You want my thoughts here are my thoughts.

dp4m - Silver Surfer, Invincible, Superman

Starting at the top, how did Surfer even make it in? Nobody had a single objection to the most powerful herald of all time? The Power Cosmic is basically magic, at this level, and who's doing it better than him? Still somehow he manages to job his way across the galaxy like a shiny transient hobo.

Invincible is great, I like Mark. Good book. I just have a few issues with the durability of the characters in the universe as a whole. Sure, they can take a beating--Mark is scrappy as hell--and I know some of it can be attributed to Kirkman's love of gore, but the kind of damage they accrue over a fight is off the charts compared to the big two universes. Mark has broken limbs fighting characters of the same level as him. He's been absolutely devastated, and the reason I don't attribute that to greater strength in the Skybound universe is because we have a much larger catalogue of the Superman type power level feats in the big two. A case can be made, I think, for Thragg or Allen to be the peak of that power level, but at the same time Viltrumites take much longer to heal from grievous injuries, for example, than do Kryptonians. Superman's healing factor is basically Wolverine tier, in that the healing process is instantaneous (provided the Sun is shining), whereas Mark has taken weeks to recover from a beatdown from characters of that level. Like I said, not that Superman's never been beaten down, and Mark has improved a little, but Clark's durability is much more consistent against that kind of striking power.

You might say that Superman has a specific weakness, but so do the Viltrumites, and I think with the prep rules no one is really going to be able to exploit that very effectively unless they have a history with the character (so in that case, yes, Superman does happen to have more enemies on the list). Mark has also been shown to be vulnerable to sonics, for instance, and high enough electric powers (things Superman has succumbed to as well, but my money is on big blue here, consistently).

As for cohesion, this is really more of a neutral, "will not fight together" kind of cohesion. Surfer's a loner for the most part, so is Mark. Superman is a leader in his universe because people look up to him but they don't know this guy, so this gets a bronze medal from me. They place, I guess.

cubman987 - Hulk (Savage Version), Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers), Power Girl

Savage Hulk. His physicals are certainly off the charts, but he lacks a utility that I would want in a first round pick. And Carol is a fine leader. She's got rough edges, but she's been leading some of Marvel's marquee teams for a few years now. The drawback is that this isn't second round talent. She brings a little more versatility than your average super type, but that's situational, and against the other super types she pales in comparison. Power Girl continues the reaching trend, as she is only slightly less utilized than every other female superhero in DC that doesn't have a bat in their name.

MandaloreYak - Magneto, Apocalypse, Thragg

I do not believe that Magneto is a first round pick (not here and now, anyway). Don't @ me. Thragg and Apocalypse are all right. More than all right. Okay, even. They're not lighting my fire, personally, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them at the top of the pile at the end of it. Especially if current trends continue.

A Blind Prophet - Cyborg Superman (no rings), Rachel Summers (No Phoenix Force), Dr. Doom

Cyborg Superman is lame and his creator should be ashamed and whoever put him on here should also feel bad. He's Superman but he's a Terminator--no wait! He's a free floating consciousness--no wait! He's the internet! Get out of here, the 90s, nobody likes you.

Rachel Summers is not who I would have taken here but telepathy is a limited resource and she's got that. Still, telepathy is a limited resource and she's not who I would have taken here. Is this being too obvious?

Dr. Doom toots as he pleases, so you're all set there. Hopefully you didn't actually draft a Doombot, though. You never can tell.


Darth Punk - Thor, Martian Manhunter, Black Bolt

I like Mjolnir. I'd probably draft that too if I could. Oh and Thor comes with it, that's a bonus. And the swiss army knife. He's a strong choice with weak writing. But also some strong writing. I especially like him in Sandman where he does absolutely nothing and manages to not job to anyone.

wtf is Black Bolt doing on the list? We just decided to leave one broken character on there for fun? And then we decided to leave him up there for 3 rounds? I'm speechless.

heels1785 - Talisman, Maker (Ultimate Reed), Black Adam

You gotta have magic, right? I like her stuff, but she is deficient in showings, so that is a drawback, but it's also a great utility to have for the team. Still, that's like getting a second mortgage for a new water heater. I don't have her projected in the first round, but I'm not drafting.

If Reed Richards is a scientist then Maker is an engineer. Much better application of his intellect with regards to smashing action figures together in pretend fighting.

World War 3 happened, right? So he has that going for him. Or did that not happen now? Who can keep track?

 

see my previous comment concerning rachel, she's got a lot more going than just TP, and she isn't a cripple... who almost certainly wouldn't work with the other two very well. of the TP on the list, i thought she was second or third, since charles is clearly number one in that regard so far as i can tell. not to mention having all those other lovely benefits that she has.

 

So this is my bad but on the list "Nitro (Frank Simpson)" should be "Nuke (Frank Simpson)" I don't know what happened there exactly.

 

i noticed a few typos like that, like atricitus instead of atrocitus.

I won't do full breakdowns, the judges did a nice job. I'll just add a round-breakdown:

Round 1:
Best Pick: Silver Surfer. You guys kind of put him on an island with power level when you created the list. That's on you. But nice job not letting him slip past first overall
Worst Pick: Hulk. Both judges harped on this, not gonna pile on.

Round 2:
Best Pick: Maker. I love everything about that pick.
Worst Pick: Rachel Summers. For just about everything you might have wanted to accomplish with that pick, there were better options.

Round 3:
Best Pick: Black Bolt. Yeah. He probably shouldn't have been there in the third.
Worst Pick: Power Girl. Good round overall, with everyone getting decent value. I just don't like the Power Girl character, and think there were plenty of better options available.
