System Lords: Hyperspace

It is a time of enlightenment for the galaxy. Scouting parties from numerous worlds have found the remnants of ancient technology, and in doing so, have discovered the technology which grants them access to a dimension allowing for faster than light travel, known colloquially as hyperspace.

The discovery of this new dimension has resulted in a scramble for territory, as hundreds of different worlds struggle to assert their dominance over the galaxy. Numerous wars ravage the galaxy, aided by the development of highly advanced weaponry.

As hundreds of fledgling Empires fight over the newly opened galaxy, and the technological marvels found within it, a deeper threat, a great evil, is about to reveal itself, the only thing standing in its way is a small group of individuals, planetary officials, warriors and diplomats.

The System Lords.

***

Cast your mind back 30,000 years before everything you know of Star Wars. As a result of this early time period, there are a certain number of things you must remember:

? The Jedi, and the Sith, are still in combat on their ancient homeworld of Tython, and as such are yet to emerge into the galaxy at large, whilst force sensitive do exist all over the galaxy, they are untrained, and do not feature in this game except as NPCs

? There are no navicomputers, hyperspace travel is made possible through co-ordinates downloaded directly into a ships hyperdrive, provided by space stations, and beacons.

? Technology is very limited in this period, there is No Hypercomm, No Super Star Destroyers, and certainly No Death Stars. See below for other important notes on technology.

? High Energy projectile weapons are extremely rare, the weaponisation of light, in the form of lasers, is currently being researched, but is yet to produce economical results, and needs much further study. As a result slugthrowers are in widespread use.

? This is also true of ship based weaponry, instead of Turbolasers, ship to ship weaponry takes the form of huge cannons, and heat seeking missiles (similar to the weaponry found on modern day battle ships.)

? During this time galactic communication rely on Couriers, as well as subspace transmissions - think the wired (and wireless) communication of Galactica and Pegasus, in Battlestar Galactica, for example - they can communicate within a certain distance, but over so far a distance they need a Raptor courier, and often have face to face meetings.

? There are no medical miracle cures ? that means no to Bacta and Kolto, once your injured, you survive the hard way

Rules:

1. I am the GM, my world is law. You may feel that I am harsh at time, as I have been in the past System Lords games; however there is something that you must remember ? Everything happens for a reason.
2. Character Sheets must be PM?d to me for approval, no exceptions.
3. All players must be dedicated to the game. I have no wish to plan out a story for a player who will drop out of the game after a matter of days. System Lords has traditionally taken a long time to see its course, I feel that this game will be no different.

_____________

?Technology?

As I stated above, there are obvious differences in technology. This is a primitive age for the galaxy, and as such, technology is limited. Each starting planet comes with a single advanced technology, e.g. Experimental Laser Weaponry, Reinforced Hulls etc, as well as a standard ship design. There is no Kuat Drive Yards, Incom Corporation or Sienar Fleet Systems, ships are built in 8 classes ? Snubfighter, Patrol Craft, Frigate, Destroyer, Battleship, Dreadnaught, Cruiser and Carrier. The ?Class? designation (e.g. ?Victory? Class Star Destroyer etc) for these ships will be left for you, the players, to decide, as will the design of the ship - feel free to get creative, and post images if you wish.

Technology will also be found on planets you discover, that can greatly benefit your Empire, this technology can be gained through diplomatic or military means.

-Bonus: 10 tonnes of Lidium produced every turn*
-Starting Technology: Advanced Recon craft, allowing for planetary Scout reports to be produced twice as fast

Race: Bothan

Age: 30

Gender: Male

[link=http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/0/03/BothanNEGAS.jpg]Appearance:[/link]
Like most Bothans Korwin is has many canine, feline, and equine features. His coat is a light brown with dark Brown eyes. Among his race Korwin is dashing and handsome, but not the dream man for any Bothan woman. Korwin often wears two suits in public that contrast between colors. One is red, silver, tan, gold, brown, and maroon; the other is blue, black, Green, teal, and Silver. When he is not making scheduled appearances, Korwin often wears clothes that let him have easy movement. No matter what he is wearing Korwin will always having a Hold-out blaster strapped somewhere out of sight. When on mission he will often use a cane that has a concealed Vibroblade inside.

Personality:
For the most part, Korwin is an even-tempered, levelheaded Politician. He?s capable of keeping calm during stressful situations, though he does have a tendency to be a little pessimistic when the pressure starts to get to him. His pessimism tends to surface in the form of dry sarcasm or frantic remarks about the situation. His humor in general tends to be sarcastic, though he does know when to laugh, having a good sense of humor. For the most part, however, he?s the thoughtful sort, with a stubborn sense of determination, despite danger he may face. He also has a strong curious streak, and likes to find out answers.

He?s a bright man with a quick mind, but despite the confidence he tends to have in himself, in the department of taking care of others on a personal level, he feels he?s a failure. He doesn?t like taking the lead over anyone but himself.

History:
Born to loving homes on Bothawui to parents that loved him unconditionally. Bothans are known to be master politicians or spies. Korwin happily gained, flourished, and embraced that trait to its fullest. His parents taught him wrong from right, not to steal or be power hungry, evil, or ally with greed. Using what his parents taught him Korwin left for schooling, where he learned diplomatic skills, and other great attributes that adapted to Korwin?s personality. In his schooling, a teacher spent special attention to the young Bothan. The teacher made him what he is today, successful and a rising Politician, and later, Korwin dreamed, King. His parents taught their son to be a pacifist; Korwin knew he would have to fight one way or another. This resulted in master-apprentice training, that wasn?t based on politics. Blaster use, Sword use, Piloting, and how to be aggressive and to fight for what he needed. The teacher also told him not to go kill for resources, but to be civil and not to pick unnecessary fights.

Soon, after long study hours and many tests, Kowin graduated and became a Politian. He wanted to become a senator, Governor, or ambassador to a planet. For a while he had no luck, but built strong connection within the senate and other allies embracing the rapid technology spur. Those connections got him some allies in high places. For a while he worked as an ambassador for his home planet then traveling place to place seeking political statues. Many told him he could run for election and forge votes and trick the people. Korwin never considered it and left the planet. Instead the young Bothan went to a well off planet to run for election.

Name: His Royal Highness, King Sair Berus of Corellia
Race: Human
Age: 45
Gender: Male
Appearance: Tall, handsome, regal. Always well dressed.
Bio: Up until his fifteenth birthday Sair was, to be perfectly honest, spoilt rotten. He learned from a very young age that being the Heir Apparent to the throne of Corellia meant he basically got whatever he wanted, and he took full advantage of that fact.
That all changed when his parents, the King and Queen of Corellia, sent him to a military school far from the comforts and delights of Coronet. He discovered, much to his chagrin, that trying to invoke his ?royal rights? with a Sergeant Major wouldn?t work like it did with his tutors at the palace.
At the completion of his training he began a Tour of Duty with the Navy under an assumed name, eventually rising the rank of Commander and earning the post of First Officer on a Dyrim class cruiser before he was called home to begin his royal training.
Though less physically demanding Sair found the preparation for his eventual ascent to the throne equally difficult. He was continually drilled in etiquette and royal mannerism until they came as easily to him as breathing. He studied law and philosophy with the greatest minds on the planet, as well as politics and military strategy.
As a result of all his training, Sair was still totally unprepared to lead his people when his father died. But then what ruler truly is? He?s done the best he could over the last 6 years and he seems to be doing well enough. Only time will tell if he will lead his people to glory or ruin. Just don?t tell him the odds.......

Appearance: A flamboyant personality, dressed in hand-woven silks and with groomed hair, a kind of madness in his eyes is evident.
Bio: Secta Gaan was born on Coruscant, the old birthworld of humanity, the descendant of some religious nobility - believers in Alderaan, the Goddess of Nature and Peace. At this time the Cult of Alderaan is going through pains, as the other religions of Coruscant, those who follow Kuat, the God of War, for example, have been seeking to destroy all opposition to the tyrant Rakata back on Coruscant - they cannot find their new masters, but they can certainly fight each other. And so the Cult of Alderaan has been crushed, and many of its members turned to warfare, secretly constructing warships in the system. Secta was one of those radicals, but a jump accidently crashed Secta on Alderaan, homeworld of the Killiks. Joining their Nest - the Oroboro - Secta's mind fractured, and he resurfaced as the leader of a new kingdom - a Killik kingdom - determined to bring Nature and Peace to the galaxy in his own way.

Bio: Brandle is the son of a prominent planetary leader on Brentall IV. He grew up on his family?s estate, spending countless hours at the hands of numerous tutors being steeped in history, military tactics, diplomacy, with survey studies in engineering, medicine, geology, math, and psychology. His father dreamed that His sons would carry on the family?s tradition of military and political service to the people of Brentall IV. Brandle and his younger brothers shared this desire, instilled by their father with his many tales of the glories of their family?s numberless years of service to their people. Brandle is the oldest son and was discovered early to be unusually brilliant. Combined with his family?s influence, he moved quickly through the ranks of power. As a final favor to his retiring father, the then current head of Brentall IV made Brandle his second. Brandle was personally tutored in matters of state under his father?s friend. Recently, the discovery of hyperspace has generated a mixture of sensation and panic in the people of Brentall IV. Some were overcome with excitement at the possibility of Galactic Community; forming connections with other worlds, encountering new cultures, and gaining new technologies. Another group was processed by fears of apocalyptic forces coming down upon Brentall IV, led to the planet by these new hyperspace scouts. Driven by fear and terror, they quickly militarized. Upon the head of state?s announcement of his intentions to begin explorations, they plotted and successfully executed an assassination. Brandle quickly took control of the government, tracked down and arrested the perpetrators. He plans to continue with the plans laid out by his predecessor and mentor. Brentall IV will begin explorations, it will expand, and it will build an empire worthy of its people, as Brandle will be worthy of his family.

Cathis Orbit

IC: ???, Methra Juntael

A grey armoured figure stood, alone, atop the command spire of a ship the size the galaxy has never seen. 25 kilometres from aft to stern, and 8 from port to starboard, it truly was an engineering marvel. The figure smiled, and lifted a communication device from the console infront of him, ready to watch the spectacle about to unfold.

Far below the rocky surface of Cathis, deep underground, in a single pit amongst a honeycomb of archaeological dig sites, Methra Juntael scraped his trowel over the hard rock. The incessant monotonous sound of the metal against the rock drilled into him, instilling his failures as an archaeologist into his brain. Scrape, Scrape, Scrape. Fail, fail, fail. Scrape, Scrape, Scrape. Fail, fail, fail. Scrape, Scrape, Scrape. Fail, fail, fail. Scrape, Scrape, Clunk. The monotony was broken all of a sudden, with a different sound. A screech. The sound of metal upon metal. The different sound jolted Methra out of his trance. This could be his time to sign, he could have found something! Excitement rose within him, as he began to scrape away the rock and dirt surrounding his find. Soon a pyramidal structure was discovered, made of a white metal that Methra had never encountered before. The archaeologist working in the pit next to him turned, to face him, ?Whatcha go-? he began, before being cut off by another voice, this one much more sinister. ?Methra.? The voice wheezed. ?The boss wants a word.?

Beginning to step out of the pit, Methra tripped over the tip of his find, and shattered it. ?Son of a bitch!? Methra swore, and turned to the source of the sinister voice, a man clothed in a hooded cloak. ?Look what you made me d-? He began, before feeling something on his skin. A light breeze, freezing cold air. As the hair on the back of his neck stood up, Methra shivered, and as the wind began to pick up, turned around. There were no words to describe what Methra saw, and as the wind increased, and the air became clouded with dust, a bright light appeared in the center of the swarm, forming into a sphere of energy, hovering meters above the ground. Methra stared at the ball, watched as the sphere grew in size, multiplying, before rapidly expanding outwards, at tremendous speed, engulfing, and destroying, everything it touched, never realizing that it would be the last thing he ever saw.

In the planets orbit, aboard the ship orbiting far overhead, the cloaked figure smiled. The technology had been found, and appeared to work without hinderance. A laugh escaped his throat, deep and hysterical, ringing through the empty corridors of the ship, into deep space, reaching worlds far, far away...

With a scowl, Secta glared at the Oroboro before him. "Direct our Lizil-class Destroyer in orbit to destroy the intruding object. Either way, we're pulling out."

What a wonderful beginning to our day, thought Secta. Gathering his papers - a necessity for his shattered sanity to continue - Secta nodded as Oroboro began gathering together his few effects. With a mental nod, he began issuing orders to the Killiks, knowing they relay the orders to the artisans and builders. Designs filled his mind, concepts created by the Killiks in response to contact with his downed vessel - the destroyer in orbit showed what skill they had to learn.

"We want a battalion of Oroboro gathered, and two shuttles created. Construct eight fighter craft, and four bombers. Then, we need ten planetary defence batteries and nine anti-starfighter batteries created. It is clear the Nest is under attack." Secta was thinking about defence, because the Killiks were, but a good offense, in his experience was a good attack.

Alderaan... she would understand. She hadn't struck him down yet.

"We require the ability to feed our nest, to protect our spawn... begin construction of two patrol craft, Oroboro." Secta began painting images in his mind, and knew they would respond. Secta, content his objects were safe, fled with the Killiks from the government hut, formed from spitcrete, atypically, but there were a great deal of natural resources on Alderaan - they just hadn't the sentience to use them. Food, mind you, that was consistently lacking.

Sair Baris, Corellia

?A valid fear General, and one we shall have to address sooner rather than later.? Sair pulled a file out of a drawer and removed a single sheet of flimsy which he quickly signed before sliding across the desk to his chief military advisor.
?As much as I despise the thought, I have to agree that the most likely explanation for the scans would be an attack. I?ve just authorised the increase to your budget you?ve been begging for, I want you to build me a military worthy of Corellia. There?s also a provision for military research, I expect the first priority to be completing the Orannis Project. After that you may use it as you see fit. Dismissed General.?
After general Malned had departed Sair called for his next guest to be sent in. Three of them in fact.
?Gentlemen,? he smiled as they entered his office, ?please, have a seat.?
?My liege, what can we do for King and Country today??
?Nothing terribly exciting today captain Solo. I?d like you and your men to do a little exploring for me.?
?Dangerous?? The cocky mercenary asked.
?Possibly,? Sair replied as he pushed a sheet of flimsy to the trio. ?And also highly paid. With a not so modest compassion bonus for your family or other nominated party should one of you die.?

Supreme Commander Vellum listened to Lord Governor Majnark's concerns without interrupting. He already had plans to deal with these terrorist, but he thought it better to let the Lord Governor finish.

"I assure you there is nothing to worry about Lord Governor Majnark. Before you arrived I contacted General Disra, the head of special forces training and I have given him 500 credits to train an infantry company as special forces unit, this unit will then be assigned to track down and neutralize these terrorist. I have also contacted Admiral Larson, and instructed him to assist our ground forces in any way he can with this situation. Whether that be through transportation, air support, or reconnaissance. I sincerely hope this calms any nervousness you may have. If there is nothing else you wish to address then I would like to retire into my office."

The supreme stood up from his seat, and walked down the hall and into his office, once there he commed his intelligence headquarters.

"Hello, intelligence officer Jaqson? I need you to find me two freelancers willing to explore other regions for me. Tell them they will be compensated if they find something of interest to me, otherwise they will only be reimbursed for their fuel...Yes, that will be all. Good day Officer Jaqson."

Name: Orinoco Caledonia

System: Taris
Income: 2250
Bonus: High Income due to Trade Routes
Starting Technology: Advanced Engine Upgrades given to all ground units, increasing speed by 50%

Race: Human

Age: 42

Gender: male

Appearance: Black hair, green eyes, strong build, six feet tall, he is silent when he walks terrifying many people, he is an imposing figure, a scar runs from his right cheek to his right ear from a bullet that was shot at him on a mission.

Bio: Orinoco Caledonia ran off to join the army at a young age. He worked his way up the ranks by hard work, a brilliant military mind, and a ruthless determination to get the job done. He quickly became dissatisfied with the current planetary leader. He secretly began to undermine the current leader while at the same time gathering followers. When the time came, he gained the seat of power. The military take over was mostly bloodless. The administrator was old and fat, preoccupied with the endless pleasures at his disposal as planetary leader. As a result, he and his security forces were unprepared for an internal revolt. Caledonia and his men stormed the administrator?s private chambers, executed him, and displayed the man?s bloated corpse for all to see. Caledonia declared himself dictator. His one goal in life is to build the biggest empire, and to have the worlds and their people be the best, the most powerful, they can be.
________________________________________________________________________

AS Orinoco gazed out upon the capital city of Tairs where the main government officials are located, his mind fought over whether or not killing the previous planetary leader was such a good idea. There are still a few riots going on in the rich district, it pained him greatly to see buildings and civilians burn and die. The lower and middle classes don't care, or that was the impression Orinoco got from the reports of how his planet is doing. The upper classes are rioting because the previous fat, spoiled, and lazy administrator gave good tax payer money to them no doubt.
Sighing, he turned his back to the breath taking view over the city, and pushed a button on his desk and sat down. A few minuets later his secritary walked in.
"Sir"?
"Put an order for to start training an Infantry Battalion, a Patrol Vessel , ten Anti-Fighter Defense Turrets, and twelve Fighters
"Isn't that a bit?"
"A bit, dismised."
Orinoco stood back up to stare out the window, thinking, as his female secritary walked out the door. What is this planet coming to, Orinoco thought.

Expect an update Tomorrow or Monday.

To respond to the few OOCs, and some common PM questions, and some minor uissues.

Scouting - Please Name the planets you want scouted, there are over 50,000 in the Star Wars universe, and Wookiepedia can certainly help you find one to your standing.
Special Forces Companies - to train a standard Infantry Company (100 men) to Special Forces costs 500.
Capturing Enemy Ships - This is not possible.

Hope this helps :)

Korwin sat tapping his nails on the table, ?Greetings Mister Juk?are, it?s a pleasure to meet you?. He remembered reports about riots, and then recalled that the taxes, from the last Governor, were never changed when he was granted power. Korwin wanted to become King, but that would take time. Until then he had to make his citizens happy. Korwin got out of his chair and looked out the window then turned his back to Alzeri. For a few minutes, he thought about what he could do; then he formed a plan. Korwin was the type of person to research everything and plan his actions to the last detail.

?Okay, I am going to lower the Taxes from three thousand credits to one thousand three hundred. No food tax; but eight percent tax on any other purchase except food, besides services. I'll Deploy military forces where the majority of riots are, we will see what happens from there,? Korwin told Alzeri, taking another minute to think. ?Do you have any conclusions on what else might be causing the riots??

Korwin went back to his chair and took a seat, waiting for an answer. He wanted to have a good public image, especially if he were to run for King. He often wondered if he should dictate. Korwin also decided not to, dictation would result to imperialism. Being an Emperor was not what he had in mind, only King. Were they the same thing? Korwin did not think so, he was not to be seen as someone who has taken a grip of power and used it to conquer. Then again, he could rule the galaxy. Korwin quickly shook that thought out of his brain. Trying to take over the Galaxy would be too much of work. Korwin hated corruption, and tried very hard not to become corrupt.

He was going through numbers. As he always did. Endless lines of numbers that showed him everything. Every detail and every secret his economy, military or planet had to offer. But in truth he waited. For their production to arrive and their explorers to return. The galaxy had become such a huge playgound, suddenly. He was so eager to find the other players.
?Magistrate.? Siea Niev greeted him. ?I wish you well. And bring great news. We have found another cache of technology. We are yet to decode it, but think we have found something remarkably interesting. Please, follow me.? He looked up. Another cache? "Another cache?" His mouth repeated his question. "Lead the way." He smiled.

The Cerulean Palace, Foerost

A map of the known galaxy hung in the air, and the planets were just so many meaningless dots to young Caden II. Sitting here, upon this throne, so detached from his people and his land, nothing seemed particularly important. Poverty was as trivial as a missed point when playing hoverball in the Royal Courts, and even his personal Destroyer (the Andrea, named for his late mother) seemed to be no more significant than the modified swoop in which he would race around the Palace grounds.

Which was why it always came as a particular shock when reminders of reality came barging in, as they tended to do every now and again.

Theoren, his faithful servant, had shown him the latest results of their explorations- a dull, dry rock, uninteresting and uninhabitable. And then holos of the people of Foerost, starving and begging for food, thieving from each other and slaving away for work which paid out in scraps.

"My people will have to trust in me," said Caden quietly. "This world cannot sustain itself. To bring prosperity to our lands, we need other worlds to feed upon. Send explorers to Kuar, Koros and Kaikielius. If their discoveries please me, our armies will follow."

Standing behind the throne, the imposing armoured figure of General Branthus nodded approvingly.

Brandle Jem, planetary leader, rule of Brentaal IV, stood staring into the mirror. Outside the crowd was gathering, blending into one entity with one voice which penetrated the thick walls and reached into the tiny room.

Breathe in????.Breathe out???Breathe in???..Breathe out

Was this really happening? Brandle?s mind cast back over the previous weeks. It had all happened so fast. The assassination, his emergency ascension, the investigation, the arrests. He was not yet sure what to do with the perpetrators...have them executed, or????he was not sure what else. He had tried speaking with them, to persuade the captured militants exploration was not the suicidal course they thought it to be. It had done no good, none at all. There was no reasoning with them. There were no reasons for what they did. They were like animals driven by fear, ruled by it. They could not understand because they did not want to. They looked up at the stars at night and instead of seeing a future filled with promise, as Brandle did, they simply saw a great darkness filled with unknown monsters, powers beyond even the imagination of the meager citizens of Brentaal IV.

Breathe in??.Breathe out??

He ran some water and splashed in on his face. He set his hands back down on the sink and looked again into the mirror and sighed.

Fear??.it was not those nameless, faceless monsters out in the stellar dark which were Brentaal IV?s greatest enemy. It was fear. It was fear which drove these militants, fear which drove them to assassinate Brandle?s predecessor, and it was fear which rippled through the people of Brentaal IV.

He looked at himself. I?m getting old. His once energetic black hair was slowly fading to a more gray color. White had begun to creep in around the edges. It gave him dignity, and honor, and reminded him he was no longer a younger man.

Brandle turned from the mirror. He walked into the temporary quarters his security had set up for him and sat on the bed. It was a nice room, tasteful paint job, ornate gold trimming around the door and windows, and hand-carved furniture finishing out the room.

A knock came at the door.

?Who is it?? Brandle asked.

?Me, Darsha. Open up.?

It was Darsha, Brandle?s brother. The man was a diplomat to the bone, loved to talk and talk without really saying anything. They were never close growing up due to their completely disassociated personalities. They respected each other however. He walked into the room.

?They are waiting for you.?

Brandle nodded and stood up.

?I don?t like this.? Darsha continued, ?It is too soon. Our security is not sure we have rounded up all of the militants. These people are smart Brandle, they got your predecessor and they could get you. All it would take is one on some building somewhere in this blasted city within three to four miles with a sniper rifle to take you down. This scares me, Brother. Why are you risking your life on a speech? We can?t secure every roof, every window, and every person in this city. What makes you think this is worth the risk??

Brandle looked at his brother. It was nice to have someone he could trust. Even though the militants were dangerous, the really nice thing about it was the simplistic methods they used. It was us and them. They did not try and infiltrate the government, try and plant spies within his trusted circle to end his administration with a knife. They instigated a revolt. Us and them, with guns and bullets. No subtlety, or stealth.

?Because they are people, Darsha and I know people. They need to know things are under control, they need to know they are safe. They can become the greatest people in the Galaxy. With our position and the right leadership, they can be the first and foremost of the peoples of this Galaxy. And besides?.?

He moved aside his collar to show the bullet proof armor he wore underneath his suit.

?I am hardly stupid. I am taking precautions.?

Darsha shook his head.

?That is no guarantee and you know it.

Emperor Ssarmn, figurehead of the House Ssarmn and ruler of the planet Falleen, sat upon his throne in the Imperial City. His gaze swept over the subjects in attendance, two of the most prominent being General Xen?drik and Admiral Q'barra.

With a wave of his hand the Emperor dismissed all but the two highest ranking members of his court, and when they were finally alone he addressed them. "My House has a firm hold upon the planet, but the people will not be happy with that for long." The gaze from the intimidating Emperor moved to Admiral Q'barra, "Admiral, I task you with finding new planets to bring under the wing of my budding Empire."

He looked upon his General next, "General Xen'drik for now you are to raise an army and build our planetary defenses. I will not be caught unprepared if our enemies decide to come knocking."

As the Admiral and General mummered their understanding the Emperor looked at them only for a moment more, "What are you waiting for? You have your orders, move." As his two most best military minds bowed and left the room, Emperor Ssarmn grinned, his sharp teeth showing just below his lip. "Soon the Falleen will be feared throughout the region, and Emperor Ssarmn will rule with impunity."
