How do members of the Order of the Phoenix communicate with each other? 10 points.

[blockquote]I've heard the rumor that Order of the Phoenix members communicate via Chocolate Frog cards. That doesn't seem like a smart move, as Chocolate Frog cards are so widespread that it wouldn't be much of a challenge for a Death Eater to get a hold of one and charm it so that he could tap into OotP conversations. No, I suspect the OotP members are actually communicating via secret decoder rings, and, of course, the owl post (with charmed parchment). If you want to hide something, do it in plain sight.

[Gaeri][/blockquote]
Is a person?s Patronus form always the same as their Animagus form, or do they differ? Why? 10 points.

[blockquote]There is a chance that they would differ. It doesn't seem like a person can choose their Patronus charm, as Harry wasn't thinking about it taking any particular form. The Patronus seems to just come from the person without conscious thought, perhaps even the form that their happy thoughts are associated with. Choosing what animal to change into for a Patronus is a conscious decision; if Harry chooses to become one, he can pick whatever he wants, not necessarily a stag. The two forms probably end up being the same a lot, because if the unconscious mind is that connected to some animal that much, the conscious mind probably is too. I don't really see Harry choosing a stag, though, so in future books I don't expect the two forms to match in his case.

[Gaeri][/blockquote]
As we've seen, each person's Patronus takes a different form. What form would it take for some major characters (besides Harry), and why? May do up to 7. 10 points each.

[blockquote]1. Ron Weasley - a lion. He's in Gryffindor, he's already predisposed to the animal, and we saw in the movie of Prisoner of Azkaban that's he's got a really good roar in him already. And don't forget, "Weasley is our King," and the lion is the symbol of the king. He's got a little lion in him, and it would come out with his Patronus.

2. Draco Malfoy - a dragon. He's already got the name, the symbolism of the dragon was forced upon him before he could talk. He's also in the house of serpents, but he'd never be willing to settle for simple or normal and would have a Patronus of the most outlandish serpent possible, hence, a dragon.

3. Severus Snape - a bat (either a really really big one, or maybe a whole swarm of them.) He is described as swooping in like a giant bat, seems to reason his inner Patronus would like to do the same. This Patronus would have the double bonus of warding of Dementors and scary away most people in the immediate vicinity as they run around screaming "They're in my hair! They're in my hair!" Snape likes to scare people. It's fun.

4. Minerva McGonagall - a cat. The connection between Harry and the Stag is through James' animagus form. I think that if McGonagall has a big enough connections to felines to want to turn herself into one now and again, that her inner Patronus would probably feel the same way. But don't expect some docile little house cat. Her Patronus would be like some stray cat that's had beer bottles thrown at it; it'll kick butt.

5. Pansy Parkinson - a wolf. She's always getting compared to a pug dog, and may often act like a female dog, so I imagine she's probably taken some of the dog-analogies to heart. Her Patronus wouldn't come out as a lap dog, though; it'd be a ferocious dog, probably a wolf. The wolf would be fitting because the high pitched howl would go along so very nicely with her high pitched shrieking.

6. Fleur Delacour - a poodle. I can't help it; I can't see her conjuring anything that isn't fluffy and white and oh so very French. It would probably be an evil poodle, though, so don't let your guard down.

7. Vincent Crabbe - a giant crab. He's not the brighest of chaps, so I imagine he would conjure something a

How do members of the Order of the Phoenix communicate with each other? 10 points.

In The Goblet of Fire, when Harry brings Dumbledore back to the woods after Harry and Krum run into Crouch Sr, Dumbledore shoots a sort-of silvery bird thing to get Hagrid for help. I recently read an editorial on mugglenet.com that speculated that this could be the device used by the Order to communicate. I had had the same idea before I read that editorial. The author of the editorial thought that perhaps it was a patronus that Dumbledore sent, but I think that it was some sort of spell that the Order has come up with. Dumbledore invented a spell, Communicatious Orderus, which allows the full-fledged members of the Order to communicate with each other. When the spell is uttered, followed by the name of the person whom contact with is desired, the wispy silver object with the message is sent to the person. For example, if Mr. Weasley wanted to tell Tonks that there was going to be a meeting at 5, he would say "Communicatious Orderus Tonks," and then say "Meeting at 5." Then the silvery object would shoot out of his wand, and deliver the message to Tonks.

Is a person?s Patronus form always the same as their Animagus form, or do they differ? Why? 10 points.

First of all, not everyone has an Animagus form to begin with. It's possible for a wizard or witch to be able to cast a Patronus even without being an Animagus.

But assuming we're talking about those who are Animagi, I'd still say that the form of someone's Patronus doesn't necessarily have to be identical with his or her Animagus form.

There's the example of Remus Lupin ? not an Animagus in the actual sense, but someone with an animal form (namely, a werewolf). His Patronus is simply described as a silvery mist, not as taking the form of a wolf.

Even if you don't accept the above example as proof (given that Lupin is not a "real" Animagus), one has to consider what one's Patronus and Animagus forms are based on.

A person's Animagus form is based on his/her personality ? Peter Pettigrew, who betrayed ("ratted out") his friends, turns into a rat. Sirius Black, who was very loyal, turned into a dog. James Potter, who was both vain and noble, turned into a majestic stag. Rita Skeeter, the pesky scandal reporter, turns into a bug.

The form someone's Patronus takes, however, is based on his or her idea of happiness (bear in mind that to cast a Patronus, one has to think a very happy thought!). Harry Potter's ultimate idea of happiness is to be with his parents (cf. what he saw in the Mirror of Erised), hence his Patronus took the form of a stag, a symbol for his father.

So, going by that, it would be possible for a person's Patronus form to be identical with his or her Animagus form if that person's Animagus form can also symbolize his/her idea of happiness. For instance, if Prof. McGonagall's happiest moments were when she was acting "catlike" (playful, perfectly relaxed?), her Patronus could take the form of a cat.

Not everyone Animagus' Patronus will necessarily look like his/her Animagus form, though ? it depends on what that person's deepest idea of happiness is.

As we've seen, each person's Patronus takes a different form. What form would it take for some major characters (besides Harry), and why? May do up to 7. 10 points each.

Ron?s would no doubt be a particularly vicious rat. After all, Scabbers/Pettigrew was a major part of his life for at least the first three years of his life at Hogwarts. It also would be pretty funny to have his Patronus be the last thing someone would expect as being vicious, right?

Draco?s would probably end up being a dragon (makes sense, considering that his name invokes the image of a dragon, after all.) Also, considering that a dragon is a very powerful and fearful animal, it would make sense for the son of a Death Eater

Things to Come

What will the password to the Gryffindor dormitories be in the 7th book? Why? 5 points.

Ron will pick Chuddley Cannons. Because it is his favorite team.
>Shasa Waterwalker<

What will the password to Dumbledore's office be in the 7th book? Why? 5 points.

Toffee flavored bean. Because he once said he would like one to Harry. And they always seem to to be candy.

>Shasa Waterwalker<

When will Book 7 be released? Why? 5 points.
Book 7 will be released on Saturday, July 8, 2007. It has taken about that amount of time from Order of the Phoenix to Half Blood Prince, and J.K. Rowling herself has stated that Book 7 is a continuation of book 6, so it shouldn't take an overtly long time.

Things that Were

What House was Professor Binns in if he attended Hogwarts? Why? 5 points.

Professor Binns was in Ravenclaw, as he clearly values knowlege more than anything else.

Is a person's Patronus form always the same as their Animagus form, or do they differ? Why? 10 points.

A Patronus will differ from a person's Animagus form. The Patronus represents what the person feels protects him. An Animagus form is a reflection of the person's true personality, and therefore the two wouldn't overlap.

Walker Parkin. Using a wand and threatening the other team with a meat cleaver in early quidditch games.

Catroina McCormack captained the team to two League wins and played for Scotland 36 times.

Rudolf Brand for the silly reason of after winning a game jumped off his broom and proposed marriage to the opposing number.

Dai Llewellyn. A medal is now awarded at the end of each season in his honor to the league player who has taken the most exciting and foolhardy risks during a game.

HUFFLEPUFF UPDATE

BOOKS
How do members of the Order of the Phoenix communicate with each other? 10 points.
They communicate with each other through their wands. Each member of the Order has a special charm placed on them that will allow them to speak to any other member of the Order by tapping their head with their wand and then saying the charm ? Audilous Specificus- and the name of the order member that they wished to speak to. This also allows for conference calls.

By Jaina Solo 15

Is a person?s Patronus form always the same as their Animagus form, or do they differ? Why? 10 points.
No, a person?s Patronus form doesn?t have to be the same as their Animagus form. A person?s Patronus form seems to more often reflect an animal that has some certain significance to the person, while a person?s animagus form seems to be more of a reflection of some aspects of that person?s personality.

By Jaina Solo 15

Speculate on what happened/what will happen over the years after leaving Hogwarts to any of the various students mentioned in the books that are not main characters. 15 points for each character. May do up to 5.
Blaise Zabini
Blaise had told many of his friends at Hogwarts that he wanted to go into politics, he was simply using that as a cover up for his real dream ? to become a fashion designer. (I mean telling all your Slytherin buddies that you want to design clothes is not exactly the smartest thing to do) He has done very well ? a line of men?s and women?s underwear, a line of women?s shoes and a line of children?s robes.

Hannah Abbott
While Hannah mightn?t have been terribly famous at Hogwarts, she becomes very well known in her later years. At the age of twenty-nine (after meeting the man of her dreams and having four children ? three boys, one girl) she is seen by a producer in her beautiful garden and becomes Hannah Abbot ? Gardner Extraordinaire! (I mean, she even has her own show!)

Susan Bones
Susan leaves school and becomes a nurse. However, she learns that she hasn?t got the stomach for it and instead, at the urging of a friend, she goes into the hospitality industry and starts up her own café. It does extraordinarily well and is best known for the cups of coffee, the nice view and the great service.

Marcus Flint
Marcus had high hopes for himself when he left Hogwarts. It seems, however, that those hopes were way too high. He had thought to enter politics but when it becomes known how incredibly stupid he is, he is let go and forced to move in with a ?friend.? He stays there until the ?friend? finally decides to kick him out. Eventually he finds a job at the local muggle supermarket.

Cho Chang
Cho tries to make it big time in Quidditch but is told (many times) that she simply does not have the skill Professional Quidditch requires. Instead, she becomes an obnoxious reporter who everyone (including her employer) despises but while she might be obnoxious she is certainly able to sell papers without having to resort to writing about complete nonsense.

MOVIES
In the PoA movie, how would Draco have known that Harry fainted on the train? 5 points.
Draco could overhear Remus Lupin talking to the driver of the train and find out that Harry had fainted that way.

By Jaina Solo 15

According to the PoA movie, how would Lupin have known that the Marauder?s Map was a map (since there was no explanation of the Marauders or their existence)? 10 points.
Lupin was the DADA teacher and a qualified wizard. Even Snape suspected that the parchment was more than it seemed. Given Lupin?s greater experience with the Dark Arts- enough to qualify to teach that position- Lupin was able to tell that it was a map because he had seen or heard of something similar being created earlier in his career and recognized it for what it was.

Yay... there are updates and they're all on time and prefects are posted. :D *bakes cookies for everyone*

On the downside, the combined force of the Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff updates is likely to kill me. Therefore, I'd like to commend Gryffindor on being the only House to NOT try to kill me with 20-40 pages in Word (with the margins minimized) of updates to add up. :p Not that I'm complaining about you guys doing tasks, though - in fact it's probably better to post excessively large weekly updates before I go back to class and get stressed over school.
