Mini Series "The Acolyte" Season 1 Discussion (Spoilers Allowed)

The more of these new trailers I see, the more I wonder why none of this was in the first trailer…

They spent $180 million on this show. Pretty sure that's way more than HBO budgets.

 

First was more of a tease really

A little less the HBO's most popular shows House of the Dragon thats 200 million.

 

Who does everyone think is under the spook mask? I haven’t been really keeping up with this show and don’t really know about any rumors.

 

Which is one of the best episodes of Star Wars TV. Ever.

I'm just amazed at the budget for this show. $180 million for an 8 episode run? That fact does make me more excited to see this but also concerned for the future. Even if this show is a success what are the chances they're gonna get the same budget for a S2? I know Andor cost more but it also had 4 more episodes with generally longer runtimes and it's done after S2. Apparently D+ is finally turning a profit according to recent news so I guess it will come down to if the show is good or not, but I still can't help but wonder if $200 million dollar seasons are sustainable.

 

I mean Rings of Power and House of the Dragon are expensive shows and they are 200 Million plus shows. So Disney plus must go in that same budget to compete. The Acolyte if a great success can get more buget like The Mandalorian was lower for season 1 then later seasons.

 

Many factors come into play when it comes to budget. $180 mil is a really good budget. But its also gonna be for 4 hours of content, Which is more than an average 2 hour, 30 minutes movie needs to deal with for $180 mil.

So there is always gonna be restrictions.

 

Disney can’t compete with Amazon.

 

Not with Rings of Power budget no.

 

Also despite many people not liking rings of power it still brought in what 65 million views? It only got beat out by Fallout but that show probably had a pretty massive budget as well.

 

And season 1 was more of an introduction season. The real story begins now. Lets see how this season gets received.

 

I can’t judge it myself as I have never watched nor read a full LOTR book or movie.

 

HOTD was 200 mil for 10 hour long episodes.
Acolyte 180 for 8 half hour long.

 

It’s not really a legend though. Palpatine is just presenting it as such because he’s manipulating Anakin.

The subtext of the scene is clearly meant to show that he’s talking about his own master. Especially the way he relishes the memory of killing Plagueis. The scene would lose a lot of its power if he’s just talking about some random Sith Lord.

Do you think it’s just a happy accident the gayest Star Wars show is coming out in June? Or do you think they did that on purpose? I honestly don’t know

 

I know. I just like the idea that Palps is actually much, much older than he seems. His life stretched out by his commitment to the dark side. So old that his master is already a matter of legend.

 

A new bunch reviews after a fan event where fans and critics watched the first half of the Acolyte. And big praise comes to Amanda Stenberg and Jin who plays Sol. And episode 3 is a big episode.

 

I’m intrigued by the helmeted Sith. Will he get a lot of screen time or very little? What’s his name?

I assume based on some of the creator’s comments that he is the current Sith apprentice who is recruiting Mae to be his acolyte to help him overthrow his master.

I’m guessing we will not see the master until season 2 as the big bad of that season.

Or we see might see him/her at the very end of season 1 when/if Mae turns on Lord Zipperface and takes his place as the apprentice.

I’m excited about all the possibilities.

 

I think we see the Master in finale few minutes. David Harewood was cast for a small role. And he has a great voice.

 

That would be great. I can imagine a scenario playing out like this: The master steps into the picture, proves he's been manipulating everything the entire season from the shadows, and encourages Mae to kill his upstart apprentice and take his place.
