolElf):

frameratecapglue=30
frameratecap=60

 

i was wondering why the menus were so freaking slow

 

I haven't had any issues myself but any sentence with the words "melt" and "hardware" will convince me to take precautions.

 

yea, really. i had noticed that it got kinda hot on those screens. but my computer's normally kinda hot anyway, so didn't think much of it.

Got this on Friday, and finished the campaign today - really enjoyed it, especially the ending. Will be interesting to see the Zerg campaign after this however.

Been throwing myself into multiplayer, starting to have a bit of luck with a Marines/Marauders strat, although I keep getting rushed and gutted early in games.

 

All In + Brutal + Victory = Straight white male dancing.

 

Oh my god, tell me about it. Most of my troops were wrecked and a horde of zerglings were barreling toward the artifact when I activated it. Definitely a back from the brink victory.

 

I haven't even beat it on Hard yet. I can't imagine what Brutal is like.

What's the crazy achievement you can get again? Using the artifact only once on hard or something?

I'm playing as zerg and have come up with a few effective strategies. I'm doing pretty decent, floating at right around .500, though I am in the bronze league. I'm assuming my crap tactics won't work once I move up the ladder...

 

I tried a few times. I got slaughtered initially because I've been spoiled on all the units that were in SC1 but got taken out of SC2 MP (Medics, vultures, wraiths, etc.)

 

After some early losses I've started to drag my wins/losses up to around 50/50. I'm vulnerable to rushes, but if the game goes into a macro situation I usually come out on top (remanant from Age of Kings days). I enjoy 2v2's the most, but I keep getting paired with bads on random.

If I did that backdoor nydus worm in the second game again, would I have won? Or were you watching the entire base?

 

I spread my pylons out a little more that time, so maybe not. The first match I was expecting you to break through the destructable rocks or muta harrass my expansion so I was watching way over there.

You could have won that second match if you went for my expansion instead of trying to get up my ramp.

I cannot get enough of this game in multiplayer.

I also love 2v2 the most. My buddy and i are still in the bronze league... In the top 3 consistently but it seems like anytime we are tested to move up to a different league (suddenly our opponents become noticabely tougher for a 5 game stretch) we seem to fail.

My favourite race right now is Terran, and my favourite strat is the Banshee rush. (No one seems to be prepared for cloaked units early for some reason.)


My buddy plays Protoss.. When we get to late game we are usually unstoppable, however i just refuse to do the Marine-Marauder bio-ball early game so i seem to be susceptible there.

 

Banshee rush is brutal but it leaves you vulnerable for early rushes because it's tech intensive. You have to have a solid wall-in and at least 3 Marauders to make it work, imo. The MMM strategy is the most basic but also quite versatile strategy, at least in the lower tiers.

So last night I tried for the "Beat 7 Insane AI" achievement on custom game. Good times with the Protoss. Cannon rushed my zerg base-mate, wall in the front ramp and cannon stack the ramp. Then straight to Carriers with a zingle zealot clearing out the dead zerg base for an expansion. Saw this strategy on Husky's youtube strategy and it worked the first time which is remarkable because I am a Terran player rather than protoss.

 

Yeah, that's pretty damn epic.
