This shot really bothered me. It looks so amateurish. You can tell where the different planes are in the composite to get an artificial parallax effect. If a fan made it with their home computer, I'd say it was fantastic. For a multi million dollar production... it looks bad.

    "Artificial parallax effect"?

Kinda seems like the sort of thing 99.9999999% of the non-cinematographer-by-profession audience is neither going to notice nor care about. Therefore Abrams & Mindel probably shouldn't either.

    That shot looks great.

whole point of a good cinematographer (or any creative position really) is that they put work into literally every detail even if the audience won't "notice" it. I don't think abrams or mindel would agree with this

All this Earthlike places took the illusion of a GFFA to pieces.

The prequels are full of "earthlike" places.

They had the crazier planets too, and sure, I'd welcome a bit more of that here too, but each trilogy has the earth environments without much tinkering with them.

I've been watching this moment on a loop since yesterday. Just gorgeous.

I like it too. Reminds of the prequels... it’s got a real sense of scale.

Anyone else noticed how each of the 3 ST films has its own color grading/palette and that's reflected in the marketing as well - their respective logos and posters?

    - Yellow on TFA (Jakku and yellowish hue throughout the whole of the film).
    - Red in TLJ (Muted/toned down colors throughout the whole film, where the red is made to contrast the most - showcasing especially in the Battle of Crait).
    - Blue in TROS (Blue-ish colors throughout the film's key set pieces - Kijimi, The ocean duel on Kef Bir and pretty much all of Exogol).

I simply love how each film has its own unique style with regards to the visuals :)

TROS easily has the worst "scene/sequence editing and transitions" of all SW movies other than AOTC (long transitions that usually start/finish with wide shots of people talking and/or walking in blatant CGI surroundings). Many of the scenes and sequences of TROS jump to the next one in jerky, frantic fashion, like a tv sitcom or something. That, and the dagger subplot, is my main issue with the film.

Attack of the Clones is great, and most of those are miniatures, not cgi.
