That might be a good thing, actually. I mean, a Maul game that somehow sends Maul like 100+ years into the future to fight with Darth Talon developed by a studio with a pretty mediocre track record.

All the games were in development hell and might be worse then the ones EA has made.

Was cancelled cause of the buy out according to the game developer. The decision to pair Talon with Maul came direct from George Lucas( a clone or descendant of Maul). Witwer also said he was gonna voice the character.

I doubt the game would have really come out and disney just cancelled a dead game.

From what i heard lucasarts wqs a mess and half their games dropped dead or in development hell. Lucasarts was killed off with kindness.

I'll agree with Fredrik on this one. By all accounts, Lucasarts was in absolute disarray. From the whole debacle between them and Free Radicle, issues with 1313, projects being cancelled despite being in development, everything that went down with Factor 5. It was kind of a ****show.

Witwer also said, to him, TLJ was made by a guy that did not quite do his homework on Twitch recently. Witwer also personally favors Lucas only Star Wars made movies which included TCW. Everything else he considers like an alternate universe(ST include). Although he's respectful of other artists and the franchise, and but that is essentially his view.

It bears noting that Sam elaborated considerably in another comment down the chain which was not posted originally:

Wittwer yess, that is view and i respect it. Filoni i think does this as lucas saga and this as lucas legacy saga.

He is wrong though ( and he knows he's wrong, this tweet is to appease the unnecessarily angry people who cannot accept other opinions).
Without TLJ means without Disney, and that means Clone Wars would have finished 4-5 years ago, and it would have had 40 more episodes.
I like Sam Witwer. He is a very likeable guy.

In other news, I would have loved to have had Star Wars 1313 and the Darth Maul video game. Saying that they would have sucked is just an assumption, based on a lot of bias and a sense of appeasement about why they were cancelled.

Games that go through development hell tend to not be very good. And like I said above, LucasArts was an absolute mess by the time I was dissolved. Yes, I cannot say with 100% certainty that the games wouldn't have been very good. But I can speculate with a decent degree of accuracy that a Darth Maul game by a port developer not even notable enough for a Wikipedia page probably wouldn't have been very good.

Oh you can speculate as much as you want, and everyone can do the same, but to claim how accurate these speculations are implies knowledge of alternative universes or parallel dimensions, and none of us have that kind of knowledge. All I know is that Star Wars 1313 looked absolutely FANTASTIC before it got cancelled, and I quite honestly would much rather have it even if it sucked, than not have it at all.

In the industry, what was seen at E3 2012 is called a vertical slice. It's basically a big showey on-rails segment used to sell the game. The project was still in pre-production at that stage, and wasn't even properly in development by the time of the buyout. And yeah, I would have liked to have it, but the project was stillborn with nice visuals used to sell a concept. It's not something worth pining after , because it never really existed to begin with.

If you're going to mourn LucasArts, you should instead be talking about Free Radical and Factor 5. Essentially two companies that were killed because LA screwed them over, and we won't get the basically entirely completed Battlefront 3 and Rogue Squadron Collection because of that.

LucasArts was a mess with half their games being cancelleda nd only a few good ones. I know it get's praised alot but force unleased is overatted and the sequel is just fan fiction bad.

I like the Force Unleashed games. Not exactly masterpieces, but they were pretty fundamental to getting me into Star Wars as a kid. Hell, I got the FU2 collector's edition, and even went to a FU2 panel at Celebration when I went. It's very nostalgic for me.

This is literally how the majority of video games are promoted to begin with, and then they are fully developed and released. Sometimes they don't live up to the hype. Other times they do. I would have liked to see this game regardless of any hypotheticals you have about it. Your subjective opinion about whether the pitch was worth developing, does not really mean anything about the finished product that we would have gotten.

If you were a kid when The Force Unleashed was released, maybe you don't remember the golden age of Lucasarts and the games it has developed in its history. I won't even go into the trouble of mentioning a full list, it's pointless. The original Battlefronts (1 and 2), Republic Commando, Jedi Knight 1 and 2, Jedi Academy, KOTOR 1 and 2 and the list goes on. I am sorry, but any educated guess that I would make, would predict that 1313 would have been pretty awesome. To say that it's better we didn't get it, is quite the statement, and I just don't agree with it at all.

the was one was just ok, the second was bad. I thought at first they were great had nostalgia for them. But i didn't like how his story was with the rebellion and he was to overpowered imao. People talk about Rey being mary sue, then soo is this guy. I mean taking down both of the most powerfull sith lords, give me a break. But i'm fond of them as it got me more intrested in star wars.

I would have liked to see it, and I think the pitch was worth developing. I merely wanted to point out the actual circumstances surrounding the project.

I play, uh, all of those, actually. My first experiences with modding games were with Empire at War, Battlefront 2, and Kotor. As a kid, I played a ton of Republic Commando multiplayer with my friends. I'm a Star Wars fan and a game dev. I've at least played most of the Star Wars games released, and have beaten pretty much all of the big ones.

And I didn't intend to say that it would be better that we hadn't gotten it. But also, it was a project incredibly early in development that was overhyped due to the vertical slice presented. I just dont think it's the main thing that should be lamented with the closure of LucasArts, because, again, it was practically stillborn.

How do you cancel a company?

LucasArts still exists, they're just not a game developer anymore, they handle game licencing.

I mean you can’t really cancel a company more like close it down, but yes Lucasarts still exists although it might as well not
