Mini Series The Acolyte 1.07 - Discussion Thread (Spoilers Allowed)

I’m pretty much thinking that Osha saw this entire force flashback with the helmet on.

 

I hope so. I really don't need ANOTHER retelling of that story. Twice was enough.

 

Just one more time to match TLJ!

 

Maybe we'll find out Qimir was also there, and we get to see it from his perspective.

 

Most people are presuming that, but I don't think that is necessarily the case. I think this could just be a prequel episode for the benefit of the audience, so we are up to speed when the characters discuss what happened in the finale.

 

Ep 3/7 shoulda been a proper prologue. Combined it would have been 10-15 minutes longer when either separate episode. Then we flash forward 16 years and stay in the present all the way thru. This story didn’t need a mystery plot device. Then maybe Sol confess to Mae or we see Osha remove the helmet looking angry.

 

Oh god, if we get to the finale and Sol STILL hasn't told Mae the story I'm going to jump out a window.

 

I'd like to know what they spent $180million on . They must have had the best catering.

 

Generation Tech, one of the few SW YouTubers I bother watching anymore, gives a pretty good comparison between this episode and the real-life event at Waco Texas. Certainly shines a different light on the episode and, imo, improves the episode. Still think the episode could have been executed better.

 

It wouldn't surprise me if we saw a third perspective of that day, at this point. They could have just had the Jedi's perspective flashback of episode 3 intercut with present-day Sol explaining why things happened the way they did instead of what we got.

I agree. It definitely isn't evident what it was spent on. As someone mentioned, the speeder bike moments looked better in ROTJ than they did on the show. So I'm not sure how much was spent on things like effects.

I looked again at speed biker scenes in Episode 7 and I think people are overreacting to the quality of the VFX. When Torbin takes off it look a little funny (at least it's not speed up like in ROTJ) but that's about it. Every other shot with the speed biker looks fine to me.

 

Yeah I don’t get the focus on the speeder bike scenes. They look fine. It’s just the interior of the coven set that looks like a bad episode of Farscape.

 

Could have been worse, people.

 

Love the way they just ignore that in one scene in Episode 3 Mae literally says to Osha "I'll kill you" before locking her in the room and starting the fire. That line (missing in Ep7) kinda makes a big difference, right? I mean, that's not the worst of it, but it's not quite as 'clever' a pov swap as it thinks it is. I have much more to say, going all the way back to Episode 1...just so poor on the motivations/character development. And characters are having to be so stupid at times just to getevents from one scene to another. This looks evry inch like a story-boarded 'drama'. I want this scene and this scene and this scene - now how to get from one to the other...

 

A minute of Qimir watching Sol watching the two girls in the forest. I'm not sure I have the patience to handle that!

I watched Godzilla Minus One the other night and the FX are first class, and this movie cost $15mil.

Look at the credits of the episodes. There are a lot of salaries to cover.

Every episode of The Acolyte is a special effects extravaganza; multiple exotic locations, real sets, elaborate costumes, alien makeups, and then you got things like travel benefits, insurance, marketing, etc. It goes on and on...

Godzilla Minus One has like 20 minutes of good monster effects, and a good portion of that was done with miniatures. And it was made in Japan... Japanese VFX artists are paid worse than American VFX.
