Policy Statement regarding Wookieepedia

The Jedi Council Forums have always considered Wookieepedia (the internet's foremost Star Wars wiki) to be part of the family: we were there when it was first created and many of our users helped give it shape and make it grow. The last 48 hours have shown that, under its current administration, the site has become something we can no longer recognize.

As of this post, Wookieepedia is holding a vote on whether or not to continue to use the pre-transition names, or "deadnames", of transgender and nonbinary Star Wars creators. Though a majority of users support solely using transgender creators' preferred names outside of article redirects, Wookieepedia's current consensus policy means that a 2:1 vote ratio is needed for this change to be implemented. Administrators of the site appear to be trying to silence editors asking for a change, many of them members of our site.

We feel like we have an undeniable responsibility, as part of the larger fandom and as part of the group of people who made Wookieepedia become what it is today, so we've decided to take a stand. The Jedi Council Forums administration stands in solidarity with Robin Pronovost and any other Wookieepedia editors advocating for this change in policy. We also invite other fansites to join the many voices supporting this change.

As of today at 12pm EDT, links to Wookieepedia are forbidden in the Jedi Council Forums and will be automatically blocked. Attempts to curtail this prohibition will be treated as any other breach of policy. This is an indefinite measure that will be re-evaluated as the situation evolves.
