The radio series were one of my favorite childhood memories. I actually wrote a long post about them in the Santa Cruz FanForce boards not that long ago. I'll post a link here, in case anybody wants to read it. In short, they're excellent. I wish Brian Daley were still around. http://boards.theforce.net/santa_cruz_ca/b10693/24262691/p1/?6 - Kai
What about in DFR when he is captured by Thrawn, hmmm? I just imagined Karrde to have a deepr voice rather than the little tinny one the audiobook has him have. He sounds like little Annie in TPM!!
How many audio dramas are there? I know of ANH, ESB, and RotJ; Dark Empire I, II, and Empire's End; Soldier for the Empire, Rebel Agent, and Jedi Knight; and Rebel Mission to Ord Mantell. I also know that at least a part of the TotJ comics were adapted into a drama, and that is was laughably bad. I think it was Ulic Qel-Droma and the Beast Wars of Onderon, but I could be wrong, since I couldn't listen to the whole thing. Were those it?
There's also "Adventures in Colors and Shapes", though I suppose that's actually a book-and-tape set... TC
I've been looking for the Unabridged CD's of the Audio Dramas for a long while, but can't seem to find them except for a ghastly amount of money (and sometimes unsure about the actual release edition)...
What about in DFR when he is captured by Thrawn, hmmm? What about it, Geldar? He's captured; that's all. Nice and neat. I'm saying we've almost never seen him hurt, let alone trip on the pavement. Like that icjy Brady Bunch movie: they don't so much as get their hair wet.
Thanks for the unlock, RF. Just heard some of the "Star Wars Radio Drama"... IT IS THE VERY DEFINITION OF AWESOME! It actually makes the prequels BETTER. I mean, DARN, it works *brilliantly* with the prequels. This is Darth Vader using the Force to torture Leia: Vader: You try my patience. Tell me what was done with those plans. Leia: N-nooo. Vader: Listen to my voice... you are now in great pain! Excruciating pain! Pain! A universe of it! Your world is nothing but pain! Leia: Make it stop! Vader: Tell me what I wish to know! Leia: Helllp me!!! Vader: Tell me what I wish to know! Where are the plans!? Leia: I can't! Vader: You skin is afire! You're burning! Your nerve endings are in flames! Your flesh is being torn apart! Leia: Make it stop! PLEASE MAKE IT STOP! Vader: I will when you've told me where the plans are... I wonder how Vader can make this stuff so convincing? Awesome. I recommend everyone go out, find copies of this, and commit it to memory. The Radio Drama >>> ANH itself.
Han solo driven the milenium falcon!!!; Cool, my Friend Moris Beracha give me one inside the original box, Date: April, 1980
I just borrowed these from a friend, and I'm almost done with The Empire Strikes Back (Luke just made it to Bespin). I've been enjoying them a lot-- dare I say it, but Brock Peters makes a better Darth Vader than James Earl Jones. The man is magnificent! Ken Hiller's narration is fabulous. "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, it was a time of revolution, when rebels united to challenge a tyrannical Empire." Yeah, the Leia torture scene is very good. There are a lot of little gems like that scattered throughout.
I would also like to note that as well as being awesome, these dramas make for excellent group listening with an eye to spotting masses of innuendo. Because I CAN ALMOST SEE THE ENTIRE CANYON FROM THIS SPOT ON THE RIM!
The thing that's truly disturbing me is that these audio dramas make me want to ship Luke/Leia. Like, seriously. I forget that they're related and end up being really surprised that Leia has to be rescued by that jerk Han instead of nice Luke who she clearly likes much better! Really...I wish that they didn't keep playing it like Han was such a creep. The scene in the Falcon - "my hands are dirty," - totally comes across as him molesting her against her wishes. And I'm sat there thinking, "It's okay! Soon Luke will come rescue her from this den of vice!" And then I'm like...no. Remember reality? Darn.
Concur. It's weird. I almost want to stop at ESB before we know Luke/Leia are related - because they have a lot more chem. than Han/Leia in these versions.
It also doesn't help that the Leia actress is awesome, Luke is (mostly) played by Mark, while Han comes across talking kinda goofy (not his dialogue but the delivery/slight speech impediment).
Concur. It's not just that the actor who plays Han isn't a patch on Ford, it's also that he never...pulls back the way Ford does in his scenes with Leia, where he comes across as a scoundrel, but not as a threatening predatory scoundrel. This Han...does. Not least because the actress who plays Leia is so great, and she seems to choose to play it as if Leia's disturbed by Han's advances and genuinely wants him to back off. The ESB scenes are great and I never feel that Han's doing anything more than consensual flirting. RD? Han's going to be using that wonderful, "Her mouth said no, but her eyes said yes!" defence when it gets to court... Of course none of this is helped by the fact that earlier in the drama, you get the Hoth Medibay smooch, which you suddenly realise is still going on thirty seconds later when Han tells them to come up for air. :s
Are you referring to Luke and Leia or Becca and Myself? Because me and Bec are just siblings, not twins. (She's OLD...er)
Figure it's worth digging up an old thread to link to this new fan film that takes the ESB Radio Drama audio for the Battle of Derra IV and actually visualizes it: It's quite surreal to see these events depicted in motion (albeit it unofficially) after so many decades (from a POV that was already decades after the ESB Radio Drama first aired). Understandably they couldn't squeeze in a Fel cameo scene or something, given the RD source material. But, still, very cool.
