You also gotta realize, this is happening in real time. There are more streaming services rolling out or being retooled and consolidated, and fewer physical releases across the boards. And you can bet that the ones that are coming out are selling less well all the time. The fact that some studios are still trying it doesn't mean much more than that they're behind the curve or trying to eke out the last little bit of money they can.

Take it from the very super general public viewpoint, basic consumer BluRays or DVDs that used to be there in the checkout cue at Target or WalMart, essentially for parents to pick up to entertain their kids. Those are disappearing just as the shelves of discs over in electronics are shrinking, because... kids don't watch things from discs any more and parents know it's a waste of money as an impulse buy at this point.

I'm not saying it's cool or that I like it, but that's how it is and the direction in which it's going to continue to go. And again, it's even worse news in the music industry than it is for film and TV... trust me on that.

I kind of hope there is. I can't really afford half a dozen streaming services nor could I really get my money's worth with the watching time I have even if I could, so I'd like to be able to selectively get what I want to catch up on. This way I can at least catch up without having to dance around with trials or this and that. And furthermore, yes, having a 'backup' for preservation's sake--what if something unexpected happens to connections, servers, and the like? I know ultimately that a company likes Disney wants to drive things to their own 'storefront' as it were, but that doesn't mean I have to like it or be happy about it...

I think Disney wants to hoard content to really keep a hook in people on Disney +.

When you think about it, it is to their advantage to keep it on Disney+ to elevate its exclusivity factor.

It's not to the advantage of the consumer though, and this makes me less angry at pirating when companies engage in this sort of "fleece the customer" mentality.

They're not really trying to fleece the consumer, though, because there's just not high enough demand for the hypothetical product in question. I know it's a cyclical argument, but consumers prefer the streaming model, so demand for physical media goes down. Corporations see the writing on the wall and push it a little further, faster, but it's just as much the consumers driving it as the companies. Things are just changing that quickly.

I agree that things are changing quickly, but home video still sells fairly well because not everyone can afford to have 10 different streaming services. Just like with selling Mulan for the big bucks even for subscribers (theater movies are free on HBO with more expensive productions than Mulan), Disney is taking the low road here. It would be no skin off their teeth to release it on video. I think they can afford to do the fans a favor that can't afford to buy the service, even if hoarding it is the more profitable thing to do..

Also, it wouldn't have to be physical media; they could make it available for digital media sale. The point is, they are hoarding it to keep subscribers by making it the only way. Just about every show on other channels is made available on video.

Some commentary tracks on each episode from Favreau, the directors and actors sure would be rad.

Both Season 1 Novelization and Visual Guide have been cancelled... No planned Blu Ray release... extremely limited action figure releases and the merchandise is limited to only a small section of fans.

Are Disney/LFL ignorant of the SW fanbase or is this the new normal after the ST?

This is the new normal for their streaming channel's exclusive content.

Yeah, I got to agree there. It doesn't behoove Disney to release their exclusive content. I'm like some of you and like physical copies of things, but if you look at Marvel Avengers Assemble, Spiderman, Guardians if the Galaxy, animation to name a few they don't have blue ray releases. You either buy them through itunes or watch them through Disney plus. The same can be said for The Mandalorian, WandaVision, and Season 7 of the Clone Wars. No release on physical format.

It's the new normal for entertainment across the boards based on economics. I'm not the biggest fan of it either, but it's in no way all that specific to Disney. If these companies could make more money by selling content that could be experienced by sucking on a dirty sock than streaming, they'd switch lanes to that just as quickly.

I could see it happening in a couple of years once Disney Plus has more content.

I imagine we'll get a complete Mandalorian Blu-ray collection one day....probably about five years after the series is completely finished.

It'll be interesting to keep an eye on Marvel in the coming months (especially now that they're willing to stream movies such as Black Widow) to see if they decide to release their Disney Plus shows on physical media.

I was surprised to see Amazon selling a Collectors Edition DVD of seasons 1 and 2, surely they can't be knock offs if Disney haven't had them pulled?

Weird. Since there's no official word on a release at all, I'm 99,9% certain they're bootlegs. However, it appears as if Walmart carries it as well, so... [face_dunno]

*Remembers the TPM bootleg a friend got in 1999, with people walking in front of the screen and Chinese subtitles*

I have seen that version. Walked into a friend's flat and it was on. It was incredible. Most cheaply produced cover I may have ever beheld in my life.

I'm sure they're not genuine. There would have been some sort of hoo-hah if The Mandalorian got a home video release.

I got one of AOTC... I think the poor sound quality and nearly impossible to see picture improved the movie drastically.

I had one of AOTC as well - not quite as bad as the one TCF posted about but the quality was awful. However I watched the heck out of the Jango and Slave I scenes.

The Attack of the Clones cam bootleg has the garage scene that ends at "I hate them!" which was in the theatrical film release (and up with the Vader theme which I thought was better). It was the dvd version that added the post-scene "to be angry is to be human" bit. So let's not say cam bootlegs don't have historical preservation benefits!

I just stumbled upon the news yesterday, when I noticed the pre-order listings on Amazon. I'll be picking them up.

I want to (and probably will because I'm a sucker like that), but those prices are insane. [face_plain]
