Sadly I don't know that CB. For someone who was there in '77 and has always loved SW, I'm as EU (yes, counting games) ignorant as anyone.

    Saaaaad...

He basically had the voice of Alan Rickman and cracked a lot of bad jokes. Like, reallyyyyyy bad jokes. I would love if the tv Cad would be just as much of a *** as the game Cad.

That actually sounds cool. I like characters having an identifiable tick or whatnot, like the bad jokes, over... always looks really cool and menacing.

    Ahhhhh.
That was a welcome break from work, which I now return to. Wow, watching video games as a diversion from work... major college flashbacks

Someone should cut and paste a clip together from this episode to Jambalaya on the Bayou .

I can totally see Sy Snootles singing that:

"Son of a gun, gonna have big fun on the Bayou!" [face_laugh] [face_laugh]

Cookies for whoever wants to waste a bit of his or her time on this! :p

Well, that's the third solid to good episode in a row and certainly, IMO, one of the best since the two that opened the season. Plenty of good times with the Hutts, Nal Hutta on screen, more hijinks with Ziro, Bane against the Jedi in an entertaining tussle (his first appearance reminded me somewhat of Fett's random showing up in at Jabba's in Jedi), and like a few Jedi before him, TCW actually made Vos likable to me. I wasn't a big fan of his in the comics and I'll admit that this characterization doesn't really fit the angst he seems to suffer through those stories, but here he was entertaining if shallower than his comic counterpart. I don't mind, though. Like I said, I liked the guy. It's a similar situation to Luminara, who up until the show I was rather apathetic, but since she's become one of my favorite Jedi. I wouldn't mind ol' Quinlan making another appearance.

I was sad to see Ziro go and a little surprised it was Sy that offed him. I was hoping that the glimpse we got in the preview clip was a ruse, but alas it was not meant to be. I'll miss that big purple Hutt. That is, until we get the inevitable flashback episode detailing Dooku's original deal with Ziro or something.

Anyway, fun episode. I hope they can continue more in this vein. Hopefully, the execution for next week's Padme and Ahsoka-centric entry will keep up the trend.

This was the best episode for this season so far.

What was that thing that Hutt was smoking. Space crack?

Wow, finally saw this episode. Ziro got the full-on Celluloid Closet treatment. That was ridiculous. Just another corpse for the "bury your gays" trope, I guess. [face_worried]

OK, I'm honestly baffled by this comment. Can you elaborate?

I'll try to sum it up without getting ranty. There is a long history of old Hollywood (through the Hays code requirements) abusing gay characters (see the book or film, The Celluloid Closet). Among the treatment of gay characters in these movies were A.) forcing random and illogical opposite sex love interests upon them, B.) portraying them as seedy members of the criminal underworld, and C.) killing them violently and remorselessly.

It was like Filoni and company bludgeoned Ziro to death with the old Hollywood Hays Code. And people complained about Jar-Jar.

EDIT: All I'm saying is that when you create a purple, flamboyant Hutt with the voice of Truman Capote, you probably want to tread lightly. :p

I can buy that insofar as it seems inevitable to me that when you mine tropes from classic cinema, you're bound to pay homages not just to the films of the past but also the stereotypes contained therein, intentionally or not. Whether it's angry natives (Tusken Raiders) or unscrupulous gays in the criminal underworld, you're going to hit all the un-PC targets. Your Jar Jar analogy really isn't far off the mark.

Certainly, the funhouse mirror Hollywood created by the Hays code caused some ironically perverse tropes to appear. But like I said, if you're aping those tropes, you'll run into the same issues. See also: the yellow peril of the Neimoidians.

And seriously, who was asleep at the wheel when they decided on the Hutt Mother's voice? Was Della Reese unavailable?

Just what exactly are you implying?

Who's to say Ziro was gay? Because his voice was modeled after Truman Capote who was also gay? What sex is Sy Snootles anyhow? I thought Hutts were asexual.

Sy Snootles is female Pa'lowick- hutts aren't asexual but hermaphrodites who usually choose either one of the sexes- so thy decide to be males or females- it's similar to real world slugs... but technically it was impossible for Ziro to be "gay" because he is biologically both male and female... he has male personality and apparently he was infatuated by female pa'lowick... still he could have had other relationships[face_thinking] .... i am not really interestedo_O

    So. General question.

How come they switch the scenes right before Anakin and Padme kiss, and completely cut the Asajj smooch scene, but had no problem with the extended make-out sequence between stilt-legs and the giant purple hutt?

Reasonable answer: The broadcasters felt that a kissing scene between two distinctly non-humanoid aliens would be far less imitable and far more palatable to the younger audience.

Cinematic answer: It fits in with the general cabaret atmosphere of Nal Hutta, where excess, luxury, and the appetites of the flesh reign.

Crack answer: They threw out the word 'true love', which won over the executives. Or...maybe they're just...just weird. XD

Other than Avatar, I haven't seen a digitally rendered kiss that didn't look weird. Speaking from gaming experience, generally animators do as they did in the Asajj scene and don't actually show the characters' lips. Weirdness being the point of the Ziro/Sy kiss, it got a pass.

I guess CN isn't quite ready to mix violence and intimacy. Now if Sy had smooched poor ol' Ziro after he'd kicked it...
