I agree it is a waste, but I don’t agree she was brought back because it was off screen. Boba, Gregor, Echo, maul all died on screen and yet here we are.

 

She would have died on screen... The book is an adaptation of the scripts developed with George Lucas and written by Katie Lucas. The only reason this is a book is because Disney cancelled the show in the first place.
Guess Dave will retcon The Son of Dathomir sooner than later too, even though it was also based on the scripts developed with George. Somehow, Mother Talzin returned.

Only in Ahsoka Season 2, exclusively on Disney+!

It's really pointless to argue further if you don't see a problem with it. Yeah, it's just another disrespectful douche move by Filoni, disrespectful towards George Lucas, the guy who made Star Wars, who developed this story, who made Filoni in the first place, disrespectful towards Katie Lucas and Matt Michnovetz, who wrote the scripts for the Dark Disciple arc. Nope, Filoni says she's alive. Even though thematically and narratively it was intended to be the definitive end for her character by the people who actually developed that story. Okay, I guess. If they wanted to celebrate the character of Ventress and honor that story, they could have... faithfully adapted Dark Disciple? Oh, wait. Filoni said they won't do that, because we already have the book, the same with The Son of Dathomir. This is the reason he didn't do those stories for TCW S7, by his own admission. But these books don't matter, because Filoni chooses to mess with them on a whim. I mean, book or no book, made under George or by himself — doesn't matter. The guy made Sabine a Jedi. Everything goes

 

Filoni is literally credited as the creator of the show and its executive producer. He is also the chief creative officer at Lucasfilm. Also, anything that involves established Clone Wars characters either comes directly from him, or goes through him. And you bet that it was his call to bring Ventress back, and not Jennifer Corbett's, who probably didn't even know of the character before that, or Brad Rau's. The same reason Cody was in the show is because Filoni suggested to use him. The same reason clone commandos (a fairly niche Star Wars characters from the 2005 EU game) are in the show is because Filoni likes them and suggested to use them, and he didn't get much opportunity to use them in TCW — which he talked about a lot during TCW days.

 

I do believe Maul is a crazy half giant spider on a junk planet at this point.

Um. What? This show takes place after the clone wars I don’t know what timeline your operating on

 

In Star Wars, if a character isn’t shown explicitly dead on screen then they’re not dead. Also, if they are shown explicitly dead on screen, they’re still not dead.

 

And if they are stabbed or sliced, they are most definitely not dead. So clearly Quigon also simply lost the will to live which is the deadliest thing in Star Wars.

 

In the GFFA, employers generally don't grant workers sick days after being stabbed in the stomach because of how trivial an injury it is.

Considering Dark Disciple originally got tons of **** for gleefully stomping on Ventress and Vos' pre established histories and arcs in the Republic comic, people getting mad the same thing sorta happening to it in turn is rather funny to me.

Especially because I am completely sure BB will be more respectful to DD then DD was to the comics

 

Not the same. Lucas was pretty clear back in the day, that his SW (which included 6 films and TCW) and the EU were different worlds. Sure, people had all the right to disagree with the way the characters were used and prefer the EU version of events, but you could effectively say that TCW! Vos and TCW! Ventress lived in a separate universe from EU! Vos and EU! Ventress, and their stories weren't meant to be one and the same and the characters weren't meant to be one and the same. They were inspired by it, but nothing more. And regardless, this kind of thing was not supposed to happen under Disney, who explicitly stated that "everything is canon on the same level now", precisely so that these kind of things would not happen again.

 

While I appreciate the concern over dark disciple, which is one of the few Star Wars books I’ve read, it’s clear that Disney are never going to produce it on screen. Maybe this is their way of trying to give Ventress an on screen ending either in this or some other series ?

Anyway on the actual Bad Batch. Really pumped for this series, animation is and always will be a brilliant way of telling stories in the GFFA and I’m intrigued to see how it ends. I like that we’re getting a few weeks with multiple episodes, that’s been my main negative at points with the BB in that one episode per week isn’t always enough to satisfy me!

 

I also wonder how many people have even read dark disciples. Now I am not Saying this is the case here but I wouldn’t be supposed if at least 20% of the people complaining haven’t even read the book.
