Wasn't the big rumor that the next animated show will take place just before/during the ST?

I just heard post-ROTJ myself. And honestly setting it further in the past (IE not just a few years pre-TFA) would be best imo.

My own preference for post-ROTJ series is, as I said, if it begins right after the Battle of Endor and follows the OT Big 3. The Battle of Jakku could be the finale of season 1 or 2. After that, the series could make some time jumps over many years and show us Ben's childhood, Luke's "academy" and so on.

Perhaps a future spinoff would be more on Sabine & Mandalore and some new characters and takes place in or around the same time frame. A show taken place between ESB and ROTJ or even ROTJ and TFA sounds more appealing to me. But a lack of Jedi fighting and no Inquisitors or Sith around would I think make the show boring. Part've the appeal of TCW was they had Ventress, Grievous and Dooku and later on Savage, Maul and Sidious and some dark Jedi traitors thrown in as one shots and Anakin's psychotic antics every so often.

I have heard rumors of a new series set between ROTJ and TFA. Hopefully if so, Darth Maulo does not make a return.

I wouldn't mind a Clan Wren spin off mini series. It would appease sabine/mandalore fanboys/girls/people.
But regardless of the theme of a new show, id like to see the main group split up a bit more and have to team up with different allies for a few episodes at a time. it helps keep character/planet/faction introduction fresh rather than 'Team goes to new planet, meets new friend, new friend appears randomly later in the series'

No Sabine spinoff, very lame. Hopefully a series that is fresh. I'm tired of all this have to make it canon stuff. It gets old and boring and you find out real quick how quick you can run out of stories. I like the Marvel approach. There shows are fun and doesn't connect to the movies. Not everything has to be canon

By the time of TPM, the Republic is corrupt and failing enough for Palpatine to pursue his climb to power.

I wouldn't mind a show pre-TPM about the "underworld"/seedy elements during this time, where the characters like Dooku (still a Jedi), Palpatine (still a senator), etc. can crop up, but are not the main characters in a pre-Skywalker era showing the change in the Republic over the course of the show.

Other than that, while I would like to see the origin of the Sith/Jedi, or the fall of the Sith 1,000 years pre TPM, I have little/no faith that they will explore such tales on TV. The ancient Republic I'm guessing will be explored after Episode IX when Disney needs further ideas for spin-offs to keep the films going. I think they are well aware of the appeal and profitability of "The Old Republic."

So I would imagine that further TV shows in the immediate future will be in the prequel or OT eras +/- a few years.

As the core body of films are the "Skywalker saga," I don't expect Luke or Leia to be the focus of any TV show. Rather, I could see either a new cast, or existing TV characters being repurposed into new stories (like they did with Ahsoka).

What I'd like to see from a post-ROTJ animated series (assuming the rumor's are true):

    - Have each season be only 10-13 episodes long. Or better yet, allow the team making it to decide how many episodes there will be based on what they need to tell the story they want, which would allow for as little filler as possible. Also, having fewer episodes would allow for...
    - An increased budget. Self-explanatory.
    - Some fresh creative blood. I love Dave Filoni and he's made some very valuable contributions to the saga (he'll, he's the reason why I can look at Anakin in a favorable light due to his TCW characterization). But I feel like his less savory storytelling tendencies are starting to get the better of him and that someone new should be brought on board as showrunner. Brad Bird honestly would be my pick if Disney/Lucasfilm is willing to shell out enough money for him, since he has a lot of valuable experience in animation and could bring a lot to the table.
    - Put it on Netflix. This would allow for more creative freedom in regards to content and storytelling choices.
    - Have Luke, Han, and Leia be the main characters. Like TCW focused primarily on Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Ashoka, the main leads of the OT should be here. Flesh out their characters and relationships with each other. With that being said...
    - Include some original characters as part of the cast. Since the fates of Luke, Leia, and Han are already predetermined, one runs the risk of not maintaining the tension due to canon dictating they must live. Including new characters whose fates are unknown and the audience (hopefully) likes would alleviate this concern.
    - Have each season have a clear overarching story that ties all the episodes together so it feels more serialized and less procedural.

For the first season, I'd like it to take place from the end of the Battle of Endor with the Battle of Jakku as the season finale. After that, they can jump around in time if they wish to important points of Luke, Han, and Leia's lives. Ideally, I'd have it last for five to seven seasons and end right before TFA begins, much like TCW was going to end. One of the main throughlines would be Ben's descent into darkness, starting with hints here and there and towards the end, showing his seduction by Snoke.

I think that the Acolytes of the Beyond would make excellent villains for a post ROTJ series. They need to explain what happened to them after all since the Aftermath Trilogy doesn't resolve their fate.

    *Lightsaber wielders
*Sith Fanatics with a slight connection to the force. They also worship Darth Vader.
*Revolutionists who has started riots on multiple worlds
    *Owners of Sith artifacts

The series should show us the adventures of Luke's new Jedi apprentices and then introduce the Acolytes of the Beyond and see how the new jedi struggle against this foe. Mark Hamill still doesn't sound extremely old, I'm sure they could get him to voice Luke if that is the case.

I kind of the hope the rumour is true that Rebels ends with Season 3 and will be replaced by a new SW animated series - hopefully one that is darker and more varied - Rebels is too light and linear. However according to this rumour we would still get the odd Rebels Tv/movie special from now on, which I also think would be a good way to release the untold/unanimated TCW stories in animated form.

On another note we really need to see Star Wars Detours, considering all of the Lego SW specials they keep making I don't see any excuse for Detours to stay on the shelf. Also hope we get the live action tv series which sounded really awesome, it was going to be very dark, gritty and focus on a lot of obscure villainous characters, sounded really refreshing.

I'd be all for a mini-arc structured, post-ROTJ cartoon series where members of the OT cast make appearances, if not actual starring roles.

The way I see it, Aftermath and other new books are painting the picture of a post-Empire Galaxy where the New Republic is standing triumphant, but occupying far less space and excercising far less authority over the Galaxy than its predecessors. We're probably seeing multiple competing powers, and likely large sections of "frontier." It's the Wild West in space, with different civilized areas of control and some of them may be belligerent but too weak to challenge the New Republic to a fight. There are threats that the little guy has to avoid, and there are villains and monsters out there, but there's also reluctance towards allying with the New Rpeublic because of the history of the Galaxy. Some people join Neo-Separatist groups, some join anarchic pirate societies, some find themselves swept into the havoc of the Hutt's crumbling empire, and then there are other systems, perhaps Mandalore included, just trying to get by.

Into this chaos, you introduce your main cast. If it was me, the core characters would be new, but their boss would be a major OT character who nonetheless has a wide open future: Lando Calrissian. The cast is a combination transportation/security company dealing with this new chaos, and occaisionally having to resort to violence and espionage to accomplish their goals. The main enemies are criminals, local warlords, and secretive and enigmatic Imperial holdouts who just seem to disappear from the Galaxy whenever you've tracked them down... Cast would include ex-Rebel and ex-Imperial characters, learning to get along while the latter start to get some perspective on the Empire's actual nature. And, on occasion, particularly dangerous adventures and quests see help provided by other Saga characters, like Senator Leia Organa, Lando's competitor and Leia's husband Han, Countess Sabine Wren of Krownest, and maybe a few, quiet cameos by a wandering Jedi named Luke Skywalker, who has no problem pausing his philosophical scavenger hunting to help people.

Enemies I'd go ahead and cast? Warlord Zsinj, playing up the corporate executive angle and embracing his obfuscating stupidity for full, fun Saturday-morning cartoon villainy while keeping him dangerous and maybe having him employ ex-ISC troops as Raptors. Black Sun, perhaps run by multiple Vigos, who are trying to gobble up Jabba's territory and who Lando feels he can play off each other. And a few quiet First Order fanatics recruiting Imperial personnel and sabotaging the New Republic's peace, preferably lead by a holographic Blackhole.

Oh, and I'd have the main protagonist and team leader under Lando be a female Ex-Imperial secret agent who keeps on running onto Luke whenever he pops up, a woman who has red hair and possible Force abilities...

^^^^^^^^^^ Sounds fun! One arc can be something like "The Last Imperial" Like about a captain or Admiral who refuses to surrender OR JOIN the FO. To some he's just a pirate. To others a hero. His ISD is heavily modified but still haves that classic Wedge shape.

And stuff like that is why I'd want the new lead to be an Ex-Imperial. Even if they don't do a Mara Jade route (and it'd be unlikely they'd try that), using an Ex-Imperial would add a facet of admiration to any "Last Imperial" story.

What I want to happen and what I sort of think will happen:

A show similar to Star Trek set in the Unknown Regions, post ST. Thrawn is the main villain, Ezra, Kanan, Sabine are sent by Yoda to undermine the work of whatever the "dark side source" is.
