So game mechanics question:

Player Age? Is it a factor?

If you have 2 good years for a player, but one is when he is mid 20s and the other is in his early 30s...does that factor somehow into the game? Does it affect recovery from injury? Do players suddenly retire mid-season?

It shouldn't matter, simply depends on the player's own Stamina rating. However, players can be permanently injured and/or retire or killed mid-season, but I don't think that's age-related, per se.

 

i don't know, dp has probably researched it more, but i did feel like age was the thing keeping barry bonds' insane 2004 season from translating to ootp. but i don't think it would punish someone in their early or mid-30's.

 

So, I've researched a little since a lot of times I'd be looking at the early, early players who were freaks, or general freaks.

Here's the description from the '16 version, since the later versions don't spell it out as much:

Generally, there's a bunch of posts on Reddit and other places of folks doing a lot of Lloyd-like simming and seeing no real difference for same players at varying ages but who the **** knows with the sim sometimes! One thing I'll say is that age apparently really, really matters when doing developmental leagues for getting guys out of A / AA into AAA / Majors according to the folks who play those leagues.

I've done way, way more research into CON vs. AVOID...

 

Yes. Age would matter a lot more if we were doing a full fledged minor league system.

As to on our game? I've really only seen it matter with much older guys, like the Bonds example. But then, every version of OOTP has hated that Bonds no matter where I play and what kind of league. I haven't seen it punish Satchel Paige in similar ways, but I've seen other guys, again typically 37+, lose skills and get injured more often.
