Could they just adapt S4 into a movie script? If the movie comes before S3, it makes sense. The title still bugs me. Mando and Grogu sounds like they'll be skipping thru the Imperial Remnants bodies.

Why would the movie come before the season of Mando that aired last year?

Ok it sounds like we might not get a season 4 of The Mandalorian if new rumors are true. It comes from reliable leaker. This is no spoiler.

Well Pedro Pascal has been cast as Mr. Fantastic, so unfortunately I guess he will be too busy on that tired universe. Such a shame in hindsight he was cast as Din, his lack of availability has kind of ruined the show.

Not sure it is really Pedro Pascal's fault of not wanting to be available for Disney if we don't get a 4th season...but rather other reasons at a decisional level...
And I still firmly believe his voice is what made The Mandalorian and what will always be Mando for me... but it's only IMO of course :)

I agree and his voice and the way he conveyed emotion through it was a big part of season 1 and 2 but I firmly believe that season 3 suffered by him not being available. The natural progression was for the character to permanently remove the helmet but unfortunately Pascal not being around meant it couldn't happen. This is the reason I say it is a shame in hindsight because season 1 and 2 were fantastic. With him being so busy now on The Last of Us and Marvel, this show is clearly the least of his priorities sadly.

Yeah, I think that's been the writing on the wall for a while. All the information saying otherwise has, as I've read it, been based on the fact that season 4 had been in development, and they never officially said it's been cancelled.
No one — as far as I've seen — has credibly mentioned a season 4 based on post-movie-announcement information.

When did he say that? I missed it was it on a parallel interview? Or the live stage after the panel with Pedro Pascal that I will forever cry about missing because I was a celebration newbie and did not know to run there after the panel?

He said that all of their focus is on the upcoming movie, so he doesn't really have an answer for another season.
The good news is that this is not a definitive no. The bad news is that it's not a definitive yes.

Always follow the money in these instances. If the movie breaks a billion, then you can be assured we're getting Season 4. If the movie flops, we're probably not seeing Mando and Grogu until Filoni's movie gets released. But all of these are assumptions, and we all know what they say about people who assume things.

I would personally very much like a 4th season, and a 5th and a 6th. Every great TV show has 5-6 seasons, then ends at a high. Also, just because it's not communicated enough, Season 3 may not have been as legendary as the first two, but it was really gd good. The Mines of Mandalore is still a top 5 Mandalorian episode, the episode on Coruscant is pure bliss, and even the episode with Jack Black and Lizzo is so weird that I love it. The good parts of Season 3 completely overshadow the mediocre or bad parts IMO.

Well to be fair thats not following the money. To release a movie to a billion and then make a series 4 instead of another movie is infact cutting off the money. If you make a billion... you are gonna make another movie to get that billion again right?

A series 4 on streaming would only be done for a purpose. And i suppose the film would have to do well enough to show interest but not well enough for Disney to carry on making The Mandalorian movies.

And that might happen too. Since when is making shows not profitable? Don't believe everything you read. Viewership brings money from ads, brings money from subscriptions, brings money from all kinds of sources. Even if Disney+ as a platform might not have a net profit because of the insane amount of expenses, the shows that have high viewership numbers are definitely helpful towards the net gain/loss. And The Mandalorian is one of the most watched SW shows, along with Kenobi.

If what you said was the only way to think, then Rogue One would have received a prequel called Rogue Zero instead of 2 very expensive seasons of Andor.

But I also think that the format of the TV show works so much better for shows like The Mandalorian. I am excited about the movie, but I want to see stories fleshed out and multiple story arcs presented in seasons, as opposed to one big adventure on the big screen. I am sure there are tons of people who will watch the hell out of Grogu's adventures on Disney+ if they are to make future seasons. Just because streaming is temporarily saturated at this point, it doesn't mean that people will stop making TV shows.

    Most likely.

Yeah that's the conundrum. Favreau once said he would like to continue making "The Mandalorian" for as long as there was interest in it, but that was before Disney brass transitioned the story to a film format and now everything is up in the air.

Yes but you have to consider when Andor was greenlit. It was way back when the streaming wars were just starting and every streaming company thought they could be the next Netflix. Then the streaming bubble burst and many of those streaming companies never became profitable. That includes D+, which is only profitable on paper because it is bundled with Hulu and ESPN.

If Mando and Grogu makes a billion it’s 100% staying a theatrical franchise moving forward. I don’t really see a season 4 happening at this point as much as I’d love it. Maybe in a decade after the Heir to the Empire film is over, we’ll get the animated continued adventures of Mando and Grogu, but I just don’t see them investing the money into a series if the film is a hit, especially when it seems like just tightening the focus and making a singular two hour adventure will probably benefit the characters moving forward, given the dip in quality with season 3.

There was a thread about M&G's box office chances a while back on the Box Office subreddit. So, take with a grain of salt, but those people are certified box office sickos who follow the trends. Consensus seemed to be about $500M, maybe a bit more. A billion seems a long shot.
