And I bet certain Zahnophobes here are probably screaming in rage to the high heavens after getting their hopes up, right about now... [face_devil]

Here's the summary from Random House's website. It's got some more information than that from Star Wars.com. Intersting stuff toward the end...

I wonder if this will resolve Lumiya, or at least reintroduce her to the EU. (Hopefully the latter.)

Personally, I doubt it. But I'm not going to say it wouldn't be a bad move.

    From the summary at randomhouse...

And the ultimate test will be surviving the deathtrap carefully laid by foes who are legendary for their ruthlessness . . . and determined to complete the job Thrawn began: exterminating the Jedi.

W-w-wait a second... Thrawn began the extermination of the Jedi Knights? [face_shocked]

Perhaps there were a some surviving Jedi from the Outbound Flight Project, who have been living a Yoda-like hermit existence since Thrawn downed their flight (I wondered why Thrawn chose Niruan to place the Hand of Thrawn?)

I think the "exterminating the jedi" refers to what happened to the outbound flight project......

wasn't the original C'Baoth on that? Maybe thrawn captured him and that's how he was made a clone.......

"wasn't the original C'Baoth on that? Maybe thrawn captured him and that's how he was made a clone......."

As far as we know, yeah, he was. Jorus is tied to a good chunk of Zahn's sub-mythos, he was born 112 pre-empire date, he was part of a task force that defeated the Bpfhassi dark Jedi (and presumably, the one that fled to Dagobah). The Organas owed their title to his ruling, and his argument convinced the Senate to fund the Outbound Flight Project, which Thrawn destroyed.

Interestingly enough, the HTTE sourcebook lists Joruus's age as being 120+.

    Neat idea, btw.

This is just a guess but isn't there a certain clone bounty hunter out there who hates the jedi? Doesn't he have a small army these days?

I think the alien species could be from the UR and somebody we never heard before because the synopsis mentions the alien species reveres the fallen Jedi for saving them from bloodthirsty conquerors who are also likely from the UR.

Possibly in Zahn's OFP prequel book on their wat through the Unknown Regions the Jedi on the OFP rescue the aliens from the bloodthirsty alien conquerors before being destroyed by Thrawn possibly on an unknown planet in the UR. Maybe Luke and Mara will visit this planet or maybe even encouter these conquerors on the way to recover the OFP wreckage or trying to bring the wreckage back to New Republic Space.

It would be cool if it were the Caamasi. They are one of my favorite SW species. Plus, they have a long-standing connection to the Jedi. of course, a new species would not be too bad either.

    It could be Noghri for all we know...though that may not be likely. 8-}

I really like that randomhouse synopsis. I like the idea of Luke/Mara with a team of people together on a ship for a long time...all good stories usually start with a group of people together on a mission. I'm looking forward to this book.

And the ultimate test will be surviving the deathtrap carefully laid by foes who are legendary for their ruthlessness . . . and determined to complete the job Thrawn began: exterminating the Jedi.

Thrawn could have helped exterminate Jedi. By destrying the Outbound Flight project he may have indirectly killed many Jedi. That's how I see it.

Just posting up the Randomhouse Blurb:

Sometimes it seems a Jedi?s work is never done and Luke and Mara Jade Skywalker know this only too well. Despite the bond they share in the Force, after three years of marriage the Jedi Master and his wife are still learning the ropes of being a couple?and struggling to find time together between the constant demands of duty. But all that will change when they?re united on an unexpected mission?and must pool their exceptional skills to combat an insidious enemy . . . and salvage a part of Jedi history.

It begins with a message from a surprising source: Nirauan, the planet where Thrawn, dangerous disciple of Emperor Palpatine, once held sway . . . and from which Luke and Mara barely escaped with their lives. The message itself is shocking. After fifty years, the remains of Outbound Flight?a pioneering Jedi expedition viciously destroyed by Thrawn?have been found on Nirauan. Now, the fiercely honor-bound aliens who reside there wish to turn over the remnants of the doomed mission to the New Republic. Accepting the gesture will mean a long voyage into the treacherous cluster of stars where the thousands of souls aboard the Outbound Flight vessel met their grim fate. But it may also mean something more . . . something that has stirred an inexplicable sense of foreboding in Mara.

Whatever may await, the Skywalkers will not face it alone. Joining them on the strange and solemn journey are an officer of the post-Palpatine Empire, escorted by a detachment of Imperial stormtroopers; a party of diplomats from a gentle alien species that reveres the fallen Jedi for saving them from bloodthirsty conquerors; and a New Republic ambassador who harbors his own mysterious agenda.

Soon enough, suspicion, secrecy, and an unknown saboteur run rampant aboard the isolated ship. But it is within the derelict walls of Outbound Flight itself, buried for half a century on a desolate planetoid, where the gravest danger lies. As the marooned hulk yields up stunning revelations and unexpected terrors to its visitors, Luke and Mara find all they stand for?and their very existence?brutally challenged. And the ultimate test will be surviving the deathtrap carefully laid by foes who are legendary for their ruthlessness . . . and determined to complete the job Thrawn began: exterminating the Jedi.

I didn't realize that there were thousands on board the OBFP.

ew Republic ambassador who harbors his own mysterious agenda.
    Probably Borsk Fey'la

Fey'lya's agenda isn't all that mysterious. He just wants to be CoS and ruin the whole galaxy.

Ruthless foes.... perhaps Lumiya (the Zahnophobes would be very pleased, if that's the case.)

He didn't want to ruin it. He just wanted all the power, and wouldn't let anything stop him.

    <<<Ruthless foes..............>>>

Actually, ever since they were separated at birth, Mara has wanted to meet her "clone"/"sister". They can discuss how to destroy Skywalker. :p (I'm being sarcastic ;) )

I think the randomhouse description is a lot BETTER than the official site one.

I agree, Liz! There should be a Maara in this story, and later on in the EU, and Anakiin, so everybody who needs a clone has a clone!

Less than two months now. Hopefully by January, we will have even more information, such as an excerpt. It would be cool if SQ opened with a star destroyer, like Zahn's previous books.

    Booklist review:
Here again we have Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade, the married Jedi, whose quest this time is for remnants of the Outward Bound expedition, launched 50 years before by the Old Republic and subsequently destroyed by pirates, with the help of the late Admiral Thrawn. Of course, the New Republic wants Luke and Mara to represent it on this outing, and Thrawn's people, the Chiss, want in, too. Moreover, half a dozen other individuals, factions, and polities all have personal or political reasons for finding the remains of the Outward Bounders. So already the situation is complicated, and the fact that, except for Luke and Mara, nobody is what they seem, and that some of the agendas they're hiding in dusty storage compartments and computer files are flat-out lethal, adds more complications. Everything gets rapidly worse when it turns out that there are survivors on derelict Outward Bound ships, and they are tough, determined, and totally hostile to the Jedi Knights and everything they ever did on behalf of the Old Republic. Finally, one of the not-what-they-seems reveals itself, teeing off half-a-novel's worth of fast, furious, detailed, and intelligent action, clearly setting up another book; and, oh yes, also developing Luke and Mara's relationship. Not for beginners with Star Wars fiction, perhaps, but in the hands of tie-in Master Zahn, a thoroughly absorbing story for the seasoned reader.
