... but by letting them fire a giant death laser at everyone else we love".

And, also by crashing into each other so that we are injured in twisted burning metal directly in the path of gigantic walkers that will not hesitate to trample us on their way to the BBQ of all our other friends' corpses.

In this thread we celebrate the brilliantly written and delighting heroism of Rose on Crait.

If a kamikaze run (to stop another kamikaze run) is how Rose saves what she loves, imagine what it looks like when she fights what she hates?

Bold prediction: In Episode IX, Finn bites the big one and Rose goes on an all-out killing spree. She singlehandedly murders everyone who lives within First Order territory. Not just the men, but the women, and the children, too. Even the cats and dogs. Even the Ewoks. Even the Porgs. Even the Porgs.

But not the fathiers. She frees those and they run free. The slave children are also spared, so as to watch the fathiers and wish for their own freedom, freedom from a now-dead master. Rose is saltier than Crait, her heart colder than Hoth, and her rage burns hotter than Mustafar.

It's true. Nothing in any film has ever rang more true to me than when she kissed Finn at the exact moment that the giant death canon blew her friends' hiding place to atoms in the background.

There have never been more appropriate "fireworks" during a first kiss than the explosion of what she could very rightly have assumed was everyone else she loves being reduced to ash.

That is the brilliance of Rian's script. He subverted the audience's and the First Order's expectations of what the heroes would logically do. I never saw it coming.

Yes! Rian Johnson's incredible ability to Subvert Audience ExpectationsTM is brought to bear in a way that delighted us all through his mastery of timing and characterization and flawless scripting. Rose kissing Finn after risking both of their lives and leaving everyone else in harm's way is the Only Choice he could have made... and yet audiences learned that they are not nearly as logical as they may have believed themselves to be when confronted with Rian's perfect truth during that scene.

    Brilliant.

    More importantly... Delighting!
