Of course noones raised the issue of how he was such a great martial expert when he let himself get hit with a broom by a little kid.

If someone hit me with a broom, I would've done a lot more than throw him across the room and give him a bloody nose. The teacher was showing quite a lot of restraint there.

If the dude was a gym teacher, and he was teaching in a gym, where would the poor little kid get a broom? Just curious.

The other day, I was in a shop. Some little "person", 14 at most, starts walking towards me, trying to stare me out, doing that annoying "Im singing, but only in a way to try and psych you out way". Now, I saw it as quite funny, as in raising my knee could have broken his nose. But when kids act like that, how can you expect people to leave them be?

It was after school and usually brooms are around the gym to sweep the floor at night.

I'm sure the kid will get over it. Kids these days need to stop being pussified by their parents who over-nurture them. A good thumpin is healthy for a boy that age.

    Amen to that.

I got worse things when I was a kid, but did I ever cry from it? A couple times, but that's not the point. The point is is that kids today have been coddled for too long, and they're dead meat when they enter the real world.

That kid had problems, and it's a good thing he got an ass kicking. It'll tell him to never do that again.

Spike_Spiegal you're telling me that if someone hit you on the shoulder with a broom, you would just stand there and get your ass kicked? Something seems wrong there. ?[face_plain]

Okay, I'm a black belt martial arts instructor, and let me tell you ... anyone with a black belt should have the control to handle a n00b 14-year old, one with presumably little training in fighting. It wasn't the teacher's place to punish the boy. Self defense means getting yourself out of harm's way, and putting your boot in some kid's face doesn't qualify.

Because I believe is Spare the Rod, Spoil the Child? I was punished physically as a kid, and when I was spanked for doing something wrong, you'd better believe I never did that thing again.

If this kid is smart, he'll think twice before trying to attack someone in such a way ever again.

Well if it was a 12 yrold kid Mrs_Kitty I wouldn't beat the living crap out of him and rub my foot in his face.

The teacher himself admitted he went to far. IMO that leaves arguments justiying what he did w/o a leg to stand on.

And Starfire took the words out of my mouth.

Part of being a GOOD martial artist is to have discipline and control. A GOOD martial artist would not allow themselves to get into a petty fight. A GOOD martial artist would only do as much as is needed to defend themselves, and no more. Heck, technically, most are trained to only take on a souce of danger until one can safely get away from that danger.

Both were undisciplined AND wrong. That CHILD should've never attacked like that if properly trained and that teacher should've never gotten so out of control with that child. Yes, the teacher should do enough to keep himself from being injured further, but to stand on the childs face?! I would never want to study under such as this person.

We're talking about performing a devastating martial arts move on a 12yrold child and then rubbing ones foot in their face, not spanking them JFT.

The kid made the mistake of rushing a judo master with a broom, and the kid payed for that mistake.

Yeah, the kid did pay a price for that mistake, but then again....the teacher may being paying a price himself soon because he may have went too far.

Real surprise the guy didn't Black-belt-ify-his-ass.

You all probably would have done the same if someone hit you wiht a stick.
It sounds like the kid was just showing off 'cuz he got embarrased from crying. [face_plain]

I'd say that goes a little bit beyond "showing" ...

I can show people how to head butt without actually touching them. Wrestling is obviously a bit more physically involved, but pain is always optional. We need more facts, but I don't think the teacher was justified in hurting his student (before the student went off on him).

I admit that the teacher went WAY too far, but where does a twelve year old get off attacking his teacher?
