I feel like there has to be something special about Finn. Why was he able to breakthrough a lifetime of brainwashing? I don't know if he's a Jedi, but there's something special about him. Something ignited in him and Kylo sensed it. He was put back through conditioning, and still managed to break through it. I really want him to be a jedi, but I don't know.

See some people are reading too much into the "my friend" line I think. They're friends NOW, but that doesn't mean that it couldn't grow into something more over time (they've only known each other for a few days after all). It doesn't automatically mean that it will become romantic either, just to be clear. Relationships are not static, they tend to grow/change/evolve over time and according to different circumstances/factors.

Case in point, Han and Leia couldn't stand each other for most of ANH. And we saw how that turned out.

As someone who is still unsure about a Finn and Rey romance, I don't think is as compelling as you think it is.

One, that scene from the book was cut from the movie. Maybe it was done because of time, maybe it was done because they wanted to go a different route. Regardless, they've made their job harder if they want a Rey-Poe romance. It'll basically have to be love at first sight now.

As for the casting & chemistry reads, it's entirely plausible that they want to keep us guessing. Why not have Boyega pursued by some other girl? Instead of going the Rey-Finn-Poe love triangle route (like Hunger agames), they're going to do something unexpected and make us wonder if Finn will choose Rey or this new girl.

Or she's perhaps and "old comrade" who also escaped the FO brainwashing. And she and Finn will spend quite a bit of time together in Episode VIII. Or she's a bounty hunter whom he has to work with, and there's a "can I really trust her or not" thing going on, etc. The point is, "chemistry read" doesn't automatically have to mean "romantic chemistry." Now COULD it be, certainly. But it could also be as simple as "do they play off of each other well or not?"

dope picture, just make Finn's Yellow, and Rey's half orange (and detachable, possibly half anakin's), and it'd be perfect!

Han Solo has a couple of moments in this movie where it feels like he's playing the "old man trying to babysit young, flirtatious whipper snappers". "Women can always tell when you're lying". Also, notice how he acts in Maz's bar right before Finn confesses to Rey. He's all "aw boy, here it goes".

    Yeah, it's growing pretty tired.

I saw a good post on the other forum that pretty much summed up how I feel about that :

Honestly, save your PUA stuff for your personal life. The movie isn't trying to comment on dating scenarios, it's just trying to set up that these characters have grown to support and trust one another. People saying "LOL, Finn got friendzoned bro!" in a non-ironic manner sound like 14 year old boys who just discovered Neil Strauss for the first time.

I've said it a million times, nothing is guaranteed in this. I could see them making Rey celibate, I could see her and Poe, I could even see her and Kylo in some strange scenario. They can do anything. But anyone looking at all of the cumulative evidence that we have thus far (From either the novel or the movie), and somehow managing to conclude that Finnrey is dead in the water, must have a difficult time picking up on cinematic cues.

I'd be happy to see it, but also I'd be stunned if Disney went ahead with a Finn/Rey relationship. Incidentally, there were nothing but crickets in my theater when Finn nervously asked Rey, "...gotta boyfriend... cute boyfriend?"

No love story is needed in this trilogy. Have Rey be the awesome hero she is without having to fall into the romance cliche.

I agree with that. I would not mind seeing either Finn/Rey or Finn/Poe, but I honestly lean more towards Finn/Poe, or no romance at all, and letting Rey stand on her own, without having to be attached to someone.

As far as what Luke did...I think the rule about not being overly attached/overly passionate would still be there but it would not extend to an inflexible "no romantic relationships at all" rule. And the Jedi were not celibate even in the PT, so Rey could still be his daughter.

This is the front-running ship in my estimation, so I suppose we Finnreys will just have to learn to accept that there's more criticism and challenges when you're at the top....[face_dancing]

My third screening chuckled at it. If you go on YouTube and look at Ridley/Boyega interviews some are even shipping the actors...lol.

Are people misconstruing friendship for romance or romance for friendship?
Rey and Finn don't even act like friends to me
I mean there's a big difference between how Poe and Finn act vs Rey and Finn
but that could just be the difference between male and female friendships

Do people actually wan't another love story? Luke was the main character and didn't need anyone for his trilogy.

Personally i just want to see more of Poe and Finns bromance, if it turns into a romance then so be it!

Love that pic! It helps that Bastila is one of my all time favorite characters not just in Star Wars, but fiction in general, and seeing a good guy version of the Darth Maul lightsaber is just too much fun!

I'm okay with a love story, as long as the characters are defined on their own terms and not just by their relationship. A well-told romance is always great. The reason so many hated the romance story in AOTC is not that we didn't want to root for those two, it was that it was so terribly written as to make the entire thing cringe-worthy.

Yes I want a love story and I think that we will get one. Who will be involved? Nobody can say for certain, but love has always been a major aspect of SW.

Han/Leia was wonderfully done in ESB. I hope they can recreate that magic here. Don't let the prequels dissuade you from accepting romance in this trilogy.

Poe and Finn isn't happening imo. Poe's wide-eyed enthusiasm was very appreciated in a surprisingly, somewhat dark movie. But their quick friendship was a plot device to introduce Finn to Leia.

Episode 8 has already been written. I'm guessing that Poe will remain as a slightly more utilized version of Wedge. They are gonna keep him in the cockpit.

I'm with you on Poe and Finn, but as far as "wanting" another love story...I won't be disappointed if there is not one. If there is, and it is well done...great.

This could be interesting, like if Luke is all, 'No. The Skywalker bloodline is cursed and must end.' And Rey's like, 'But daddy! I wuv heem!' I'm apparently on a silly mood.;)

Seriously, though, I can't imagine Luke being anti-love. Love seemed to be something he values not only for its own sake, but also for its power.

Really?? My audience laughed/giggled knowingly. The most reactive I've seen an audience in the past ten years has been for my two viewings of TFA, and for 4D movies. I've only seen TFA in 2D and IMAX 3D so far.

What the actual FORCE, Nanosoft! Are you freaking kidding me‽ I need to go buy this book right now! It's so amazing! People have been posting that novel like crazy to ship Rey-Poe because she says one time when she accidentally hugs him that 'after studying it, she decides she likes Poe's face.' What? And this was in there all the time? How is there even a comparison? Why was no one sharing this? Thank you so much! You just improved my Quality Of Life!;)

And with that, iBooks and farewell!

In reality the extend of Rey/Poe in the book is so incredibly insignificant compared to that of Finn/Rey that I'm having an extraordinary hard time figuring out how the Rey/Poe ship left the harbour, or even got built for that matter...

IF there is a discussion, it should be regarding Rey/Finn in a relationship. Anything other than that simply does, not, exist.

It is literally "I like your face" Rey/Poe vs "You came back! *water eyes* *15h hug*" and other 15+ moments for Rey/Finn...
    This is truly absurd.

As for Finn/Poe. As far as I've seen Finn is straight...
It is interesting to see people say Finn is infactuated with Rey and then say they would prefer him with Poe in the same breath.

Is it a cliche? Or is it as natural as eating and breathing?

I guess hitting people with things in action/adventure is a cliche.

No problem, here's a few more nuggets. One is from Maz's castle when he confesses to her. The other from Ren's interrogation.

"You must feel something" - Wish they left that in the movie....:)

    Even Kylo knows what's up....:D

    You lean toward no romance?

What a boring "epic" saga that would be.

Not for those of us who are interested in plot lines/plot points other than romance.
