    New Version!

this patch finally fixes the other famous bug: runtime error '9': it raised when someone score more than 100 TIEs with it's fist live. (a really hard to find bug)

I also added a cheat: 'use the force' from the begining against the TIE ordes and you will win...something
    ;-)

I don't have time to download the new version right now, I'll probably do it this weekend...

    Anyhow, what's the cheat?
By "Use the Force" do you mean not using torps?
Cuz if its like that it'll be no problem for me :)

I made it to stage six and had the executor with 50% damage before Home 1 was destroyed. This is a great game. I have it installed on my desktop computer and my notebook PC as well. What is the cheat that was added to version 2.0c and what is the save option and how do you use it? I can't wait to see what will be added in the next version if there is one.

the 'save options' option saves ... the options menu!
If you change the default keys, video mode or whatever in the options menu, choose the 'save option' and you won't have to redefine it each time you run the game.

The cheat is that you can get 100 extra lives if you 'use the force' agains the TIE waves. You will have to figure out what the heck means 'use the force'.
don't worry,I think someone will figured it out accidentally and post it in the board.

    mozhu1:

Try deleting ALL the earlier versions of BoE you have on your harddisc and reinstall the newest version. I got a similar error when I mixed some of the 1.1-files with 2.0-files.

I finished it! It was great, but hard. I defeated the Executor by doing suicide missions on it. I then used all available torpedoes to destroy the ship. There was one problem with the ending sequence though. I'm not sure if it's my computer or if it's the game. The sound goes in and out while the Executor is blowing up and same with the Death Star sequence. The version is 2.0c. Anyways this is the best fan based game I've played yet. I can't wait to see what comes out next.

There are three "bosses": a single star destroyer, two star destroyers, and the executor.

Taking out the Star Destroyers quickly is key.

As soon as the first one is within range, fire two torpedoes each at the shield generator globes. Two quad linked laser shots will finish them off. Then make sure it is destroyed before it gets in range of home one. In this game, your wingmen are much smarter than in the old X-wing v. Tie Fighter games - they will actually attack the shield generators if they haven't been destroyed, and they will fire torps at the star destroyers. They may finish it off before you're even able to reload by killing some ties.

The next point is the most important. When the next two destroyers show up, destroy the one on the left first - it lags behind the other one, but the other one is no threat to home one, which is the only ship that matters. Get rid of the SD on the left before it gets in range of home one, and home one should have little damage - I've had it be as low as 11% at the end of this level. If you go for the sucker SD that arrives at the fleet first, home one will take a beating and be up to around 60% damage by the time the second SD is down.

The executor requires 4 torps per shield generator. This is enough to destroy them without any laser shots. Get them down quickly so that any remaining wingmen will attack with their torps. If you have lives left & home one is in danger, kill yourself by ramming the bridge & get a new ship with 6 new torps.

Other than that, fly around like mad & kill every tie in sight, concentrating when possible on the ones that are in the vicinity of home one.

I've never been much of a PC gamer, but this game is fantastic! I've played this game more than I've played all of my other Star Wars videogames combined.

    If only the graphics were better. 8-}

BoE and BoY are the greatest star wars freeware game
    ever!

i dunno how to explain it but playing this game
gives me the true feeling of star wars! just like
right in the movie, right in the battle, right in
your x-wing! the TIEs, the ISDs, Executor... the
games bring star wars into real life! firing,
crashing, targeting, dodging, blasting... give us
the feel of a fast space battle!! and the dialogue!
it makes me feel really taking part in the epic
battle! oh my god u know i play both games everyday
    now!

my best try in BoE is at the beginning of stage6 then
home1 blows up, while my best try in BoY is in the
middle of stage5... the distance counter at about
    3xxxx i guess....

well conclusion: for a freeware, it is really perfect!
thz all who bring these wonderful pieces to star wars
    fans. keep going!

I have a question for you users of both the Battle of Endor and Battle of Yavin games. I'm having a heck of a time trying to play them on my PC. Based on previous feedback, I adjusted my video image to 32 bit. Now, the game looks like it wants to load, but before it fires up, I get hit with a pop-up box that reads:"TrueVision3D Error: The device has not been created" message. After hitting the space bar, another box reads "Run-time error '91': Object variable or With block variable not set."

Now, both the Battle of Endor and Battle of Yavin games are the latest available from TFN. Oddly enough, I must also have had an older version (1.1 I think) of the Battle of Endor, so I loaded that up after I received the series of errors, just to see what would happen. Well, the new versions of the games still acted the same, but the old Battle of Endor did start to run but the image of the opening screen was shrunken down to a small box in the upper-left corner of the screen. The music kept playing, and the game actually started up (with a proper full-size screen) when I hit the space bar. (I was just randomly hitting keys at the time because the little image in the corner was too small to even read. I tried to take a screen shot, but it wouldn't take for some reason.)

Here are the specs on my machine if that would help with the troubleshooting:

    > Compaq Presario 5868
    > Windows Me
    > ADM Processor: ADM-K7 600 MHz
    > 128 MB RAM

I have also downloaded the latest version of DirectX. Any ideas guys and gals?

    I have the same problem...
"TrueVision3D Error: The device has not been created" message. After hitting the space bar, another box reads "Run-time error '91': Object variable or With block variable not set."

I have Windows Me too... Is that the problem? I have never played the game before :(

Does this game really works on Windows Me?

I've another problem with this game. Always when i try to execute it (BOE v2.0c BOY v1.0) the loading screen comes up and then nothing happens...

    i've tryed it on 3 pc's

2 with win98 (directx8.1/directx9.0b); one with winxp (directx9.0b) and it only worked with the winxp computer

so does this game really work with win98????

Ok, for those of us that cannot figure out this 'use the force' cheat thing, what is the cheat for this endor game and are there any for the Yavin game? Thanks!

Bythe way - these games are AWESOME!

First off: I LOVE this game! I've gotten into Stage 5, but I hit the following problem: the game will suddenly minimize, and then try to restore to full screen. It does this over and over and over, and never returns. I have to shut it down and start over...this really sucked this morning when I got to Stage 5 with all of my lives and Home One at only 5% damage!!

If it helps, here are my specs:

    - Windows XP
    - 1 GB RAM
    - 2 GHz Pentium IV
    - DirectX 9.0b
    - 128 MB GeForce IV

Please help!! :) I'm getting close, but this constant shutdown is quite frustrating.
