Are there any jedi or force-sensitive in the book ? As on the SWG picture, with the Twi'lekk Jedi.

    Thank you.

well... that is exactly why I DISLIKE the book. And I rarely dislike a book before having read it. I too sense SW EU is going somewhere it shouldn´t and would have done things a lot different, but nevertheless I enjoy the books we got and the details in them. They might not be how I would handle stuff, but they are good. Different but good. I make the best out of it all and enjoy fanteories etc. to make it better, if not perfect (which is nearly impossible now).

I dislike the book because it is JUST ACTION AND GORE!!! I dislike books that do not feature moral and ethical stuff, that discuss philosophy, feature lots of facets etc. (one of the reasons I love LOST TV series, Flashforward and other stuff from the author of Flashforward, etc.) Good horror can feature this stuff AND still be action, gore and fun. But The reviews of Death Troopers (besides having a great viral advertising campaign) seem to just reuse too simple a reason for the zombies existence, too simple a solution and random characters without a connection to anything else. Han & Chewie should have no place in there, new characters are ok, but some new ones with familiar last names or even long forgotten characters used in here (even if as canon fodder) would be much better.

well.. for the record: If Horror, I prefer movies over books (vice versa with everything else). Cube trilogy is awesome, so is House on Haunted Hill etc. but the only thing that interested me in zombie movies ever was the plot of Resident Evil (they were good, well done and added lots of twists) or 28 Days Laters intro with the devastated world where you can go anywhere and do anything you like (pre-zombies... the rest of the movie was bad).

well.. does Death Troopers feature more than the following? :

Imperial made plague is making Zombies
    Antidote exists
Han & Chewie there without any reason for it, you can be sure they survive (bad for a horrr tale, very bad!)

Did I miss anything important? I know Joe Schreiber is a terrific good author who as I saw with his previews and he advertising, is a writer I LIKE. But the plot of Death Troopers as I know it so far and its connection to Star Wars is not what I would want. Horror is, in novel form, for me more than gore,

    No.

As I said, though, recent SW EU has had so much moral and ethical stuff (much of it badly done), that I feel a need to read a book that doesn't have that. And as for the fact that it gory...it's a horror novel. With zombies. Did you really expect it to be otherwise? And as for Han and Chewie, I suspect their inclusion was to provide a means of identification in the book, otherwise, the majority of the rest of the characters are those you don't care about. (Yes, the fact that their inclusion means they survive is a disappointment, but it's better, IMHO, than having a cast of new characters who might not all make it.)

Yes. There's some good stuff at the beginning as we get to know our main cast before the zombie oubreak starts, and there's a bit with Sartoris near the end that'll make your cringe, so it's not all just about what you said.

There is more. It's hard to actually describe it, though, so you're best to actually read it and take from it what you will.

Is it made clear when this book takes place? Before A New Hope? After? If so, how long before or after?

Well... I suppose my enjoy-the-hype phase is already over. Maybe I'll get the paperback, but I've said that with other books and didn't follow through.

I guess I'd rather try out the new Indiana Jones novel to see if Perry can make such a novel work (most of the old Indy books actually don't stand up too well for me ten years after I've read them), and apparently that one's got zombies, too.

We get to know a bit about Kale and Trig and their life before being rounded up and put onboard Purge. We also see them involved with Aur Myss in a deal that goes sour (and which it's inferred that Myss was the one who soured it). We also get to learn about Zahara, and that, after Sartoris kills Kale and Trig's father, she decides to leave Purge and head home, even though she doesn't exactly find the prospect of living at home enjoyable (apparently her family is a well off Corellian one.)

Not in the book. The closest we get is in the standard book timeline that accompanies all the books, placing it somewhere between 5 BBY and 1 BBY. Since it's placed after the Lando Calrissan Adventures, Daley's Han Solo books, and TFU, and given the fact that Han and Chewie are implied not to have done the latter part of Rebel Dawn yet, I'd wager it's somewhere around 1 BBY.

Officially, it's out Tuesday. Unofficially, if you happen to live in Canada, you might just be lucky and can get it now, especially if you live near a Black Bond Books.

Before but that's a part of the possibly small(ish) continuity timeline issues.

    Le sigh...

I have been checking with my bookstore everyday to see if it is shelved yet. Last night, I asked the manager if it would be put out today. He checked the stockroom and they don't even have it yet. He said they will get a truck today. I have a bad feeling that if they didn't already have it, that they won't have it today. I swear if I don't get this book today, I might just throw a fit. :p I probably should have just ordered it from amazon.I read in an interview that Schreiber(however you spell his last name) has already finished the first draft of his second SW book. I really am curious as to what it will be about.

I'm looking forward to this book, even if it is another book that is way too short to be a proper HC. I figure there will be a lot of folks out there who will dislike it due to the content. I have no problem with that. If they made a straight-up high romance SW novel I would be extremely uninterested in that, but I see that as having its own niche too. I just wouldn't buy it. ;)

I think that this is what we need, a tale short on moral ethical crap, toned down jedi, and the sith of the week poppping out of a microwave in the garage planning to take over the galaxy with just a red lightsaber and vicious rage anger but?????? no real force powers except lighting and the mind control Emperoer replay style. Nope done with that.

This book was pretty good. Fast read a lots of action and gore. And Harmony buddy, I don't know about you, but horror does mix with star wars, especially when a good author rights a good story.

I rate this book 8.75 out of 10. Hope they come out with more books like this.

    Greetings, once again!

I just got home from the very first book signing of Star Wars: Death Troopers, with author Joe Schreiber, who was also inducted as an honorary member into the 501st at the same time.

Some pics are up on in my Myspace album entitled "Death Troopers book signing." Also look look for some extra footage and audio in the next episode of The Dark Side Chats at the end of the month.

Got it for 30% off at Borders, read it already.

It would have had more impact on me had it not been for the Dark Horse SW Vector crossover. Those of you who skip the comics will have the full effect of 'Zombies' in the SW universe.

There are differences between Vector and Death Troopers. There are also similarities. For one, the zombification is not caused by the Force in Death Troopers, but a bio-engineered virus. In both stories, though, the plague first infects, one by the Force and the other by virus, then is passable to those who were not initially infected by being bitten, as Force Sensitives, who were immune to Rakghoul, could then be infected by a bite. Both conditions were cross-species affecting.

Han Solo made an appearance in both stories. As much as I love and adore Han Solo, some other smuggler could have been put in his place. Without Chewbacca, the Wookiee zombies may not have come off as poignantly, but it may have heightened suspense not to use characters in Dark Troopers who we know will survive. It was plenty Star Wars without Han and Chewie being there.

I don't think Death Troopers is out of place in the universe. A plague on a closed environment such as a starship has got to be the stuff of the SW in-universe legend, myth, and horror. There is also the undercurrent of a morality tale that some were afraid might be lacking. Good won, even if evil took some innocents down with it.

I don't want to give away too much of the ending, but I will say that it's open for a sequel. Certain things were not destroyed as they should have been, and I was disappointed that they were not. As a one-shot, the story was great. However, I don't think that we need Death Troopers II, III, etc ...

Got it last night, finished it today.

I liked it, it was suspenseful and fun and a great get away from the current FotJ series. A good read, and a fun addition.
