Fair enough. But we have no idea whether the witch coven "created life," or whether a silent partner (Plagueis? Someone else?) did/assisted. Likewise we have idea if the Jedi did anything at all, other than be in the wrong place at the wrong time. We saw Torbin basically get zombie-fied by the coven--why not control the lot, set the fires, and thus frame the Jedi?

And this is not far past the THR books and comics where there are other Force organizations as part of the Convocation of The Force on Jedha. Do the Jedi really go the route of "the Force is ours and you can only use it in the way we approve". And get the Republic to pass laws to that effect.

Certainly the Jedi would only have problems with Force organizations that teach the darkside, correct? I'm sure they have no complaint for lightside organizations or non-militaristic organizations.

Clearly, even if the Coven is not evil, they do use the darkside. The debate is really over how dangerous it is to include some aspect of the darkside into one's belief system.

Some people, like the Jedi, seem to think it's always necessarily wrong and corrupting, but that isn't necessarily true.

Indara never finishes that sentence, we don't know what is illegal. It could be this specific group that is outlawed from training children, or it could be dark side cults writ large. We don't know that the Jedi have a government approved monopoly (though they might).

I think this episode is a mixed bag. It introduced some neat story twists but it could've benefitted from tighter writing and editing--it should've been 15 minutes shorter, at least. In general, I think this show, set in a yet-unexplored era in the Star Wars universe (in film/TV, anyway), could/would/should have been a great vehicle to be set up in such a way to introduce the GFFA to a new audience, but in general I think even this show relies too much on viewers' prior knowledge, and is thus too geared towards ppl who are already fans. Oh well.

    Some more thoughts:
    - It's a neat ploy to have one episode dedicated as a flashback episode (the Amazon fantasy series Carnival Row did the same thing, also in its third episode, IIRC). In this case it seems obvious that we're only getting part of the picture, so we haven't seen the last of this flashback yet. Either we're missing key information, or, alternatively, maybe they'll go full Rashomon on us. If so hopefully that works out better than it did in The Last Jedi.
    - That ritual was well-intended but ended up being, well, cringe.
    - So, those lesbian witches turned out to be really not all that lesbian... I am VERY DISAPPOINTED
    - Child actors... Well, not every child actor can be like little Leia.
    - I was one of those people who whined that Obi-Wan Kenobi looked cheap, and maintained that until I watched the show in 4k disk, and found that it looks really good on that format. So I'll try and refrain from saying that this show looks cheap, until, perhaps, I watch it on 4k disk. But meanwhile, this show looks really ch--- wait, I just said I wouldn't do that.

The twins mentioned the Boonta tree is poison. The witches dead at the end reminded me a bit of pictures from Jonestown.

Did they die from consuming the poison of the Boonta tree?

Good point. Coulda been a mass suicide pact or something. Wouldn’t put it passed them, since they already behave kinda like a cult as is.

I feel you. I’m still watching the train wreck in progress cause it’s hard to look away. I just wish my stunned gaze clicks didnt give them what they wanted/need to keep this up. One day it’ll be my turn to blink finally.

Denying that the force has a will, in specific the idea that it is something to be seized and shaped by user to create their own destiny is pretty consistently in line with darkside beliefs, and it’s particularly core for Sith philosophy. Don’t know how intentional it was but I definitely noticed.

Wait...so Mae told Osha that she was going to kill her and set fire to her room but now grown up Mae is killing the Jedi ostensibly because she blames them for the death of Osha and the coven? Lets hope something else is at play here!

There's definitely something else that the Jedi did that causes their guilt, and Mae's vengeance. Though the latter could simply be about the Jedi ruining Mae's life by recruiting Osha in the first place.

We have a completed Reva arc, but we don't have a completed Mae arc. So no, it's not like Reva until it is.

Yeah I could see Mae saying, "everything was wonder until the Jedi showed up!"

I'm confused about the distinction that Mae and Osha's mom made about how they view the Force. She says that some, the Jedi, think the Force is something to be harnessed and the witches think of the Force/Thread in a different way and everything else she says about the Thread tying and binding people and living things together echoes what Yoda said when he said this "ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us, binds us."

Then when we see Mother Aniseya using the Thread she's using it to Force push people. So...how is that different than what the Jedi do? And how are their beliefs different?

The lesbian witches killed themselves in a mass suicide? I suspect the people involved wouldn't go there.

This reminds me of some religions who strongly argue they are irremediably different than others only to then go on elaborating the same identical concepts than the other religion and demonstrating that set aside rituals prayers and names for things they have exactly the same core belief but refuse to admit it because the other religion is evil?

I mean, OF COURSE Mae is going to grow hatred and resentment towards the people who showed up and ruined her little paradise, even if it was her actions that killed everyone (more remains to be seen about that). The logic would be that if the Jedi hadn't shown up, then everything would be the same forever, which is exactly what she wanted.

I forgot to mention, I noticed the twin moons on Brendok; I assume the double O in the logo is a reference to those twin moons (as well as to the twins themselves). That's another reason why I guess we'll see more of this flashback. Or maybe, we'll return to Brendok in real time.

I find Osha's opposition to her clan's plan for her intriguing. Where and how did she learn about the Jedi to so want to go with them? Or is it her interior compass dictating what is right and wrong for her. Why would her clan, her mother, talk about the Jedi as other than a threat to their way of life. It didn't sit right.
